Q:
Hello everyone,
With Season 2 now fully on, I had the occasion to play a couple of game (50 -60) that I’ve all lost pretty much (SoloQ).
I read a lot about the subject, and I understand now that the matchmaking is made so low MMR player are put together VS high MMR player so the high MMR players can move up the ladder faster, which is fair (even tho frustrating) to some level.
I don’t consider myself Legendary, but I also know that I’m not bad (based on my survability and my capacity to win most of the 1v1, 2v2 I encounter or at least sustain up until a teammate come, if they come) but I’m often matched with people with no survability which I often see struggling in 1v1 or 2v2. But that’s okay, and I’m aware I make mistake too.
The point is : If I keep losing match, will it affect my MMR badly (does losing match lower the MMR?) thus making me enter the loop of
1. Lose match
2. Lower MMR.
3. Paired with worse players
4.Lose match.
5. Lower MMR.
6. Paired with worser players.
etc
Making it basically impossible to get to out of this? I mean, even if I was the best player in the world, being matched with 4 players that are lower to my level makes the winning an hard process. PvP is a team thing after all. Same goes if I’m paired with players of equal levels VS Legendary-like players. Can’t win.
Also, when I pre-made with my guildies (which are more of my level) (which I did only once because of conflictual schedule) I went on a so refreshingly rare win streak. Which further my thought that I’m not the problem in the SoloQ mess (at least not the biggest part of the problem).
Extra Question : I read that somewhere but I just want to make sure the MMR for Ranked and Unranked are completly independant? I had a good win rate in Unranked and I don’t want to scrap my MMR because of all those defeat in Ranked.

Yes. The only way out seem to be five men premade.
Yes, basically it’s a little like professional wrestling. ANet picks the winners and losers before the match, and you just play out your role.
It would be nice if they at least told you which you were meant to be so you didn’t have to figure it out for yourself.

It’s supposed to be a Role Playing game
I think this system will be fine by me if they add a dialogue box that pop up before every match with options accept and decline. This box will show combined MMR of each group and win chance of each group. If I see my chance of losing far outweighs my chance to loss, let me decline and take a pip loss instead of wasting 5 mins trying to gtfo the match.

Maybe they are intending to move away from eSports and trying to create their own genre of “eSports Entertainment”.

Not a bad idea, people might actually watch that.

Oh, wow. This is pretty brilliant. I think Anet should absolutely co-opt your idea and make it part of their esport branding strategy. They just need to throw in some heels, some babyfaces, a few sexy storylines, and Guild Wars 2 pvp suddenly becomes much more interesting.
The more games you have played, the more stable your MMR becomes. And a match with big MMR difference between two teams will affect the MMR less than a fair match. Unless you have very little ranked games played before the season, the first few matches won’t affect your MMR much and therefore won’t affect your following matches.
If you have played many ranked games before and are now only losing even in amber, your MMR must have been low before (unless there is a bug in the system). It has nothing to do with losing the first few matches because you were unlucky.

That’s not how the system is working right now.m Check reddit.
Need a good pvp guild (EU) who wants to help me get out of MMR hell. Paying good gold, whisper me ingame for offers.

Your MMR would stabilize if only your teammates were not picked based on it. Right now it’s an unstable because of the positive feedback between teammate quality and MMR. In the long term it may cause MMR value to be correlated to pip range but in the long term the people at top left because 1 hour queue and everyone else left because of 20 loss streaks.

Last season I got to ruby and just for fun tried to get to diamond. I never tanked to make the process easier. I went up a tier then down half a tier. Up two tiers then down one. The same way most people experienced season 1. I got to middle of the tier then went down a tier and that took about 40 matches and it seemed I could make it to diamond but didn’t think it was worth the effort.
I see you are trying to justify the new system in your own mind but it’s just not justifiable.
I don’t think it exactly works like this. I lost 7 games in a row yesterday. If what you say is right i would continue to lose games but i didn’t. After losing streak i started to win games again.
I experienced something like the op. I started ok, with decent teammates, and then after 4 losses it was horrible. I was winning 1v2 against the opossing team but our team would lose anyway.
I decided not to wait till things got better (or worse) and i teamed up, to win 5 consecutive and get out of amber. The players we were playing against were horrible, btw, and that was the biggest problem: once your mmr is low enough, you lose even to horrible players because your teammates are just as horrible.
The cure is teaming up. Last season it could be bad if your team wasn’t well coordinated, but now, just to offset the chance of having 3 thieves in your team, is a worthwile move.

Nope.

Yep.
