I just dont get this pvp community,

In a match we are winning, I been holding home hole game.
Random engineer with 1/2 my points start trash talking me.
Than i find out the 4 in my team are all grouped in TS
He just goes on and on after in whispers in how bad i am and how they are all laughing at me….

Again, 1/2 my points, watched him die off points numerous times, on my team, AND WE WERE WINNING.

Anet really need to make better report system and more strict.

This is just one example…. I know from others it happens all the time.

Worse part is how block works, they cant see your chat, but they can continue to whisper you till you block them….

You really shouldn’t put that much stock in points in PvP, they are an unreliable indicator of performance. I’m not saying this guy was in the right, but certain roles don’t always end up with a ton of points. If you’re roaming, you’re probably not sticking around for caps so that can be a major loss in points. You can also tap a foe with a few autos and get kill credit.

Honestly, the point system should probably be dropped. It’s like Kill/Death ratios in objective-based FPS, they might indicate skill or it might mean that the guy focused more on killing than the actual objective and the guy who went 5/10 but completed multiple objectives actually won the game.

If you were simply sitting close all match without ever rotating his irritation was completely understandable. Also, score means nothing. You can easily get 200+ score every match by simply being a kitten and sitting in caps being capped by someone else and just running between fights tagging players, grabbing objectives like beasts and ferocity buffs without actually helping.

If you play non-ranked pvp and you give it your best (regardless of how good you actually are), just ignore the flamers. If necessary, report them. If you pvp with random players, stuff like that is bound to happen, GW2 PvP is nothing special – ppl just like to blame other ppl to make themselves feel better.

Yes, point mean nothing and sitting at homepoint when no1’s actually attacking it is useless, but there are ways of telling ppl this without insulting them and where you actually help them to get better.

Meh, might as well just block them. It’s not worth entertaining such a childish conversation as you described. IF these players were any good they’d try to have an adult conversation on the subject. Besides that “Rotating” is probably the most kittenized term in PvP. There is no one single right way to do it.

Camping home and thinking the “points” matter? Yeah I would flame you too.

If you camped home all game and still you have better score than the other guys, then you did a great job defending that spot.
Ignore the people who just want to rage. Have fun.

I was staying home because 2 thieves on their team kept trying for it.
The guy fighting/losing near spawn, who was on MY team decided to rage, and talk trash.
After match he decides to whisper me saying how all 4 of other team mates were in ts talking kitten about me.

I was unable to respond do to him blocking me before he /w trash talk.
This was all for no reason….
We won..he was on my team….I played the map.

Solo queue used to filter and shut up these kinds of teams in VOIP talking trash to solo pugs.

Sure the clowns liked to say solo ranked did not matter but they know it did… the best players where top in both team and solo ladder…. the carried players never could climb solo ladder.

You could climb higher then them in one ladder that was about individual skill and ability to adapt based on in game observations.

Its alright, the pvp community is easily worse then most MOBAs at this point. Dont take anything anyone says to heart, in fact turn off all chats in pvp.
Several people in HotM map chat admitted to waiting for people to leave bad games just so they could troll.

I’m only going to address this because it’s the root of a major problem in PvP. New players STILL think that points matter in a match. They’ll sometimes double/triple stand on points to boost their scores.

Points. Do. Not. Matter. If you kill someone on far with your teammate, 1 of you stays to cap the point and 1 of you goes back to mid/help a teammate/etc. Do NOT both cap the point after killing the enemy. It’s a waste of time and you’re only hurting your team. Please… Anet… take the point system out for good.

There is a good reason that SPVP has such abysmal numbers. It’s most likely the least active aspect of the entire game. The community is toxic, the matchmaking is horrible, and just about everything in SPVP is terrible. Literally, I really don’t think you can possibly create a worse system even if you tried to.

I’ll have to try turning chat off completely. I’m hoping the lower my win percentage gets, the better chance I’ll have with actually being matched against people my skill level. Though I’m beginning to think there isn’t anyone my skill level.

Camping home is never a good idea. A better option for you would have been to take the role of a temporary watcher to spot crossers and see where the players are going next and telling your team where they are heading and make a decision from that, it’s much better than camping home. If you camp home you’re a creating a 4-5 somewhere else on the map. It’s obvious your team mate kept dying they were probably angry dealing with a 4v5. Also points don’t matter they don’t say nothing. Anyways the whole point is he did bad raging in chat and saying things he wasnt suppose to regardless of what the team did.

