This dueling issue is getting absurd. Half of the custom arenas exist as dueling servers. Its completely holding back what custom arenas can and should become.

Allow dueling in a specific area of hotm. Sidelines spectators can watch but no passive buffs can apply to duelers.

Allow people to join hot joins from the pvp menu. Make filters better. Right now they are not the most intuitive.

I think longterm, this wont help. You only need so many dueling arenas. Custom arenas should be like servers in tf2 or cs. Its a place to play and socialize. People have favorites. The farthe we move away from the quiet, non-communicating hotjoin with the same rotation, the more fun spvp will be and more players will buy custom arenas.

To add to this, there needs to be at least two more game modes for casual spvp play to draw people in.

i thoroughly enjoy seeing hundreds of empty custom servers that people paid for when all the free servers are still full every day.

A lot of the custom servers in CS are run by either clans, websites, companies or communities and allow for more customization than the vanilla game with the addition of mods and plugins. Custom Arenas in GW2? I don’t really see the draw, might as well let them do what they want with the server they payed for.

Dueling is nothing more than who has picked a profession with the better traits and utilities. Notice how the word ‘skill’ got left out of this statement.

There is professions entirely optimised for the 1 vs 1 engagement with baked in skills that either display no skill and are fire and forget, or are a one button multi-tool.

The notion that skill cast bars were removed to encourage a player to pay more attention to the screen is a questionable move when many professions can display a variety of animations that cloak what they are about to do next. Not to mention Asuran models with dark skin tone, black armour and dark weapon is now painfully difficult to truly visually identify what it is they’re doing.

It is the prerogative of the purchaser of the CA to set it up for duels if they want, but the notion of true dueling based on skill, rather than inputting specific short macro’s is a concept that will never truly take off in gw2.

Sure players that pay for arenas can do what they want. I’m just saying there’s a pocket of demand out there for dueling arenas when that should be provided entirely by heart of the mists. You shouldn’t have to go in a game just to duel.

Also dueling is great for testing builds, even if it’s NOT a dueling build. It’s also great practice against certain classes.

If dueling was in the game, do you think the people who own those ‘dueling servers’ would have a need to buy them to use with their friends in the first place? Maybe ‘Yes’ for the public appeal, but more likely ‘No’ is my guess.

Either way, would that mean more Custom Arenas not centered around dueling, quite unlikely, there would still need to be more appeal for them other than simply ‘not being a dueling server’.
