Raid on the Capricorn: a win/win solution

A lot of people want an arena or deathmatch mode, most people don’t enjoy water combat, and many others (including tpvp itself) agree this map is too unbalanced to work in conquest. ArenaNet can’t just ditch water combat, so what is to lose? Just keep the same spawn points, same timer, and give points for kills: voila

No one has to go in the water, but they could, and it would be just as tempting to take the high ground elsewhere or clash on the pirate ship. I think the terrain would permit several different tactics and keep things fresh. You could take or leave the cannon and sharks…

What if you put an NPC at the ruins (instead of sharks) that grants a boon like Svanir? Then you have an incentive to enter underwater combat instead of a mandatory requirement. Of course, if you can’t do this without all the good teams simply staying underwater, just leave it out. You’d still have people entering the water, getting knocked into it, and giving chase, but that’s part of their choice/strategy.

Sure, we can focus on what problems may arise, but why not be proactive and find simple solutions to pose with any hangups:

Perhaps you’d create a debuff that begins after _ seconds of camping underwater (if it became an issue). Obviously, you’d wanna turn off the ability to totally escape combat in arena. I think the meta would quickly straighten out any player that needlessly bails on his or her allies in a straight-forward match, and I don’t see how it could pose any more of a problem than it does in conquest.

That map is just utter failure on every level for both conquest and deathmatch, just remove it.

Alts: Warrior, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist (bunker)

I really doubt they’ll just throw out an entire map, or water combat. Not a smart business move, nor are they completely broken or unenjoyable. Truth is we’re probably gonna have to deal with these aspects because they’ve already made the investment. I’m just thinking of simple ways to make these an enjoyable option for everyone, while getting them out of the way (of enjoyment) for the majority. The real problem with Capricorn is that it forces people to fight at a disadvantage underwater via conquest points. Imho, this would solve that (and so much more…)

Finally, I really like pirate ships, so… come on
