I open this topic because i don’t like this tipe of mechanic, and i want to know what other people and developer think about this. So the question is: “What do you think about this?”

In my opion it is a bad boon for this reasons:

  • It creates a lot of bugs like:
    Skills that last for less (persistent skills like consacration of guardian).
    Finishers that sometimes do not finish (you finish the action but if you move or get interrupted in the time you complete a normal finisher it will not work).
    Glitches in animations.
  • It allows impressive spike. Because it double the actions you can unleash all your skill in the half of time. Skills like pistol wip or hundred blades or triple chop can do more than 13k of damage in 2 seconds.
  • It broken the roll for dodge mechanic, because skills become soo fast than broken the wall of reflex + latency + cast time that allow to evade attacks. If you are an experience player is quite easy avoid bull’s charge than hundred blade but when bull charge gets a cast time of 0.5 seconds it become impossible.
  • Utility skills that give this boons have strong negative effects. Frenzy is the worst, it destroy the sturdy body of warriors or poor engineer that are so unlucky to get this malus.

In GW1 (i know it is a different game) there was a mechanic like that, but it was allowed to hve it all the time and the game was balanced on that sistem.

My suggestion is only one and is quite simple: destroy this boon and the negative effects of utilities that give it. Then give to skills, traits, runes and the sigil something like staks of might, fury or swiftness.

Anyway i play warrior with my main and i use frenzy and my second char is a ranger. I don’t want a nerf to warrior or mesm or other profession, i just think that this mechanic makes spike hard to balance.

I hope to see some interesting ideas, better than mine for sure that is quite simple.

I’m inclined to agree….to an extent.

Abilities when designed, need to fall within certain power parameters. If a Hero in LoL could suddenly deal 1000% damage, that would seem unreasonable. But a 200-300% increase can work, depending on cooldowns and telegraphing of said ability.

The fact that Haste, the 4 second Quickness accessible to the Thief, has an added down-side shows that it already falls outside of your typical power parameter.

Compare it with Assassin’s Singet for example which only provides a 15% damage increase for the next 5 attacks demonstrates the issue quite well.

Quickness is 100% DPS increase and as such much stronger than any other DPS cooldown you’d typically find. The fact that the developers added down-sides shows they understood this, but I don’t think it’s balanced.

After being the victim of a Frenzy + Hundred Blades or Haste + Pistol Whip you simply do not have the luxury to capitalize on the down-sides of these effects. The pressure they put you under is too immense forcing you do play defensively.

I think a 50% speed increase would be far more acceptable for Quickness. They could have it last a little longer and curb some of the down-sides accordingly but overall I think this would maintain it as a balanced ability without making it dangerously overpowered.

I understand what you are saying be I think they should weed out all those bugs you speak of FIRST. Then address reworking classes because some classes need some rework. First bring up other builds to the same lvl at the good ones. I could say a lot more but a lot have already commented on this and theorycrafted.

Also, many players have already learned how to deal AND counter this. It is not a big issue for anyone I know. It can be a little bursty but it keeps it exciting. If it was truely OP you would see nothing but a quickness comp but you don’t. EVEN if they were to make such a thing it is counter-able. If it was OP we wouldn’t know how to deal with it but we can deal with it.

Give it some time and you all will learn to deal/counter it.

FYI most of the burst builds you see in Hot-join 8v8s are not that great in 5v5 tournaments.
Fix Bugs then address these issues again. I love Quickness and believe it adds more depth and skill need to use/counter this. Don’t subtract things from the game because then it gets boring from lack of diversity.

It’s obvious to anyone who uses it that it’s over powered. Twice as fast means double damage. And there are already classes that can pull off impressive burst without haste.

They should increase the duration of haste effects and lower the speed boost to 33% to be in line with other boon effects. (swiftness, protection, poision). And possibly tweak the negative effects to compensate.

i only used quickness on my ranger because not being able to heal isnt much of a drawback because you don’t use it if you know you will need to heal in 1-2 seconds. Sadly the change to shortbow animation speed broke the build i used at the time so it became more useful just to use it for reviving and finishers.

I never use thiefs one apart from switching it out on khylo sometimes to range people down at mid point with bow. Not being able to dodge screws you over in team fights.

Warriors isnt too bad but you are forced to bring endure pain because stun breaking bulls charge is pretty easy. Mesmer ele and thiefs blink makes it useless. If that isnt available i blinding powder it. But that all depends if i didnt dodge it already anyway.

I wouldn’t mind it being removed but it would make warriors that much easier for me to kill.

Maybe they could change the downside effect on thiefs quickness to make it more risky in a 1v1 situation.

Ah, I didn’t see your post as I was writing mine. So it seems like you are falling back on a “wait till they fix bugs and balance classes before calling to nerf quickness” But the sad fact is, we are 6 months into the game and many bugs still exist. And while I agree spvp hotjoin is a different animal than tPvP, free and paid, you have to realize this is the sPvP forum. And regardless of what map you join, we are all playing the same game. Many people wish for a quick few rounds of hotjoin to maybe complete their pvp daily and then go back to pve. To those type of players, hotjoin is the only pvp game they see.

It seems silly to only balance around paid tournaments. Anet’s lofty goals of making this game an esport people want to watch on the scales of Starcraft or League of Legends or even some FPS are far, FAR away. If even ever a possibility. They have said in the past that they weigh balance changes on pve/spvp/wvw and I belive this is the correct way to balance things.

Well if you are the people that just come for a few rounds then go back to PvE then stop posting on PvP forums since you aren’t really serious about PvP. And with you reasoning of “they haven’t fixed the bugs yet”…well whats makes you think they would rework quickness than?

It’s not only 100% increased damage, but 100% faster stomping and the like. I do agree that 50% stronger would still make it quite viable, without being so… “exaggerated” as it is? I feel like quickness breaks a certain limit that it shouldn’t, and players have been associating it with unfun/ unsatisfying losing for some time.

I do more than just 2 rounds of hotjoin. I was trying to enlighten readers of this thread that there are many types of player and many levels of player skill and core comabt mechanics should be balanced for the overall game experience. Telling someone to “l2p” adds nothing to the conversation.

Sit there and honestly tell me that quickness isn’t the single strongest effect you can have on your character, BY FAR. Things that are very strong, should be examined for possible tweaking. Or at the very least, have other less competitive abilities brought up to their level.
