PvP for low levels
Oh yeah. I forgot about the lvl up scrolls. They drop too. Auto level up in PvE or wvw.
Which I assume is also why PVPers aren’t allowed to freely change their skins now without having to get charges now.
You apply skins to weapons and armor, after you apply it you can still keep them in your inventory and swap them for free.
Thats true, I didn’t think about that, but that now means I have to spend a lot of bank space or character space holding different item skins if I’m someone who likes to swap skins when I feel like it.
I liked having the huge storage I could put everything I had and could swap with whenever I wanted.
If the game had free skin changes like DCUO or LOTRO this wouldn’t be an issue, but why should we have to pay for it?
Dude, TBH with you, I think it’s fine. They don’t charge monthly subscription fee, and they need to make a living. Most of the thing in pvp is free already, except for cosmetics (and the new traits/amulets). You can’t have your cake and eat it too. For hardcore pvp players like us, we already have a good percentage of our wardrobe filled. Cosmetics is what keeping GW2 free for everyone.
I’m for one agree that they can charge a little small fee for cosmetics and keep the game free for most people.
I can have my cake and eat it too in DCUO and LOTRO, and those didn’t cost me a 60 dollar box fee too.
If this game wants to act like a F2P game then it should become one. I support Buy To Play MMOs like GW2 BECAUSE I wanted to avoid crap like this.
I’d like to emphasize this as well. Guild Wars 2 is a b2p game which currently has a worse wardrobe system than that of those 2 f2p games (even STO is better since you can customize your appearance for in game cash as often as you want to – and it’s a symbolic fee too). There’s no excuse in increasing the cost to maintain a specific look on low level characters (which are also used for PvP only as proven in this topic) other than greed.
Lol. If having to spend not even 5 mins transferring stuff between characters, is using you and you have to use a macro for 100 double clicks, I don’t know what to tell you.
You will not unlock all of them at once. You will not use more then 2 at a time. They are not essential to any and all build.
True, mists could use a banker.
But lamenting over the plight of switching to an alt and back which isn’t even 5 mins sounds silly IMO.
We are approaching the end of our discussion, I don’t think I can convince you and vice versa. Such is life.
1st of all let’s get one thing straight – I’m not lamenting over that, I’m saying that it’s irritating to do such things instead just one-click-buy-skill thing.
2nd: Yes I need a macro for even 20 double-clicks because it is EASIER to one click something and the way I see it anet just loves to make you sit in front of your pc continuously clicking through consumables (I’m looking at you essence of luck)
3rd: I know that you don’t need all of GM at one time but if you want to experiment with profession/build sooner or latter you will get them. Not to mention that most of pvpers have several lvl 2 char for gaming.
And finally I have 2 80s on my acc and several low lvls just for pvp purpose. My 80s are sitting on over 1k skillpoints that are literally useless for them. And my low lvls can’t even buy traits because they don’t have enough of sp… don’t you think that is slightly stupid?
Again, c**p like what?
sPvP haeventuallransmute charges on a silver platter.
PvE always needed a transmutation item. And also gives them out. You can also buy them. With in-game currency (post gem transfer)
You are ignoring how the new system, combined with the new PvP reward system works. Consistently.
Literally nothing has changed, save a bit of initial effort if you didn’t get enough charges from levels and for free. And that’s probably not even a days worth as, again,sPvP is relatively generous with charges.
I am sitting on 50+ charges after modifying 2 characters multiple times.
Anyway, that’s what, the 3rd time I said the same thing? I’m out unless something new pops up here.
EDIT
@Nenthil
So clicking is not an issue. Great.
As for the lvl2 chars, you can lvl them up via pvp drops too. You yourself said, eventually. Both level ups and sp are items that you can store for alts.
And no, I see noting wrong in having to put a little effort to unlck new stuff. GW1 had that too. Might be the crux of our issues.

Dont forget that when you logged in today you defaulted to your PvE outfit. What of those primarily PvP characters that you wanted to keep the PvP outfit for? Well bad luck you HAVE to use your charges if you want your previous outfit – PvE’ers dont have that problem.
I dont think its been mentioned that the sPvP playing field is now imbalanced due to the new unlocks. A pvper isnt going to have more than a couple dozen skill points across all accounts. You have the option to grind out 20 skill points through pvp, or if youre lucky enough to have reached level 80 – just go do the alternate quest in the level 80 zones to obtain the new traints.

