I’m an older player who would like to start getting into more PvP game play. I know that my twitch-based reflexes aren’t utterly fantastic, so I’m thinking that a ranged build would be more effective for me. I’m not looking to be the top of any boards, just to live long enough in a match to get better over time. I do have experience playing the game in PvE, but I know that’s a rather different environment. I’m open to pretty much any class, so I’d appreciate hearing suggestions on class/build combinations that might suite me. I appreciate the help.

Spirit Ranger or Grenade Engie go go go go gogo

A good ranged class would be, mesmer, elementalist, ranger and necro. I could say engineer as well, but since most of their skills are at 600 range untraited I wouldn’t say they have extremely much range except for nades.

I would advice not to play elementalist since i’ve heard a lot already from beginners how difficult they have it with this class. I wish I could say elementalist since it’s the class I main and I would love to see people play it more but then again, I don’t want you to have a first bad expierence in pvp either.

Mesmer sounds like a pretty solid choice, it’s seems they have a lot of build diversity lately, they can build pretty much however they want, condi, dps, and so on.. I think it’s a great class to start off with since you basicly have a lot of acces to what every class has as well, Stealth, invulnerability, blinks, and lots of more things I can’t think of right now.

Ranger is very passive, so if you are having diffculty with handling multiple things at the same time I believe this is the right choice for you. Most comon build would be spirit ranger, they have quite a lot of survivability and good dps at the same time.

Necro’s are the condi nukers, if you pull of a good fear combo you can literally 100-0 someone. They can also strip/convert boons from targets which is very effective against pretty much any class that can stack a lot of boons. I’ve seen a few necro’s run power specs as well pretty decently but would die pretty fast due the lack of toughness you would normaly get from a condi build.

I’m sure I could even go more into detail but it would get boring then, there are plently of guides as well on the forums so make sure to check those out.

Also, some good advice, when I started playing the game all I did was watch streams. It’s a good way to learn from other people who are more experienced at the game then yourself. There’s a sticky in the pvp discussion forums who are the more known streamers.
