Raid on Capricorn
I would personally love to have this map back. I found it incredibly fun and think it’d be cool to bring back plus I enjoy underwater combat. ^^
The problem of this map is that everyone hated it in the past and it’s been canceled.
The reason was also why the underwater combat is totally unbalanced.
Eliminating that map, devs no more needed to rework the underwater skills, that last as they are from 3 years.
Insert now that map will broke all the little pvp balance we actually have and will force the Devs to fix and balance underwater fights.
The main reason they cancelled it is: there’s a lot of good maps, why spend time to balance a underwater fight when we can cancel it from spvp?
And now we have no more the raid o capricorn map XD

It’s weird to see a game design company just throw up their hands and totally delete programming versus try to fix things.
It’s especially odd considering other decisions made my Anet.
They will allow gross imbalances to go on for ages in RANKED pvp (i.e. hambow, eles on 2 occasions, turret engies, etc.) yet totally delete something that had small imbalances underwater. BTW, underwater combat only constituted a portion of that map, and it’s a map they could have simply been excluded from RANKED if they didn’t feel like fixing it.
Why on earth were they worried about imbalances (that are fixable btw) on an unranked map…yet consistently do little to nothing for long periods about balance on RANKED maps???
Why even put underwater combat in the game if you are going to quasi admit it’s imbalanced, and you’re not interested in fixing it???
Why spend all this effort on expansion “new abilities” and leave something already fresh and innovative like underwater combat flawed???
This decision is even worse that forcing premades and solo players to play in one ranked que versus separate/voluntary ques. Poor logic and decisions by Anet has really hurt the popularity and fun of the game.
I personally miss this map. Wish they’d bring it back. Didn’t they fix the underwater point by icing over the lake?

The community should knowledge underwater combat for what it is, as such as the courtyard is to zerg mobbing, nothing is perfect, but the point is: the map was beautiful, it was fun, and it’s dearly missed
I’ve been spamming this along with other suggestions from the community, no luck in terms of an answer though >.< hopefully we will get one soon.

Bringing this map back would make A LOT of pvpers happy, both veteran and new.
I really don’t see why they don’t bring it back into the map selection of custom arenas.
No need to add it back into unranked/ranked, but at least give us the option to play it in our own arena to have some fun, there is literally no argument against that.
Probably still playing ranger.
So hows this newly improve map mechanic work? The one who control the Ship is the one who can bombard point? Didn’t play this map before cos I am too busy farming my glorious rank to achieved popularity in the previous Leaderboard. Any tips and advice?

As frustrating as this map was to play at times, it could also be very fun.
I see no reason not to bring it back, at least to the Hot Join servers if nothing else.

There aren’t that many underwater skills, a-net could easily balance them to a decent level IF THEY WANTED TO. But the community does not seem to care much for underwater combat, so it is not a-net’s priority.
When the Bubble-expansion comes… maybe
Certainly wasn’t a good decision to remove the map from open arenas.
Definitely want this for custom arenas. Courtyard used to be exclusive to custom arenas so there is precedent for it.

There’s something called Tyria3D where you can find old versions of the game and use it to get all of the collision data and stuff for maps that potentially were never released (at least that’s my understanding of how it works). Woodenpotatoes did a video where he looked at one map that was a version of Capricorn that was modified to make all 3 points above water and reachable along platforms. I believe the ship in the middle was larger, and the cannons became a more important mechanic or something like that. I would be perfectly happy with them bringing that back into the game, but not as it was. Underwater combat is bad enough that people should be able to completely opt out of it if they choose, not just be at the mercy of RNG and a single vote. I suppose if they really wanted, they could add it in a completely different section like stronghold.

This map was actually me and a guild mates favorite map for 8 vs 8. 2 things that this game was awesome for. Even if underwater combat was difficult for certain classes you didnt notice as much simply cause the hot joins were so filled.

i hate cheesy map gimmicks like cannons,
i hate underwater combat,
i hate NPCs in pvp.
this map had all 3, and one of the bases was underwater so you had no choice, someone on your team had to endure it.
if the map voting hugely favouring Forefire and Forest should show anything its that we don’t want gimmicks, we want simple maps.

heck, this map would be great as a 10 vs 10 map.
anet should host a few say 3 – 5 servers hosting this map only. 10 vs 10.

The only decent map that A-Net has created outside of the classic 3 is Temple. So no, raid is awful and so are skyhammer, courtyard and spirit watch.

I think people hated underwater combat more than Capricorn itself. Regardless, it should at LEAST be brought back for Custom Arenas, if not Unranked as well.

At least put it in hotjoin to start with, while taking time to redesign and “dry out” the water for unranked.
Edit: Or put mid on the ship so it’s above water, and leave the water in there as a hazard zone.

I just wish we got more maps. Be it 2nd map for Stronghold, 2nd Deathmatch/Annihilation map, another Conquest map.

It’s a nice way to change the map, since Capricorn is the name of the ship and removing the water would be weird, though I think anet should give some love for underwater combat.
The funny thing is that even how unbalanced water combat is it wasn’t much more unbalanced than ground combat with the new trait system.
I really miss that beach and hiding behind the house
