I am finding it more and more difficult to find the motivation to log in and play ranked matches everyday. Typically at least one AFK person per two matches, people who have little to no motivation to win, or (no offense) PVE’ers not taking it seriously running around in PVE specs not really helping at all. I would much rather prefer a four man queue system that still left an open spot for single players. I am about done with pick up group or two man party “ranked” pvp. It is very frustrating :/

Anyone else with a similar experience? What are you doing to renew your motivation after playing these types of games over and over? Thanks.

honestly I just went back to unranked. I got stuck in silver, so I actually get better opponents when playing unranked. It’s less stressful too because you’re not perpetually having to hard carry the pugs.

I took the advice of a fellow forum member and stopped trying to support these players and started playing a DPS role…..

You might have a lot more luck if you do the same. Some matches are unwinnable due to the circumstances but if you play a DPS role right and end fights before they’ve begun then you should be right in carrying your team.

This is my build if you want to try it…..

It has the same mind numbing rotation:

Rush > mid rush pop stab > Headbutt > Berserker up > Arc Slice for damage boost > Bulls charge to knock em down > 100b > whirlwind attack as they get up > Arc slice if they need another one. For Necro this continues onto: Swap weapon > Shield bash > Eviscerate > Cyclone Axe > Swap weapon > Rush > Whirlwind attack.

The leagues and PvP are a joke. That’s all there is to it.

If I could take PvP to pre-June 2015, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Same here whenever i’m on my druid. My games as a druid are either going really good or really bad, all depends on if ur teammates are decent or not.

As a druid you’ll make decent players great and great players godly.
But useless players will still be useless if they have no idea what they’re doing.

In games with “useless” players (don’t like using the term useless but i’m having a hard time to describe them in a better way.) i’m better off going mesmer & trying to outrotate the enemy decapping/capping side points, making people come to me.

I’m currently stuck between Gold 1 and Silver 3 simply because every single time I get to mid Gold 1, the matchmaker decides it doesn’t want me to win anymore and puts me on a team of P/P teamfighting Thieves, people that instadie and double cap, and don’t have a clue how to focus targets, rotate or hold points.

I actually JUST had an arguement with a DH that decided he was the leader of the team and told everyone “Don’t go with me to Far, I’ll get it” and proceeded to die over, and over, and over again there. He’d die and just run back, again and again. I then proceeded to explain to him that if the enemy is camping on far then leave them to 5v4 at mid and close, but nope, I apparently “Didn’t understand how to play as a team”.

It’s this kinda thing that I’m getting every single time I make decent progress; I suddenly start on a lose streak that eventually kicks me all the way back to where I started, just so that I have to do it all over again. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not perfect either, I make mis-rotations and play poorly at times, but I know the basics of PvP and I can definitely hold my own in a fight because of my experience solo roaming and dueling in WvW. It’s just so frustrating constantly being put in teams with people that don’t have a clue how to do those things.

As for my motivation? Meh, I just play until I get too salty to carry on, lol. Then I quit.

This system is BS, as usual.

Everyone asked for make ranked totally playable only as PUG players, totally random and without any chance to make a team (or at last be in 3-4 players) and now someone find out that the MM system is bad and also if it was good there will be only to hope and prey at the start of every single match to don’t have abyssal noobs in team?

Anyway, play a DPS role because a support without a team that have a little of coordination isn’t possible to support, unless you’re really good and find players good as you. But as a dps you can carry some noobs to victory, if you’re really good.

Exact same situation its funny how are situations are mirrored. Had a match 415 – 500 lost that… only lost 11 rating. No issue here.. THEN next match get set up against an opposing team which clearly knew what they were doing with my team of feeders and people not even fighting on points and you just knew that they had no idea what was going on my their map movement… match ended 500 – 88 they win and I lost 20 RATING.

