Ranger orb running...
If you say it looks like hacking, maybe he was hacking
Its just a too situational build,i dont think that is so much unstopable but again is too situational to become OP or to need nerf.
I agree with Dardamaniac. I’m familiar with that ranger orb runner build and that’s literally ALL they can do, their dps blows and they can’t bunker, only run. I’d much rather see leap/dash effects not work with orb carrying at all.
If he doesn’t have Rampage as one up, just ask a staff ele to drop a Static Field, and chain that with a 5 sec freeze from Ice bow, that should let you guys kill him.

He probably had stability. Sword/warhorn and a GS will get you a LONG distance with their skills.

Situational? When Spirit Watch is the only map Anet allow us to play, you are begging people to abuse this cheese.
Evade thief worked well for me the few times I ran the orb with it. Traited for vigor on heals, use Withdraw, Sigil of Energy, Roll for Initiative; you can roll roll roll a lot.
But there are build sacrifices to make for that mobility.

Relax isnt as unstopable as op made it sound like.I would be fine to reduce the leaps range while you are carrying the orb..But again i repeat, its to situational to be looked at now,ele are op at more aspects and roles in any map..Keep an priority in your head ppl dont release the nerf bat again
If you figure out the solution, lemme know heh.
It’s certainly an extremely situational build. Of course, if spirit watch is the designated tourney map, and that’s the only one you ever get since it’s set in the rotation, there’s no real reason not to “situationally build” for it, since it’s the only situation available.
Basically it’s “oh, spirit watch is the tourney map the next few days? I’ll take a couple mins and setup for it, k done!”
If only other people could use those builds or other stronger or more specialized builds, forming some sort of networked set of plays and counter-plays.
We could call it a ‘meta’.
We could call it a ‘meta’.
That is a very nice word compared to some of the others I have heard used to describe it.

Its not a nerf bat lol. Its one friggin map. No movement enhancers should work with the orb. Its not hard to understand really. I consider it a bug fix more then anything. They forgot to make these abilities not usable with the orb as far as I am concerned.

Lac is an awesome and I mean awesome! orb runner. That’s all there is to it.
Hey, that was me! It’s “Laciuna Stormleaf”, actually, and I think you’re being a bit hyperbolic in your claims.
There’s no hacking involved, and I never capture the orb anywhere close to within five seconds. Maybe ten or fifteen when I’m being completely ignored, but that’s when I take it to a side point, not raven (raven takes longer). You also never had a situation where your entire team was beating on me yet I still managed to pick up the orb; stop exaggerating. Elementalists and guardians have things like blocks and shields they can use to pick up the orbs even when people are attacking them, rangers do not. If I picked it up, it’s purely because your team was being inattentive. Rangers are incredibly easy to stop right at the altar: if you can’t pay attention to it at all times (considering it only takes a couple seconds to pick up the orb), then you don’t deserve to complain when they actually grab it.
I use greatsword and sword/warhorn, so I have both swoop and monarch’s leap (and lightning reflexes as an additional ‘leap’), which can let me cover a good pit of distance when not being properly attacked. Tell me, how many other rangers have you seen that sacrificed their easy-mode shortbow to run full melee? I’ve seen one, maybe two, in the past five months of playing this build. It excels at orb running when the player knows what they’re doing, just like certain thief builds excel at mindlessly killing people in two hits. Just because you can’t adapt doesn’t mean it’s a huge problem.
I have one source of stability: Rampage as One. I have one source of on-demand condition removal: Healing Spring, which only removes a single, usually useless condition with the one tick I’ll get out of it when running the orb. I have a single source of CC: the wolf fear, which has a two or three second wind-up animation, making it absurdly easy to dodge. I have no invulnerability of any kind. Compare this to other professions and you’ll see that it’s ridiculously outclassed.
I’m not going to sit here telling the forum how to counter me in perfect detail, but yeah, it’s not that hard. Learn to adapt.