I agree with you Sunshine, it’s much better than being forced to pay a monthly sub fee. It seems to me if this were the case it should just be said plainly because its a fine argument.
Sub fee? nah man, that ain’t gonna do.
I’m sitting on 150 charges and I don’t really wanna do anything with em cause I only play 3 of my 9 characters :/ and I keep getting more #Anetstopgivingawaysomanytransmutesyou’reruiningthegame.

It’s like writing to a blind man. >.<
Clicking IS an issue. Bags, essences, tournament rewards, food for daily, buying more obsidian shards and I can go on with the list. It isn’t issue for me thanks to the macro I have. Still I don’t understand how hard can it be to place “hold alt double/right click” mechanic for using/buying multiple things. We already have that with dividing stacks.
I get you point about new GM and skillpoints. I kind of agree with you that it shouldn’t be free. BUT this system is not without flaws. It should work in a way that you have easy access to resource on lower lvl, and as you progress through the game cost are getting higher. That way that resource won’t be worthless. Good example in game are WP costs, as you lvl up they get higher, so when you are low lvl you still can afford it. Since gold is account bound and skill points character bound, it seems illogical to force the same price (in skillpoints) on newly created characters.
As for transmutation charges, I agree that it is fairly easy to get them and I accepted the fact that I will need to pay for transmutation in pvp. It is ok.
What is wrong with this system is that PvP players need to pay for something they DON’T want. They had their customised look in PvP and now they need to “pay” to get it back.
I won’t even mention weapon swap between PvE and PvP…
All in all I think merging PvE/PvP equipment was a bad idea. It would be better with just introducing wardrobe feature and leaving separate equipment modes for PvP and PvE. That way PvE players would have to pay do get their looks to PvP and vice versa.

Translation vent until you eventually realise it is futile and cough up them gems
Hah. You need better translation software.
I think it’s working just fine.

I just cannot see this as an argument against… Well anything. Not to mention you do not do all of those at once. Maybe a double click is just a natural motion for me. Or I do not care. But if you indeed want to use this as an example of how sPvP was pveized, I can’t really say anything else.

Not paying attention. PvP skill points and level ups are drops. Transferable drops. They serve exactly the purpose you describe. I have a stack of them myself for Mt lowboe PvP char.

No. You. Won’t. Have. To. Spend. A. Dime. On. Charges.
At worse, you will have to play an hour or two to get a few rewards. Or save gold, which is now the primary monetary reward for PvP for the 150 gems for a 5 pack.
What is wrong with this system is that PvP players need to pay for something they DON’T want. They had their customised look in PvP and now they need to “pay” to get it back.
No. They. Won’t.
See above.

Nope.
PvP weapons, like all other PvP gear and buids have their own window now. Its independent from the hero panel. They have their own slots in the PvP panel and everything.
Not to mention we are talking about pure PvP players, unless I missed something.
You haven’t actually played post patch, have you?

That’s exactly how it works. You just use your PvE gear as a starting point. That’s why PvP showers you with transmutipn charges. So does PvE, all old tokens are converted to charges too.
Could you at least tell us WHY you did this change? It seems so pointless.
To bring PvP in line with how the rest of the game works.
I’m willing to bet you that my lvl 2 characters have more hours played on them than a majority the lvl 80 characters in pve. I am a god in PvP. What you need to understand Justin, is that these PvE players are mere peasants in our elitist sPvP world. How can they bow down to my magnificence if I’m naked from from dropping all of my pve starter gear on launch day a year and a half ago due to wanting to troll lions arch??

I support this message.
I would also like to add that; my face…it has been slapped.

That was just a digression to express how annoying it is to multiclick (especialy when you have to repeat it often or do it once for longer period of time). Maybe it’s just me but when I think about clicking through multiples objects I get irritated.

And you are forgetting about new players. How they are suppose to get those acc bound items to fully benefit from PvP mode in game? 20 skill points for new player is too much. Moreover I myself after playing pvp on my char have like 60 scrolls and maybe 10 tomes. It’s true I’m not a hardcore PvP player but still I enjoy playing different professions from time to time. With current skillpoint awarding items I can’t even buy all GM traits on my lvl 2 necro. I’m ok with it but I can understand frustration that other players display.

I don’t think you understand what I meant. Paying means giving something valuable for something else. In this case your currency is a “transmutation charge” (let’s call it TC for the sake of this conversation). So yes, you are “paying” with TC. If we go with your line of thinking then you are not paying/buying things on trading post, because gold is just some pixels on your screen for which you never paid a dime from your real money (assuming that you never bought gems and exchange them to gold).
No. They. Won’t.

