PvP monetization
No thanks, that’d be p2w, and what we have right now is already pretty much close to p2w.

You don’t say.
It’s already p2w. Don’t have an expansion? You’re meat now for the people who buy an expansion, but suck so hard, they can only put their face on keyboard and roll it around. That’s why they made PvP open to f2ps, now f2ps serve as filling to sate the hunger of the people who bought HoT but have absolutely no capability of PvPing.

Expansion is b2p not p2w.
Also buying HoT doesn’t make you a scrub. I can’t even begin to fathom how warped your mind has to be for you come to that conclusion.

Oh, look. The daily “P2W” thread.
It’s an MMO, kids, not a MOBA. Be thankful you don’t have a subscription to pay, huh? If you’ve played 4 months worth of Guild Wars 2 over its span of existence, the price of HoT is already justified at the typical subscription rate of $15 a month.
I don’t know why I try, though. Logic has no place here.
I’m not saying everyone who has HoT is a scrub, I’m just saying scrubs with HoT are given so much power, that it overwhelms their scrubness so they wouldn’t just file a complaint and get a refund.

That’s a fallacy, giving scrubs more power to compensate only works if nobody else is given said power. The majority of players have HoT which means the majority of players those scrubs are playing against have access to that “power,” thus preventing said “power” from giving said scrub a advantage.
But really, I don’t think you’re fighting scrubs. I think you do what the majority of the population does when they die and look for a scapegoat. In this case elite specs.

name one meta build that does not include an elite spec in their build.

This game is Buy to Play…..get that through your heads. The core game for free is for players to try to see if they like it, if they like it they can buy it period. That is the entire purpose of the core game being available for free.
People who come up with “pay to win” are not using their brain, this is not some freemium game.
For people who paid for the core game and refuse to upgrade, metabattles still has tons of builds that don’t require the elite specs that can be played at most MMRs and do fine.

Glad to hear its ok to be p2w because this is an mmo and not a moba, I like your logic.

So all xpacs are p2w then?
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
PvP with current balance is P2W.
Yes, most people fork out the money for it, but currently anyone with the PAID expansion has a significant PvP advantage over those who do not own the expansion (who may have already paid their money earlier in the dev cycle). This is the definition of P2W.
Is there any way for the expansion to not be P2W? Not without nerfing EVERY elite spec into the ground. Even if one elite spec is still meta-worthy (out of 9), it gives players with the expac an advantage over those without.
There is one other solution-Give all PvP players access to elites for PvP only. The risk here is that the P2W accusation then shifts to WvW, and then to PvE, but at least in the most directly competitive arena it becomes an even footing.
If I don’t buy food to eat, I will starve and forfeit every future competition through having become deceased. Life in any currency-based society is “P2W”.
Anything you buy that gives you an advantage and more than like to win over those who didn’t buy is the very definition of pay to win regardless of what game it is.
GW2 is no longer b2p because it is now f2p. So if you want to win over the f2p crowd, you need to buy HoT.
It is a rather valid perception. Anyone who doesn’t sees this is simply turning a blind eye.
Full set of 5 unique skills for both dual-wield weapon sets: P/P and D/D – Make it happen
PvE – DD/CS/AC – If that didn’t work, roll a Reaper or Revenant.

But its ok because this is an mmo not a moba, and the new specs are “elite” that’s why they are more powerful.
The question is what is beyond elite? Its very important to think about because the most efficient way to monetize spvp is to release progressively more powerful specs/classes.
The only trouble is the HoT classes jumped up so far from the older classes/specs that there seems to be little leeway to increase power further in future. I mean after elite what is there? Demi-god specs?
