honestly, I’ve given up on climbing the ladder the way Anet devised this system and the imbalance of professions. I’m just going to farm ranked for the Pip Rewards because at this point, it’s ludicrous trying to play in high tiered games expecting your allies to be competent or expecting me to read their minds. The population for PvP is small. You can’t implement grandiose systems and imbalance professions so only the high tiered players or top players (since so many of you want to cite them so much, that they can easily outmaneuver or counter them. Most of us don’t really care about trying to examine our screens for micro animations in the midst of a fight. We just want to enjoy a well balanced PvP game. But no. We can’t have that because Matchmaking is terrible, certain professions can just completely eradicate others, and the overall experience of PvP is just absolutely terrible. Now, every game I play even if I win doesn’t give me any satisfaction. Just pure resentment and despair for the system knowing that my next match has a 50/50 potential of screwing two wins worth of points.

At this point, I would greatly welcome new ideas for revolutionizing the PvP system. Like for example, an across the board 50% damage, sustain, duration reduction of all skills to encourage more teamplay rather than outrageous 1v1 slaughterfest concluded with cancerous word bashing and blaming. It’s getting tiring.

Once you embrace the fact that (in the scrub tiers that i am) you will get AFK’ers rage quitters, salty talkers and PVE farmers in literally every other match, you will learn to just go with the flow, farm the pips for ascended gear and don’t give a rat’s rear end about rating.

i think many many months ago i said ANET should literally increase the CDs of every skill by 10%, reduce the duration of all applied conditions and buffs by 10%, reduce the damage of all weapon skills by 10% and every healing skill by 10%. Then go from there.

Your typical average gamer -
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "

Yeah it’s all I’m doing now. I’ve completely given up on ranked being “competitive”. Unranked is far better at the moment for competitive matches.

Without cancerous word bashing and blaming? You literally just called all your teammates incompetent a few sentences up...

Not watching animations? How do you fight people, blind folded? In any game, PvP is about anticipating your opponents moves and reacting to them. GW2 allows you to take that a step further by allowing you to see these animations and react faster...

Also, welcome to PvP. You will win. You will lose. Its all part of the game. If you get that depressed over PvP then maybe you should stick to PvE and WvW. The game is about fun and if you don’t like what you are doing, then do something else. Sure, these seasons have ALOT of flaws, but there is no perfect game out there. Also, I prefer quicker fights. I don’t want a 18 minute arena fight like WoW. I’ll pass. I have things to do and ascended shards to farm.

The pool for PvP is extremely small. Especially in the platinum, where you get the same people every game. You can try to pay attention when you also have to find target that goes out/in stealth + chase the target that runs around + kite and dodge the target. I don’t have time for animations when I have to spend those miliseconds checking my cooldowns to make sure I have enough sustain and damage to take them down.

The only reason why I keep doing PvP is because it is the easiest and most focused farming out there that I don’t fall asleep after spending an hour farming SW or frankly, any other farm. That’s the only appeal from this season and frankly, I wish the rewards weren’t so good, so I don’t have to invest so much of my effort into this rancid, putrid, virulent PvP system.

P.S. Ascended Shards stop dropping after you complete Byzantium once. So that goes to show me that you haven’t played enough matches to fully comprehend my perspective. When you do, you will understand my feeling.

Key word in your whole post is fun, this season is not fun because the matchmaker has consistently stacked one side over the other. 4 plat on 1 side, 3 gold and 2 silver on the other. It’s like the matchmaker has no idea how to be fair and split these players up. All of the higher ranks will always be on one side, always. Loss streaks occur as frequently as they ever did because of the way games are stacked.

people should be happy if they eventually win 50% of the time, that’s balance, and that means dropping tiers until you hit your natural level. Prior to this season players were blocked from dropping tiers, now they are seeing their true skill level and not liking it/looking for excuses.

That link you provided is more relevant to you than the people in this thread, as it’s you who thinks you are better than them and they deserve to be down. And nothing you’ve said here is even relevant to the topic, they’re talking about game balance.

no actually what we are seeing is people blaming mmr, bad teams, its always ‘stacked’ somehow automatically to make you lose, balance etc. in effect losing always = something to blame. read Op post again for e.g.

to clarify what matters in PVP is great pvp content that where winning is actually not relevant, its the fight and having an opportunity to apply your skills that is fun. Take Eve as an example, where losing well is just as important as winning well.

edit taken link out since it offends.

When 80% of the games I play are huge blowouts one way or the other (loss by 200+ points), I’m blaming the system for putting two incompatible teams together.

Irrelevant. I’ve played about 70ish games and they are all the same. Again, you will lose some and you will win some. It won’t matter if I play 10,000 games. They will all be the same thing. The difference being that I have accepted that.

Also, I really don’t understand everyone’s concern over rating or tier. Who cares, as I mentioned earlier, PvP is flawed. One of the major issues is the way ArenaNet calculates scoring. For 1, the only time another person should affect your personal rating is IF you queue with them. Only allowing solo or duo queue in rating is such a horrible oversight. You want to score me based on the performance of 5 people? Then let me choose my 5 people. Otherwise, when I solo queue I want to be rated on my performance in that match.

If in a game I get 3-4 top stats metals, then I did my job and should get scored as such. Instead, I get scored based on the Guardian who went far, died and caused us to lose the game.

