PvP Weapon Strength
Why does it matter? The weapon strength can be anything arbitrary as long as it’s consistent across the board.
Thief
According to the Wiki the PvP weapons have the weapon strength of a level 80 exotic weapon. For a staff this is 985-1111 (average 1048). However, the damage displayed in the tooltip is consistently lower than in PvE – for every staff skill across all 4 professions.
Using the formula (damage displayed in tooltip) = (avg. weapon strength) * (skill coefficient) * power / 2600, I got an average weapon strength of about 1015.
Some more observations:
So it seems reasonable to assume that they use the same formula for the damage displayed in the tooltip for PvP and PvE. My power was the same in both cases (916), I did not use traits or other passive effects and because utility skills are not affected, both the armor rating (2600) and the skill coefficients seem to be the same in PvP and PvE. This only leaves weapon strength as an option.
My question now is whether the Wiki is wrong about the weapon strength being the same as for level 80 exotic weapons or if I’m missing something else.