well i had enough of this kitten..rangers ele, guards 4 bunkers and an engie..3 bunkers and 2 engies and you soloq and end up with 3 lol thiefs or a warrior..
CHANGE MAP PLS 3 HOURS SOONER PLS..
I have a stream of it and will post. It’s not hyperbole. We had jsut played your team a match earlier so we were well aware what would be happening and with what frequency. To start the match, our guard went wolf and four of us went straight to orb to kill you. Your team stealthed you..but we still called that you were there. When you popped visible… i immediately stole to you…yet you still had the orb.
With two thieves using inf strike, an ele and an engy….we all trained you as called target. You were at top of stairs in 1 move… rooted there for a sec because inf strike actually works at top steps…. took some dmg..but very little. Evade, dodge, evade, evade, dodge, evade, dodge… leap..rush… gone. We followed you to Bear….beating on you in vein… you deposit, turn, and literally leap back to mid before we can even reach the end of pathway up top near bear.
Point: Four ppl, on voip, calling you as a target, training on you for the full opener…could not stop you. The rest of the game goes down hill from there…as admittedly we now have to split and start getting points or its just over. The reality is that throughout the match, four ppl trained on you will not happen. If four can’t do the job in the opening frames…so much less so will 2 do it throughout the match.
your build is broken for this map. there is no other way around it. the orb gives a 40% speed debuff for a reason…and builds like yours exploit the fact to abuse the scoring mechanic. It was never intended to be scored in this speed and succession. Regardless, kudos to you and your pve mastery to tank-speed run the orb like a champ. you will no doubt cheese many many victories this week and when the map switches…likely retrait to a more common ranger build. Such is life. Thanks for the l2p message… that helps. I should just l2p and follow suit on a ranger of my own. and undoubtedly all are free to do this. It is no wonder that ppl serious about playing spirit watch bring guards/rangers/eles and the trend will do nothing but continue as it becomes the only competitive way to play the map.
I have no hard feelings towards you…just detailing the reality. Peace and good day
Euratien is a good player. He owned me one time with an Eles fiery greatsword and i lold pretty hard.
I would ignore any l2p comments. The map isn’t balanced and won’t be for a long time. You can’t add a 40% slow and then have classes that have skills that avoid that 40% slow. Devs seem pretty shortsighted on some of this stuff but i guess they have alot on their plate.
The map definitely has issues.
Given the amount of cheesy builds and comps that come out of the woodwork every time this map is up is a fair indication of such.
Which is a shame though. I like the map. I like the concept. It’s horribly imbalanced though.
I’ve stayed at this party entirely too long
Serious post: I can’t wait to see the video. Hurry up.
I didn’t say learn to play, I said learn to adapt. Heaven forbid a map encourage a different playstyle than the standard bunkering of points. Just because you want the game to remain stagnant and every map to revolve around the current bland and boring ‘meta’ doesn’t mean it should. And, by the way: Elementalists can make it to the orb at the beginning even faster than I can. They also have AoE CC, and can block any attempt to stop them from picking up the orb with their earth shield. I cannot.
Regardless, I look forward to seeing myself in action from your perspective, if you post the video.

Elementalists are the only one that avoid the 40% slow. The slow applies to how far leap skills go, as well. If it’s 1,200 distance normally, it’s 720 with the orb. Even less if you pile cripple or chill on top of that.
Isn’t it funny how Rangers can take more of a beating and move faster then a warrior can?
Beast mode
1. Its Eurantien. 2. I do not set up for orb running but when I do… 3. My fiery GS build owns (all you Kyhlo trebbers should know that).
Am I good?… I’m good.
We also played them several times last night. Never lost to them but it is virtually impossible to slow him down once he has picked it up. Easiest thing to counter him is to simply not let him pick up the orb, he has no invuln or blocks while channeling the pick up so it’s not hard to keep contested. Additionally, because he is so focused on trying to pick up the orb he’s usually very susceptible to burst and has no damage even if he does try to fight you.
doesn’t dmg interrupt the initial orb taking ?
So just stay there with 1person and deny the pick up .. ?
Orb ranger running builds are pretty weak at everything else.
Am I good?… I’m good.

2:11:10 is the start point of match. You will see us stealth up and go out… realize they are stealth and immediately target the ranger at orb when he vises… the rest is hilarious. You wont hear me talking – mic muted for stream. but enjoy this ranger’s beautiful moves. Oh and by the way… if you ask why we dont root him more on the bridges leading up to bear using inf strike…its because inf strike is broken on those bridges and ports you no where..same as shadow step.
Thnks for the vid and I’m sure the ranger is terribly flattered by it
But on a serious note, why don’t you criticize the imbalanced cheese-seeker thieves, HgH engies and cantrip ele’s while your at it…
Those specs were your entire team comp and they are pretty much the most imbalanced ones out there atm. Even compared to a ranger who throws away his/her entire spec just to run an orb a bit faster than anyone else.

I have never wanted to play a Ranger before this moment. I love watching SW games.

omg that’s us
you’re famous lac^^
Oh no, there’s a build that excels at something, QQ.
Seriously though, of course the map itself isn’t balanced. But when somebody dedicates an entire build to doing one thing really well, and then they do that one thing well, it… makes sense. Unless I’m missing something. Now a build itself would be overpowered if it could output glass cannon damage and run seamlessly, but because there aren’t any of those, it isn’t the builds that are overpowered.
As far as balancing the orb, this has been requested since the map was first released. As far as calling a build OP when its built to excel at something and then excels at something…. do I even need to say more?

just watched mursie’s match.
team was inexperienced vs this spec. maethar already gave great suggestions.
if he does get the orb, don’t chase this spec, intercept it. your players on the upper level should be either neuting his target point or timing CC on the end of a leap anim. ( Swoop & Monarch’s Leap are not evades )

This thread is great, I don’t know whats funnier, the fact that we have a 2 Engineer/2 Thief/1 Ele team whining about a Ranger
Or that they had no idea how to stop the ranger or count past 5 it seems… (at no point in that video did he get the ball back to his thing in 5 seconds)

lolololol stop complaining about rangers you guys are just very inexperienced. Half your team has the ability to use cc and kill a ranger if you all ganged up.

That was a pretty weak showing. I don’t want to insult the ranger (because he’s quite good), but nothing he did was so exceptional as to be exploiting.
I think the distance covered by some skills is a bit wonky on hills, but you had him CC’d a few times and just flubbed it.
