Since apparently you live under a rock, spirit rangers were basically the most op thing in the game since release. Thier nerf has been long overdue, as ANet was just waiting until after PAX for them to tone it down again. Do some research before complaining too much please.

Vamp… think for a minute about the concept of counter play.
An ele can now updraft the spirit res. Guards can Banish. Warriors can Backbreaker it.
That is balanced. Most terrible players will not even see that opportunity. Good players will.
Spirits now actually have a price. That is great for the game and honestly this kind of change was needed about a month ago.

Unfortunatly these changes don’t do anything to effect the real problem with pet builds of all kinds (and what I think was most players real gripe with them) visuall clutter and targeting difficultys.
Changes to AoE caps, name and health plates for pets, the tab targetting system and asura size and animation would all have helped far more than just removing spirit builds (not for the 1st time!) from the game (they arn’t used in pve or wvw anyway – as the spirits get one shot by all kinds of stuff and don’t provide much that other builds can’t)
BM bunker should still be playable at least, I far prefer it to spirits anyway.

They didn’t remove spirit builds. I honestly don’t think people will stop running the build in PvP. There’s just more of a price and you can’t blind people at the end of a fight until their next attack a minute later.
A 25 second cooldown makes them work similarly to minions for Necros, which is at least tolerable because you don’t have permanent uptime. Burn and protection on hit is very, very strong support.
It’s okay Rangers your crutch is still there it’s just not as overpowered >.>
Rangers were op, they needed changes but now…you don’t wanna see a ranger in your team.

lol. Rangers are fine. This was a much needed normalization (I won’t even call it a nerf, because it really isn’t) of spirit functionality. They still have decent HP, bodyblock, and provide all of their utility. They just don’t have 100% uptime, which means you actually have take time to prep them before a fight instead of just throwing them up on cooldown.
im gonna go farm solo queue with this nerfed ranger build and see if it can get me 10 consecutive wins.

Chopps 1.5 seconds is not horrifically long. At all.
Again, Spirits are still viable in small scale situations. The Petting Zoo at mid is not a good idea though, because that cooldown will hurt like hell when the Engi Grenades, Thief Cluster Bombs, Warrior Arcing Arrows, etc. along with their teammates.
Eles and Mesmers can Updraft / Illusionary Wave your spirit res now. AWWWWW I feel so sorry for you.

I’m sorry but if you can’t play as a ranger because your spirits are on cooldown , then you just suck at the game. Quit while you are down, just give up. There’s no deep thinking involved, if your build requires you to let your passives do the talking and you still suck, just lmao.
Ya one of my friends forgets to put spirits up and still puts burning, bleeding, and poison on people while evading attacks. I guess she plays Ranger better than someone who puts 2500 hours into that class spamming Crossfire XD

I tried to use the spirit build for quite a while and it was ok for standing on point but the spirits always died immediately, were always a pain to try and recast during a fight and they always lagged way behind when running over terrain. I’m glad it’s gone because there is a better build out there.
I predict the next nerf to rangers will be traps/conditions and when that doesn’t keep people from qqing then we will see nerfs to evade on sword. One of most rewarding things about playing a ranger is doing well inspite of overall class weakness and continued nerfs.
This change ensured that Ranger spirits have just as much value as most every other summonable minion/pet in the game—none. Which is fine, don’t get me wrong. If I were to nerf spirits this is exactly how I would have done it. But I wouldn’t have been so shortsighted as to think the class would still function with a change like this without improvements elsewhere.
Oh well. Back to trap condition spam I guess, or as we in the Ranger community call it: half-[censored] engineer.

Here’s an idea Rangers that don’t know your class. There is a delightful little skill that gives you the longest stability uptime in the game called “Rampage as One.”
Now if you are running Traps, many Warriors are silly enough to pop Berserker stance early on in the fight. You can bait them with the weapon skills you have. You get to wait out their burst, laugh at them because they’re not ready for what you’re about to do to them.
Once Zerker is down, you lay the traps, and laugh your kitten off as he eats all that bleeding, burning, poison, chill, and drops faster than a prom dress.
There, your arch nemesis is about to make a QQ thread about Rangers.

It’s enough to completely remove the spirit build from the game.
Nobody would be stupid enough to run the build knowing they have no stun breaks, little condition removal and 30 points traited to something that’s dead most of the time.
Spirit ranger should be an even easier kill now. Just kill the spirits at the onset of every fight, save your interrupts for the recast and you have almost a minute to kill a defenseless ranger with conditions.

Spirit Ranger builds come with the passive stun break from Shared Anguish, now you have two pet condi passes and you still get to keep the good spirits.

As a ranger player i’m glad they nerfed the spec a bit. Tbh it was bad for the game and boring to play. I don’t really know if these changes have made the spec not viable, we will see.

The autoattack spam is a shortbow related problem, it has nothing to do with spirits. Spirits simply made the spam more effective.
On a side note, all this hate towards the ranger class is really sad and depressing. It seems like rangers are the only ones spamming, while other classes require so much skillZ.

Which is fine, I’m sure most Rangers won’t miss the Spirit build. The problem is the alternative build isn’t any better and will be next up on the QQ train. I’ll give it until Thursday before the Ranger condi burst is overpowered and burn needs to be nerfed to start dominating the sPvP forum.
If anything Trap Ranger provides MORE synergy with Necro. Traps + Marks + Scepter/Dagger AoE is going to hurt like hell lol
This update certainly isnt going to bring me back. Brought Spirits down (though didnt provide an alternative at all) and didnt touch the other classes which are broken. Mesmer still has no place, necromancer still is too easy to play. Not a worth while patch for PvP at all.