(My division placement was mid gold then t hat weekend after leagues started lost 7 matches lmao and now stuck in low gold and every time I make progress get shot back down just like the example I said. It is completely nonsense. This system is clearly in favor of duo teams as I know all my acquaintances (yea not friends and they don’t duo que with me lol but whatever I wish I had someone who wanted to dedicate duo que with me but yea anyway) who are in 1700 rating area and I clearly know aren’t even that amazing at Spvp (watched them play for years now) which is funny to watch them stay up there. Basically taking advantage of that fact of duo que > soloque by far and much more favorable to do anything in this league season.

Just a tip to anyone if the League Spvp upsets you more then it gives you enjoyment.. for your own well being quit it (like I decided) because you get nothing but stress in your life already you don’t need a gaming system that decides you need to do work for other people (lol funny like real world huh).

I had the same issue. Even though I won 7 of my placement games I was put into silver. Initially I ran a normal power DH with mixed results, until some ppl suggested going condi. The condi build rly helped me carry the teamfights as it’s completely designed around doing loads of damage to clueless people. Just dropping purging generally had the effect of them running in and out of it like headless chicken killing themselves or insane downed cleave killing both the downed and players trying to rez at the same time.

It’s an extremely simple build so you could try it out. Doesn’t work higher up ofc but it helps with getting out of the absolutely brainless divisions.

Most people seem to have forgotten that there is 5 totally random players on the enemy team and only 4 totally randoms on your team (or 3 if you duoQ). So it is actually more likely that the troll-, unmotivated-, pve-, bad-, “horribad”-, “terribad”- and “kittentibad”-players are on the enemy team.
(Terms in quote marks are terms that ppl who have to blame their team for everything commonly use. If you are one of them, STOP.). It is just EXTREMELY rare that ALL the players who are not playing well are on YOUR team. Yet players make it sound like all of them are in their team. Remember that there are also players better than you in pretty much every game.

It is YOU that make the difference between climbing or dropping. Play better than others? You will climb. Play worse? You will drop. As simple as that.

And NO, the placements are not the reason you are stuck in bronze/silver. If you are better than the other players at that rating, you will climb no matter what teams you get. If you cannot climb, you have to accept the fact that you belong to that rating. This might be very hard to accept but it is a fact. Just remember, you are not there forever. You can always improve. But only if you seriously look into improving.

Simple tips to improve generally:

- Do not blame your team mates for anything.
Blaming your team drops the win rate because they are very likely to respond that they did nothing wrong or with something you did wrong and completely lose focus of the game. In worst cases they can even go afk. You gain absolutely nothing positive by doing this.

- Record your games, look what you did well and what you should have done differently.
You left skyhammer, should you have gone far instead of close?
Should you have went to mid instead of close?
Should you have disengaged from a fight and at which point?
Could you have ressed a team-mate by using a specific skill?
Etc.
There are so many things that you can look for. The answer is not “i already know how to rotate, i am the best, all the others in my team are noobs”, you can always improve. You don’t always even feel like you have improved.

- Keep in mind that it is you that make the difference, not your team. This does not mean that you should be able to carry 4 bad team-mates, you just have to accept that the game did not go that well and move on. In the long run it does not matter.

- Lost a game? Move on. No one can maintain a 100% win ratio.

- Be friendly in chat. Not like “kittenING STOP GOING MID”, more like “Lets go far we cannot win mid”

- Friendly reminders about buffs.

- Use pings wisely. You can ping things like points about to be decapped by enemy, buffs before they spawn. Someone could have an intense fight and forget to look at the map. Do not spam pings and do not draw 20000 lines between mid and close only causing confusion.

- Use skills wisely, don’t just spam all skills and then wonder why you died.

