Pvp With Combat Mod
I use combat mode. You need to bind keys to next/previous target to deal with the situation you describe. However you still suffer with targeting when facing, say, a Minion Master, but I feel my quick ground targeting and fast camera movement out weigh that.
I also am not our teams caller for team fights so I am not worried about really moving through targets.

1. The legality of this mod is rather debateable, and I don’t recall seeing a definite Anet response on it.
2. No pvper worth the name would use combat mod. It is far too restrictive in targeting and mobility options.
Mods don’t make you better. They just make things simpler, but in the long run they hurt you more then they help you.

They have stated they have never banned a player for using Combat mode, and that macros that do not bind multiple keystrokes to a single action are ok.
Also, while targeting does take a hit, mobility I believe is much higher with combat mode than without it. I no longer need to click to move camera which allows me to bind a different thing to that button and my movement is unhindered by locking the screen movement to the mouse.

I dont understand how you would have “more camera movement” as compared to someone who holds their right click key at all times. I have a guildmate that is trying to enter competitive Tpvping and when i spectate him on a regular basis, I see alot of tunnel visioning going on (albeit he’s not the best pvper) but I believe part of that is attributed to him using combat mode. As for ground targetting, it’s as easy as turning on fast cast.
Ground targeting with combat mode is horrific. Yes, it targets to the center of the screen, so what if you want to drop a ground target NOT in the center of your screen, while moving to the left? You’ll be kitten out of luck. Combat mod vastly decreases your mobility and visual options for playing the game.

I agree with the first statement, but not the second.
Gameplay mods usually seek to improve upond the default (vanilla) system in place, without giving an advantage. More often than not they seek to bridge the gap between player and system, because not all default systems work well with all the players. In some instances, mods will “break” the system by incorporating macros and such, putting less intended burden on the players brain, allowing them to focus on other things. These are the mods that gives people that icky feeling about mods in general.
This seems like a definite improvement on the combat system, but only to those it “clicks” with. I have not used it myself.
Obivously aesthetic mods do nothing but enhance (tweak) the visuals to suit the user’s tastes, so theres that.

isn’t the definition of a macro a “script that binds multiple keystrokes to a single button”?
I use combat mod mainly because as I writer I’m susceptible to RSI and not having to constantly right click really helps.
Yes, targeting is somewhat problematic but like others I find the advantages outweigh the disadvantages.
To improve targeting with combat mod, I:
1. Select “promote target” so I just have to target once and never again
2. Have auto target select on so if a thief comes out of stealth and he’s the only one around I don’t have to manually target
3. Have bound a “target deselect” option so if I accidentally target a mesmer clone I can quickly retarget the real one
4. Practice targeting with the mouse – you just need to get the real guy in the cross hairs
5. I also have a key bound for tabbing whenever appropriate.
The worst limitation i’ve experienced with this mod is really the auto-targetting restriction, case in point is being in combat and wanting to cast a dash ability away from my target. For example, i play a ranger, if i want to swoop or dart away or just to move around really, he will always target someone. Just FYI my #1 skill is tied to my left click, so auto-targetting does make sense for everything else but this particular situation of dashing away with an ability.
The selecting thing: my wheel up targets the closest enemy, while wheel down targets next enemy, as for the previous enemy function i get by not using it at all.
