Quit sPvP in Beta - Has Anything Changed?
new game modes are on the way but… no nod from anet to how gw2 has nothing to do with gw1, and even new game modes wont fix that.
pretty much not a game i would recomend to a fan of gw1, or of good pvp in general.
I was rather “hardcore” HA player in GW1, but sPvP in GW2 just didn’t seem interesting to me back when I played it during the beta last year (I tried it out again this year, but it still seemed pretty much the same – like 5 months ago). It seemed chaotic, random, unorganized. The game mode didn’t seem appealing too.
Has anything changed? Has arena net said anything about adding new PvP game modes or returning the old ones from GW1? I’m sure they’ll add GvG sooner or later.
Many things have changed, but the pvp experience is the same (bad)
> Balance is now worse
> We now have a matchmaking & leaderboards that dont work
> We have new bad designed maps
> In game tournaments don’t exist anymore
> You can pay money to rent a custom server
Stay away from this game
What happened to eSport premise?
I heard somewhere GW2 now is MLG.

1000 viewers esport
They’ve added a Solo Queue and Leaderboards, which aren’t anywhere near perfect, but they’re a nice addition.
It’s still the same game mode, Conquest, but they’ve been testing out Deathmatch and King of the Hill.
They’ve added some maps, I don’t know if you’ve played them or not yet though. Whether they’re good or bad is really up to you, since there are mixed feelings on them and where they belong.
The only thing I find too chaotic about the PvP is all the on-screen clutter that results from pets and AI.
Class balance is how class balance always is… unbalanced, but the recent tournament showed a decent spread of classes, besides elementalist which had ZERO representation in the tournament.
Finally, GW2 is technically an esport now and is a part of MLG, but it’s only just started so it’s relatively small. The first MLG tournament only had 1,500 viewers, but you need to take into account that only two days notice was given about the tournament.
I would try to find out how many viewers the PAX tournament championship round had, that may be a better indication of current viewer popularity since it was announced and promoted with ample time before it actually began.
You chose a bad time to ask—the forums have been a bit caustic lately.
Balance has had a couple of flaws recently, but it’s definitely way better than it was at launch.
Hotjoin and lower solo queue matches will always feel a kittenaotic and random, but of course, competitive matches are far from it. I feel hotjoin matches are one of the worst features of PvP right now—they don’t really have anything to do with how the game actually works, people tend to just blob around to get as much glory as possible. I can’t blame you for feeling like it was chaotic and random if you jumped into a hotjoin match.
Anet has confirmed they’re working on new game modes. Large-scale modes in general have not been as popular as smale-scale modes. With no trinity to force priority targets and focus most of the damage down to a couple of dps builds, matches larger than 5v5 generally feel a bit off. However, there’s a group of people that’s been doing 15v15 deathmatches in WvW and reporting great success, so you never know.
game is much better now. Pvp changed a little bit, but pve, man, pve, wvw cross server play is sick.
Agree, the world pvp is really more lasting fun than the the spvp and tpvp. This game honestly is not that competitive in arena style pvp and the participation is so low that Anet doesn’t put that many resources towards balancing or improving it.
