I don’t have anything personal against Rangers, I just don’t want them on my team. I don’t see anyone else talking about them on the forums so maybe I’m on my own here but I’ve noticed if I have a ranger on my team the odds of winning the match is less, unless the other team has a ranger to balance it out, or better yet they have more than my team.

The only rangers I see in Spvp are running the spirit build, which most rangers seem to be incompetent at. I don’t really play my ranger much, especially in Spvp. Are they really that under-powered as a class in pvp environment, or is it just my perception?

On a side note I also find thieves to be particularly weak as well, especially if there is more than one on the team, even when I’m running light armor classes, but still a notch above rangers due to stealth and spiking.

Thieves are one of the strongest classes in spvp currently and a must have at high tier tournaments.

Rangers are good, but losing ground pretty rapidly due to the power of thieves and warriors.

It is you’re perception if you do not have a spirit ranger you have a disadvantage to an actual comp. Only reason you do not see many of them is because no one wants to play a class that rely’s solely on the number 1 (cause it is so fun to auto attack people to death #anet class design). You really can’t be bad at spirit ranger, but you can be bad at game mechanically.

High Boon duration/Multiple heal sources/Perma Fury if a frequent Weapon Swapper (which I am for the sigils of energy)

You really can’t be bad at spirit ranger, but you can be bad at game mechanically.

I’ve seen lots of bad spirit rangers. Do you realize how easy it is to absolutely wreck a spirit ranger who only presses spirits, crossfire and heal?

Rangers are very strong. But they are like necros and engineers. All massively overpowered and lame but made to look bad by thieves, warriors and guardians. AH, healing signet/cleansing ire/adrenal health/berzerker stance/endure pain, pistol whip/withdraw/evasion thief/steal are all just so incredible that really there isn’t much you can do about it. Throw in exceptional skills like pin down, impale, combustive shot, heartseeker, inf strike, LS, disabling shot, staggering blow, the fact every guardian weapon skill seems strong – and you get just incredible specs like bunker guardian (as bunker), thief (as roamer) and warrior (as transition class which can fill every roll). This game has required you to run bunker guard for so long now that it really sucks #Nerfeverything

S/P thieves can farm spirit rangers, like warriors because we don’t have stun-break.

I’m trying to play again a BM build because of that.

Maybe you need to get paired with better players?

Ranger is perfectly fine. The issue is most playing it are kittening bad.

I’ve been trap since day1.

Anyone running Spirits is just trolling.

Just a heads up, Furious Grip does not last 10 seconds, it only lasts 5 seconds doesn’t stack with boon duration. It might be a bug but I have feel it was designed so didn’t last 10 seconds so we had perma fury….. Been like this for very long time….

Just because mesmers get farmed by thieves doesn’t make them bad. Mesmers are very strong with a ton of strengths. IF they buff mesmer to deal with thieves they will just wreck everyone else and the game will continue down the power-creep road to doom which is started 8 months ago.

Please stop the nonsense about mesmer being bad. Thief is just broken in so many way with massive damage and massive evasion (unkillable) on both s/d and s/p. That is what shuts down mesmer. Nothing else. Mesmer is strong and should NOT be buffed at all. That would be absurd. Instead thieves and warriors should be nerfed so they don’t single handedly eliminate any other damage specs from the game.

It’s the re-roll spec, basically you re-roll a warrior and win

Besides being confined to one build, rangers are strong in pvp. Most top tier teams run one, same with thief. There are some misconceptions nowadays though since ranger used to be a back point 1v1 class, which it is no longer very good at.
