Question about the future of this games PVP
I can’t speak for “most” players, but I don’t feel cheated on… and I’m not sure where they ever said the game would be pvp centered… I do remember them saying they wanted this to evolve into an esport but I don’t think they ever said it was supposed to be solely centered around pvp.
I hope they do add in more stuff to pvp, but I also hope they continue to add things into the game everywhere… PvE, WvW and sPvP and any other side projects like SAB… I enjoy it all and personally want to see all aspects continue to grow and be refined.
I was lead to believe the game would be like GW1, with a wide variety of game modes like Jade Quarry, Fort Aspenwood, Alliance Battles, Codex Arena, Heroes Ascent, with all sorts of mixed objectives that encouraged a wide variety of playstyles. I fondly remember Monk/Paragons capping shrines and speed buffing turtles, who wanted to avoid direct confrontation whenever possible.
Yet here, all we have is this WoW Battleground/Team Fortress 2 style mess, where there are objectives, yes, but everyone ignores them unless they somehow lead to adding to their kill count, because that is the most effective way to play. What happened between now and then?
ANet does not care about PvP in Guild Wars 2. It’s odd because PvP is what made Guild Wars 1 a successful game. I think ANet realized that all of the PvP players would buy Guild Wars 2 expecting more of the same awesomeness that was present in GW1. So they knew they had our money right out of the gates. It’s the PvE players money they needed secure thus they dedicated all of their resources to PvE and hung PvP out to dry.
I certainly feel cheated……Guild Wars 2 is borderline Vaporware in it’s current state.

You don’t need to have the game centered around PvP to make it an eSport – but at the same time you can’t just ignore it either.
ArenaNet has pretty much ignored PvP. One new map in 7 months isn’t really that exciting when everything was bare bones to begin with.

I agree sPvP should get some attention, my point is that it shouldn’t be by taking attention away from elsewhere. Every aspect of the game should be continually worked on… in my opinion of course.

Wait, what? The most effective way to play the sPvP here is to capture points and hold them… each kill gives you 5 points where as each capture point grants 1 point every 2 seconds. If your team held all the points the other team would have to kill a player every 3.33 seconds and not have any of their players die either just to TIE the match…
I’m not saying that the games are all that varied… they do have some differences, sure, like the trebs, canons and friendly sharks, buffs, npc kills etc… but essentially they are all capture-the-point style pvp matches.
I’ll agree some real variation would be nice, like true capture the flag and some team deathmatch might be cool… maybe a pvp race type match, but the current games aren’t just walk in and kill people, you do have objectives you should try to accomplish if you’d like to win.