They either need to remove the cap and allow you to queue with 3-5 people or score you based on your personal performance. Only then will the rating matter. Anyone who has a high ranking and brags is really only able to say their RNGESUS is better than yours.

Yes, I’m fine with that. What I am not fine with is that in platinum, the pool is extremely small. I see the exact same people from yesterday today. They can’t climb the ladder because every win only grants you 8-12 points but every loss is 13-17. It’s ludicrous! That’s what I am complaining about. The population of PvP is not big enough to accommodate the system being implemented. A friend of mine with over 400 games climbed the ladder from Silver 3 to Platinum 2 but that was the highest he went. He dropped back down slowly bit by bit afterwards. It’s not fair for him and it’s not fair for the people trying to climb the ladder that you know Platinum is the highest you’ll be stuck at.

If you’re fine with getting top stats and blaming it on the other people who utilize tactics such as “Killing Beast” | Luring and Fighting Enemies off point (dying) but giving enough time for allies to capture points | harassing but never really committing. Those types of tactics you don’t get rewarded for top tiers. I’m fine with losing and winning some, what I am not fine with is going down in ratings because the population pool for platinum is very minimal and the players who can play more than 2 professions are extremely limited. So therefore, you’re pretty much stuck.

I kinda stopped reading the OP when there was a complaint that higher skilled players will generally win more. While there is a slight imbalance in professions and some are just shut out currently (rev comes to mind), the discrepancy between classes is fairly minimal. Each excel in their own way and most can duel one another when outplayed. Looking for those animations, tracking dodges, etc is key to winning. If you can’t be bothered to put effort into winning, then yes, you will likely lose. A lot. Perfect balance doesn’t mean that you can just lean back and mash your skills and come out ahead, that’s not how it works. Learn your rotations, learn your classes, learn the classes you are weak/strong against, and beat them. That’s all it takes.

The mode doesn’t need to be “revolutionized”. It just needs more people realizing that you can’t farm your way into legendary anymore. If you’re playing pvp for the rewards then you can do that at literally any rank without any backwards progress as with the previous seasons. If you’re playing PvP for the ranks and the titles, then you can’t just farm your way into that anymore. You actually do have to try, sorry to say.

If you did not read all of it, you should have because I am pointing out that the population in Platinum is extremely limited so almost every queue, you get the same people every game. Even at peak hours, it’s most likely the same type of people every game and if you already know you do not do well with those type of people, why should you be queued together with them? Especially if your playstyles are completely different that encourages disunity. Please try to read everything before you interject your opinion. I do try hard to win my games, but there’s a limit to how much I can do in a team to carry them and occasionally I will have bad games. Why would I want to keep playing with them? I want to play with new players with a fresh experience rather than play with the same type of people over and over and over.

When I say I “kinda stopped reading” what I mean is that I tossed the grain of salt given to everything I usually read online and replaced it with a dead-sea sized portion. I went and re-read the post and all I saw was anecdotes about how “I’m doing bad so the system is broken.”

This last point you made was nowhere in the OP so I’m assuming it developed somewhere else in the post, but I will address it all the same. The player pool is limited in this game mode. And that pool shrinks a lot more the higher you climb. You will inevitably encounter the same people more often, especially when you’re playing at roughly the same times as them and are winning/losing roughly as much as they are. If you’re encountering the same players and it’s giving you a hard time, try que dodging for a few minutes. Or take a break for a while. Or more drastically, change up your play time. The tried and true method for most anyone playing competitively is that if you’re on a losing streak, your best bet is to just take a step back for a little while. Maybe an hour, maybe a day. However long it takes you to un-tilt.

My personal feelings on the matter is that if I encounter people who can do well on their own but tend to screw over the team as a whole due to conflicting playstyles, try to use them to your advantage. Watch them on the minimap and rotate with them/around them. Be their +1 to make sure that they’re actually securing objectives or kills instead of suiciding into a 1v2 on far. This is a team game, and ideally everyone works together with perfect cohesion to pull out wins, but we do not live in an ideal world. We’re playing in an online game where egos are inflated 10 fold thanks to the veil of anonymity (seriously, you never see this level of salt in any other sport, especially by the least-skilled of the bunch). Sometimes in order to win you have to ditch your own ego to play around others. I’d be willing to bet people have done the same for you and me in the past. Is it perfect? No. Does it work? Absolutely.

Another thing worth noting is that when you have settled around your true-ranking (where you belong) you will not be able to hard carry without mechanically outplaying people consistently. But by being at your true-ranking this shouldn’t be possible. So honestly? Don’t try. You’ll only hold yourself to a higher standard than you can possibly achieve 100% of the time. It may still happen occasionally, but it’s not something to count on.

No, it just goes back to RNG. 50% of the time if you’re lucky, you can climb 3 wins and 1 loss, but skill only factors in about 25% of every game. It just discourages those that want to climb the ranks to bother with it when all you worry about is the uncertainty of whether or not you will be able to climb the ladder with the right team to win the game. Many people in this forum have proposed a hard MMR reset and that would be a great solution to majority of the existing problems currently in this PvP system. Let people climb starting from silver and gold to Platinum so that those that did invest the effort, would be able to feel satisfied. Another proposition that I think would be in conjunction to the PvP system is to make the amounts of point loss equal. I have never won anymore than 14 points but have loss more than 20 points. That needs to be fixed so that people who can climb, have the potential and ability to climb with a 60-70% winrate while those that have a 50% winrate stay within their skill range.