If 4 idiots say 2+2=7 do you start to see the error of your ways, or are they just four idiots?

Same goes for your case. Rather then being a meta sheep, you used your own nogging and defended home ensuring constant stream of points for your team.

By logic your effort alone was equal to their combined, as no matter how or why you held a capture point and i assume you won the game by holding 2/3 points most of the time. 50% of that success was you.

If majority was always right, we’d live in a beautiful world that would make paradise look like a shoddy shack, since we live in democracy. But if majority was stupid then we’d…ah…riiiiiight.

Maybe you should have given him a few minutes of burn in retaliation for that poison.

Thought I posted on this one, but I guess not… sort of hard to keep track with all the threads of the same subject that are created. Anyways, it’s been reported on along with at least 15 other threads with the same subject and context. Ideas on fixing this have been submitted, just on a wait and see type of thing.

pro tip: personal score is useless (except in the event of a draw), it is by no means an indicator of your performance in game. do not use it to try to measure your skill against to others. you get considerably more personal score points for killing a person and than capping (35) a point than you would get if you forced a decap on a point and than killed the person defending it (25). in this case better performance equals less personal score.

What if capping only awarded the first person to stand on it? Or what if points capped faster with more people? (Probably not last one since it would encourage zergfests.) Kinda new, so just curious and trying to learn.

The community is quite bad in PvP but it is certainly making its way to LoL.

This game PvP community isn’t that bad at all.

Just because someone had a fit every 10 rounds or so, that doesn’t mean you have to rush to the boards to complain.

I’d say I’ve been in more nice PvP lobbies than mean ones, though I acknowledge that’s anecdotal and not necessarily indicative of a larger trend. However, it’s hard to make any easy and unbiased measurements about the community from my vantage point. Given that, I can only give feedback based on my personal experience alone. As such, I’d rank levels of toxicity from least to most something like this:

WvW<PvE when things are going well<PvP<Forums<PvE when things aren’t going well

WvW being people are helpful, talkative, work together and even do things like say goodnight. PvE not going well being a lot of trash talk, abandoning at random, racist epithet and generally petty and spiteful behaviour.

Is it safe to assume the majority of PvE toxicity comes from dungeons? I’ve played much less dungeons than PvP matches, but saw wayy more dungeon leavers, seems like they want a perfect metarun speedclear 5k+AP or else..

This is indeed the problem. You can’t argue with anyone, you get trolled and spamed on ignore.
Most of the time the match isn’t going well, i try to put out strategies or explain what to do/not do, but people aren’t reading it, and are starting to complain when i say something for the 3rd time.

I played 8k hero battles matchs in GW1, about 6k games here, and i’m getting trolled by people who have no idea how to play on a capture point map. I just wish there was an indicator about the number of games played( yes i know, skill != number of games played, but it still shows experience) , maybe people would listen then..

I totally understand why he was mad. If you don’t, you should consider get more experience in rotations.

Well Im not going to go into trashing the OP over their idea of points, the main point of the thread is the trash talk in PvP.

Which is a problem. Though I have to say, the longer my block list gets the more I enjoy PvP.

If you knew they had people constantly pushing home you did the right thing. Some people are just jerks, but my experience is they are few and far between. Most of my glhf are met with polite responses and it’s pretty rare I see someone acting like that.

Given the fact we only have your biased side of the match, we can’t make any meaningful interpretation of what/how you were doing was right or wrong. Suffice to say that a lot of these issues arise since guild wars has no meaningful resource on how to properly play pvp and a lot of noobs fall into simple traps when matches are supposed to be evolving and usually you aren’t supposed to just sit at a node. (not saying you did this as again we don’t have enough information).

League of Legends has seen a vast rise in skill level, in part due to the prize pools, but mostly due to the fact that Riot is actively pushing the competitive aspect and this leads to high quality streams one can watch to get better. Meanwhile Anet over here is twiddling their thumbs with the living story pve stuff while the PvP barely “exists” on life support.

That’s the state of socially acceptable behavior in pvp nowadays. Sad, right? No reason to be brought down to that level though, so just keep calm and carry on.

Maybe this could be the reason why he was upset – you didnt help him out and your assistance could have prevented your team from being outnumbered for a while due to spawn and the other team from gaining 5 points. He may have died from intentionally fighting the opponents before they get to your point.

Hard to tell. But sure, there are toxic players in the game.

if i did it on my thief i probably would spend entire game being dead O_O