I went back online to double check that. True, PvP weapons have their own slots and sigils, but that was not the case. My point was if you play in PvE with staff (let’s say you’re an ele) and you go to PvP you have to go to your equipment and manually switch to let’s say scepter/dagger. If you go out you have to again switch to staff, which is (you guessed!) annoying (not to mention that you will have to put it in your bags or buy it every time you go to mists). It worked great and now they blew it.
That’s exactly how it works. You just use your PvE gear as a starting point. That’s why PvP showers you with transmutation charges. So does PvE, all old tokens are converted to charges too.
So what you are trying to tell me is you didn’t get a single transmutation charge from PvE? None from converting all that transmutation crystals and stones that were laying useless in your bank (because you got them from daily)?
You did get some from PvE? Great and did you have to “pay” (with TC) to get back to your PvE look after patch? Nope? Great! So why do you want players to “pay” (with TC) to get back to their look from before patch in PvP?
Let’s stop the quote wars; if you really want to duke it out, take it to Private Messages.
To stay on topic, I feel like this was a gross oversight on ANet’s part and they should just own up to it instead of saying “Oh, you’ll be able to equip shoulders eventually”.
I like how there are so many complaints yet I’ve seen more s/tPvPers since the patch… even people from my PvE guild is playing s/tPvP. :P

These people came back to gw2 see if the first new game type is good.. I am one of those people.
Chest, leg, and boot are used. You’re fine without a helmet, shoulders, or gloves.
Just as a reminder: anyone can recieve a full set (head, shoulders, coat, gloves, legs, boots) of armor and all weapons at level 1 from the “Equipment Trader” in their Eternal Battlegrounds spawn area for less than 3,000 Karma.
WvW to the rescue!
Chest, leg, and boot are used. You’re fine without a helmet, shoulders, or gloves.
And if someone wants helmet shoulders and gloves?
I believe shoulders are the only slots gated by level but I could be wrong. In any case, just play some PvP and your character will be high enough soon.
As a part-time black lion key farmer, I feel I should correct this.
At level 1, players have access to Chest, Shoulders, Gloves, Boots and any weapon depending on their class. Those that pre-ordered have access to one soul-bound ring(hero’s band) that grants +2 to stats and has an upgrade slot. Players that have taken advantage of a certain LS updates have access to One Accessory.
Various classes have access to head or shoulders, but both for most are slot-gated until levels 10 and 20 respectively. Because of this, there is no No-Level whites that BL key farmers can take advantage of for extra stats. This lack of No-Level or level 1 head/shoulder gear is the reason OP made this thread.
People who took advantage of the free Polla that was given away in the gemstore have an accessory that grants plus 1 to 4 stats and has an upgrade slot.
Classes that have head slot items as a choice at level 1/character creation:
Elementalist
Guardian
Warrior
Thief
Mesmer
Necromancer
Engineer
Classes that have shoulder slot items as a choice at level 1/character creation:
Warrior
Guardian
One class has access to back slot items as well.
Engineer.
AND finally, I just realized that the Backpack Straps(come from things like Tiger Charr Backpack Set) are account-bound and have an upgrade slot. They allow for any skin to be applied and I’m unsure as to what upgrades can go inside them. Most likely it will be no-level upgrades.

Good! So you don’t become any stronger from wearing the latter items.
I think this is a good idea; It gives progression to new players and I think that will nurture the game. I know I’ll enjoy it.
If anyone’s upset about this, I personally believe that you probably will change your mind when you’re used to this change =)

Gw2 is a masterpiece at it’s foundation. Content-wise however…
So….I was playing around testing builds on my lvl 2 ranger in the pvp lobby against the class masters. Since it was a new toon, I only had the armor of a lvl 2. I was using the current meta of spirit ranger…~2.2k armor…and the engi, in what I hope was a double crit, hits me for 17.2k total from a single jump shot. DEAD ME. I have reported this with screen shots of my armor and the hit readout to anet. Unfortunately, I did not screen shot it for this forum. You’ll just have to believe me I guess. But what I then did is go to the highest armor rating I can think to achieve on a ranger…3.4k…and try again. The engi then hit me for 12.1k with a jump shot.
Either the armor, i.e. shoulders, headgear, gloves, not being present made a HUGE difference. Or Jump Shot is WAAAAAAYYYYY WAAAAYYYYY over-powered. 17K? For real?
