PvP with latency
Also i have no clue about how the new elite profession and their mechanics interact with latency coz there are no threads i could find when i did a bit of a research on that. any explanation on that would also be greatly appreciated
Thank you again
Necro/Reaper MM build is very forgiving and your minions will continue to fight while you’re dealing with lag. Check out the old build on metabattle and adjust as necessary. You can also do celestial condi bomb engi/scrapper.
Basically, you want to go for a tanky condi build with either a lot of area damage or some kind of AI support if you have high latency. There’s a good chance you won’t be dodging eviscerates with 190ms ping, so you have to be built around face tanking high damage skills. Conditions and AI keep doing damage once you land them so you don’t have to stay on target.
ty for the response @Kharr.
So what would u recommend the most in terms of multiple builds (condi / moderately tanky builds) in regards to a whole class (class mechanics) , necro ? engi ? ranger ? considering the new specialisation too.
warrior is kinda OK too, double endure pain helps. Also bunker guard/settler shoutbow

Condi necro is REALLY forgiving too IMO, perma weakness on the enemy(plus toughness fro rabid) allows you to eat burst and still come out relatively OK, y personal experience at least :p

I don’t consider 150-200ms latency to be too bad. On the other hand, 300ms (which is what I used to have as a european expat in NA before I moved my account) is quite awful. You can still play more tanky builds. For example, I had no problem with bunker guard or rabid mesmer.
So which professions have more bunker / condition damage variations, as i would prefer to pick a profession that i have at least few builds to swap, because if the meta changes i shouldn’t be sitting out as i was over relying on that one specific build.
Strictly from a competitive pvp perspective.
Thank you for the all answers everybody. @MAN @Silverkey.
D/D Elementalist works with higher latency because its heavily rotation based and has very good sustain.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
I am from oceanic with 200 ping….. stay away from theif/melee classes in general.
As an oceanic PvPer who averages around 200-250 ping you will find condition builds or bunkery specs easier and less reaction dependant.
I’n saying that if im 200 ping or under ill play thief/mesmer and while noticable still, the ping isn’t a huge issue

I have latency troubles and D/D ele is almost unplayable for me.
The blast on Burning Speed goes off behind you instead of where you land so you can never land it and Ride the Lightning has awful rubber banding issues with high latency. These two skills are crucial to your ability to use this set, so you’re far less effective.
Staff ele works fine however. You get similar sustain but less dueling power.
i live in NZ & my ping varries from 200-5000. anything under 400 is playable imo, but you really want 250 or below.
currently a Boyfriend main :P

I play from SEA region with 300 ping. Its doable with ranged class but not anything in melee unless your opponent have roughly same ping. Build with lots of skill that need target will be hard to use too. Because your targeting dont update with your client and you will lose a lot of target with manual targeting.

That sounds like a problem of spikes as well as high latency. I’m in Aust. and play with a ping of 300 or so, when the latency is consistently at 300 then D/D ele is fine. But yeah staff ele would also be a good choice as would any ranged class.

After considering your valuable suggestions and read a lot of threads i concluded that it would be best to play one of the 3 profs, strictly based on the fact that Condi damage is better to play with latency , but the arguments against them are as listed below :-
1. Engineer (Pulling of their combos will be hard, and alot of ground targetting skills).
2. Ranger (Fewer Condi builds compared to the other 2).
3. Necro (Since they got only 2 dodges , dodging becomes very important, and with latency is challenging to time dodges).
Thank you guys again for all the responses
based on personal observation, as long as it’s <300 you should be OK on any classes. If you’re on a daredevil when dodging is a lot more sensitive, I would say <200 is the right threshold. once it gets >300, any classes will become a problem, especially the one that revolves around instant activation and movements like dodging or blinking, etc.
None.
The margin you have to react to your oponents moves is too small, it’s frustrating and infuriating when you predict an ability, see it, dodge it and get hit mid dodge anyways because of your latency.
