PvP rank new chars
I am a new player and this info disappoints
I’m pretty sure they factor in which class you play. It is generally expected that you should pick up a new class after your first one much faster than if you just started. Back when I was first learning all the classes, I would go practice on the training dummies till I had several rotations. Going in head first is gonna take way longer than if you just be patient and learn all the skills well. You need to know what the skills do before you learn when to use them.
extra dodges, real stability, mobility skills,
burst skills, sustain, or good support. GG ANET.

It was confirmed by a dev couple days ago that the current matchmaking system does not take into account the class you play, as you can switch your class once the game has started.
Anyways, I completely agree with this post. It is extremely annoying and discouraging to learn a new class for me as I keep on getting paired up with players who I see on regular basis when I’m on my main, and who have been playing one class/spec for god knows how long.
If a player spends 6 months in PvP playing on one character and mastering the dynamics of that play style then one day they want to try a new class it appears the matchmaking algorithm pairs them with other players based on their rank/stats played on their main. How realistically can said player get better on another class? It makes no senses. I think this just encourages players to create multiple free accounts.
PvP rank is not your level at the bottom of the screen, its how many games you win vs how many you loose. Other competitive game like LoL don’t lower your rank in ranked queue simply because you aren’t playing on your main.

Agree with op. I’ve resorted to hotjoins and unranked queue to test new characters, completely disregarding unranked mmr.
Guess you just gotta deal with it by making ranked queue your mode for ‘serious play’.

i believe (though i may be wrong) that when the dev told us a few days back that class mmr isnt in effect they said it is calculated, just not used int he mmr calculation for matchmaking currently as players can switch characters with no penalties currently, it may however become a factor once dishonour is re-enabled with leagues
Even if you cannot handle the class to well you know how to counter the other classes, which skills to dodge, how to rotate, etc. To get your char on a level to compete with these things, you just need a few hotjoin matches.
Atm there is a charbound mmr calculated but not used in matchmaking. I honestly prefer it this way. If I go to a new class and have to play with all those new players, nah, i dont even want to think about it. Also it is esier to compare my personal skills on diffrerent classes, like it is. Also i would miss the option to relog after getting your team. I dont want a 3 thief pug team. xD
And you can’t just go test builds in hot join where there’s no matchmaking because….?
