Hey everyone, I’ve been doing some pvp with a ranger and thief. However, I can’t seem decide on which one to main for pvp, along with pve and wvw. How good/viable are the ranger and the thief?

Both are viable right now. Condi ranger has a place as a good back point defender. Ele can arguably do it better…. but its possibly one of the best, if not THE best 1v1 spec right now. Power ranger is a lot better than it was too…..

D/P is very viable right now. S/D is not.

Basically if you like the stealth mechanic, go theif. If you rather be visible in the fight, have a pet, and do crazy insane damage go ranger.

Condi ranger is mean on point but it is crap for rotating and hard countered by necro and diamond skin ele.

Power ranger can kill a thief in a fight but a thief will out rotate him any day of the week and bring better damage.

So to answer your question you should play ele or mesmer because they are op and anet is slow on balance patches.

My recommendation would be not to “main” a spec in PvP. Rather get good at one and switch to the next. By the time you return to your “main” you’ll have found your favorite play-style and you’ll be significantly better at the game for understanding the strengths and weaknesses of many different class/builds.
