Queuing tpvp solo - What's the point?
The design of this game is such that communication is one of the most important aspects to being successful.Enemies visible to your team do not show up on your map so everyone on the team has to be calling out numbers of enemies and movements that are spotted. Typing to your allies is not feasible in a WASD movement game, the only good option I have seen other than in-game voice chat (which has a host of issues of its own) is the VGS system used by smite in which you can use keyboard hotkeys to create both an auditory message and visual chat message of many common things that need to be communicated.
While I don’t think a system matching premades with pugs is a good one because of the unfair matchups, the value of communication and reliance on teammates in this game provides a much larger advantage to premades than other games.
I just got out of a solo queued tpvp tournament and we won. First round was against another PUG, second against a pre-made and the final round was against another PUG.
I’ve had plenty of bad luck solo queuing as well. Those games can be very discouraging, but they’re usually over very quickly. But the point is that you can win from solo queuing, and it’s not completely pointless. You do need a thick skin sometimes though.
Because here’s what Arenanet does.
ArenaNet is the only chef in a world class restaurant. There’s a lot of people pulling them in every direction, but he can only focus on one thing at a time. Eventually everyone will have their food served, even if it does take a few hours. Or months.

Winning with a PuG happens more often than you could imagine but still… it’s a frustrating experience to get matched with other randoms and just get wtfstomped by an expert group.
If you reeeeeally want to look at the bright side of this, facing organized teams is your real chance to learn pvp. Look what they do, how you die, read the death logs, do some research. You’ll get better in no time.
But in reality, joining solo is more often than not a pain in the rear hole and should be avoided if possible. Join a PVP guild or at least a guild with a bunch of people interested in PVPing, get yourselves some form of voice communication and go at it. It will still be frustrating, but playing with friends eases tha pain a bit. :\

People are walking out of the restaurant….
I think the only reason i still bother is because I have masochistic tendencies. I get so riled up at the inequities in the game, yet continue to play and queue in the hopes I can somehow outplay those inequities.
The fact is that what the game has devolved into isn’t even fun in the mists. If I wasnt so prideful about having ranted and raved about this game to everyone that would listen for the past, I’d have probably given up like most. I feel like the last rat on a sinking ship.

Bad analogy is bad. It’s like going to a world class restaurant with an amazing reputation that has a new head chef and the new chef brings a new menu (which isn’t bad on its own) and while not just being different food, the quality is nowhere near as good.
I didn’t even play GW1 but I know it launched with a ladder. ArenaNet had the right menu originally and with a new chef bringing some new ideas the game could have been great. Except we all came looking for a steak dinner and instead got yesterday’s Ramen.

Which is why Arenanet needs more chefs.
(When am I going to hear back from my application already?)

I’ve done quite a few solo tpvp queues, because I had no team to run with. I’ve won about 65% on the first round, about 40% on the 2nd round, and about 25% on the 3rd map with complete pugs and no communication whatsoever. They do need to implement a match making system along with other gamemodes (please implement rated team deathmatch/arenas ..1 v 1 2v2 3v3 4v4 5v5), but queuing solo in tpvp is not pointless right now.
You can’t expect to beat every team in a conquest gameplay with no communication/voice coms and with people you’ve never played with. That doesn’t mean it’s not fun to solo queue, though. It is very rare to get rofl stomped by an organized group when I run with a pug (about 4% or less of the time). When it happens, it is frustrating but I’m not mad because I know they have more practice and have communication whereas I do not. It does feel good when you beat a guild group with a complete pug, you have to admit.
