Matchmaking is terrible and you would assume this means that the MMR calculations are terrible. Of course, we don’t know the MMR ratings because if we did we would be rolling on the floor laughing to hard to play.

I don’t care about leaderboards, mini llamas, or loot. I want match-ups with people who aren’t terrible. Random would be a huge improvement.i HUGE.

My last two games…. 4 people camping far on foefire against 2 without taking it while we don’t have either of the other points and . A 5v2 win on khylo.

Please show us MMR.

I think you would need to be able to run a proper test to “perfect” the system. The recent changes to matchmaking without resetting MMR are going to give skewed results. That is the utterly ridiculous part of it. After 25+ games my MMR hasn’t balanced out so how long is it going to take someone who plays less to hit the new equilibrium? How are they going to be able to analyze the data? I enjoy GW2 PvP enough to push through the 15% win rate and find my new MMR level or whatever is really going on if it had a reason. It just does not.

I agree the matchmaking is a problem. Experienced players are being put in games with total beginners. Lower rated players need to be matched to lower rated players. Higher rated players should likewise play together. Right now the system doesn’t seem to do that. That may require having pools of players based on MMR – high, medium and low for example and then when you do well in the lower pool you move up to medium, etc.

The other issue is the fact that total beginners are not penalized for losing. They lose over and over yet never lose points, and can grind up the leaderboard, while “higher” rated players lose points for losses. They system is skewed to favor the low low rated player. In other words, all the the lowest ranked players have to do is grind out games, since there is rarely a penalty to them for losing. Everyone else has to worry about taking a loss and losing points. All you have to do is look at the leaderboards to see there isn’t sufficient penalty to lower rated players for losing.

They really need to make your chance of losing points dependant on the systems rating of your chance of winning. So if you have a 10% chance to win, you have a 10% chance to take a loss in points if you lose. If you have a 60% chance to win, you have a 60% chance to take a loss in points if you lose. The way the system is now, the “higher” rated players (however that is calculated) always seem to lose points on a loss, while the lowest rated players have no real disincentive to lose — they just move on to grind out another game hoping to be carried.

That’d be ideal, but they should have more than enough data to bootstrap the proper parameters out. They just need to give someone who knows what they are doing access to that data and a couple weeks to clean it up.