But that’s the thing; I play DPS Warrior in PvP, and I do pretty well with it both in teamfights and in 1v1s. But if I go with my team to mid at the start of the match, 2 of them being noobs that literally die in 2 seconds flat and I’m left in a 2v4 against a support ele, a necro and 2 DHs, that is NOT a fight I’m capable of winning. It’s just not. And I know for a fact that once that happens, any teamfight I go into with one of those guys in it is going to be a blowout, as is any 1v1 they have. They won’t be able to fight people off points, they won’t be able to cap anything, they won’t contribute to teamfights or small scale fights, they’ll just die.

I also know they’re going to consistently run back to mid or run to far and jump into 1v3 to “distract people” or whatever the excuse is and feed points and spend most of the time running back and forth from spawn whilst the enemy team proceeds to outnumber us everywhere else. Or they’ll “guard” close and stand there doing nothing the entire game. You’re basically fighting 4v5 or even 3v5 the entire game, and if you’re playing against other people who actually know the basics, it’s impossible to win. The enemy team doesn’t even NEED to be as good as I am mechanically or in a 1v1 or whatever, as long as they know the basics of PvP, of rotating, of focusing targets, etc and can hold their own in a fight and not instadie, whilst you have weak players on your team that don’t, you’re constantly being outnumbered and that’s an incredibly difficult and frustrating uphill battle EVERY game. The matchmaker just seems to LOVE making games like that. It’s almost as if there’s actually an employee at Anet orchestrating all of it, HE’S the matchmaker, and he just takes delight in screwing people over.

These are some good points, and I agree that, while placements may be inaccurate, it is very possible to recover from a bad placement with dedication and skill.

I would add one more tip that I think is very important in being able to raise your ranking:

Play like you can win, regardless of the skill level of your teammates. You will not win every game and you can not carry every game, but as Nomad says, if you are better than the average player in the game, your win chance should be greater than 50%. If you get discouraged and give up and blame everything on your teammates, it is unlikely that you will be able to play at your best. This can result in a negative spiral in which you lose then get discouraged and that causes you to lose some more. If you can control your mental state, you should be able to perform at your best regardless of the state of the game. And that will lead to more wins.

The players that you described are not only on your team. In the long run it does not matter at all. If you cannot climb, you belong there where you are.

Meh, never said I was amazing at PvP, already said I have many areas that I can improve in, but I at least know simple things like rotations and focus targets. No matter how well I, individually, play in a game, if there are 2 or even just 1 person on my team that does not know ANY of the basics of PvP, and the other team doesn’t, the likelihood is that I’m going to lose that game, because it’s a TEAM game, so we all rely on eachother to pull our own weight. Sure you get some people that can carry games, but the other players on their team have to at least be able to contribute in SOME way to allow that to happen because whether you like it or not, you can’t win a team game alone.

As I said before, I often get games where 2 of my team will double cap close and leave us to lose a 3v4 at mid. I even had a game where 2 of my team rushed far and 2v1 the enemy team’s Engi for a good few minutes and LOST. Needless to say we got demolished that game. What, so you’re saying that me losing MMR from that game was because I, personally, wasn’t playing well? I can play better than others, but if my teams are made up of that kind of player, I’m not gonna climb, that’s just the way it is in team games. They’re called TEAM games for a reason, lol. I wouldn’t expect any good player to climb quickly if I went and rushed far and died repeatedly all game, or double capped close all game, or rushed into outnumbered fights all game, because me doing that is what loses matches. So no, I don’t agree with you.

If me losing is PURELY because I’ve reached a wall, and that the matchmaker is making fair games, and nothing to do with the matchmaker placing people with awful, uncarriable teammates, then explain this: There’s currently an ongoing topic in the forums in which Shaogin recorded the ratings of everyone in the games he lost. He went on loss streaks in which, on every occasion, the players on the enemy team had higher skill ratings than every single member of his team. Now please, explain to me how THAT is fair matchmaking, and how that doesn’t suggest to you that the matchmaking system is deliberately stacking better players against worse players to force wins/losses. Because I find it odd that every time I go on a small winstreak, a loss streak follows straight afterwards. That doesn’t sound quite right to me.
