Ranked single queue possible?
Im waiting for it too, since my friends are less likely to come back to this game and I left playing other games with them instead. However, I dont even know if ANet ever confirmed there will be solo queues… think it has mostly been a request from the community but not sure if it’s even something they want to do.
Hopefully one day, since this game need to get more pvp players… they lost so many. I do, however, think that it wont be available in this patch… so for us it’s try the new map in hotjoin and that’s about it.
I don’t think it’s coming this patch. Right now, they’re focusing on the new paid tournament format and introducing matchmaking for teams. They’ve said free tournaments are going to stay the same for now, so I’m guessing paids will stay team vs team, frees will stay team/random vs team/random.
The community has never really gotten behind it unfortunately…I think it’s the most important feature that Anet could add right now.
I really hope they add a ranked solo queue soon, I’ts getting kinda stale for us “casual” pvpers. I don’t really have time to get together with a team, but I really just want to play with people that are at my skill level and actually try to win instead of trying to get as many points as they can.

Yes I agree with what was said here.
All my PvP friends quit the game, and I’m having trouble getting them to even want to try the game again.
I’m thrilled that the paid tournaments are going to change for good. But I’m really bummed that free tournaments aren’t going to change yet.
For the Ranked system it vaguely mentions “after the match each players rankings will be adjusted”. That “sounds” like each player will have their own rating, rather than the team having a static rating. I really hope this means it can be solo queued.
Now that you don’t need 8 teams at a time, I don’t see why there would be any reason not to add solo queues now. You don’t need 40 people to queue for a specific game type, just 10.
Please solo queues! Even if it’s the same exact format with a completely separate rating, or even shared the rating if its easier to implement, I’d be more than happy!

I tend to have a circle of contacts I’m able to invite for paid/free tournaments so this isn’t a problem for me.
But it is my belief that this kind of feature would be the single best thing they could implement to get more people playing tPvP. Similar to how RA was always popping no matter what time or day one would queue. Even when I played GW1 a few months before the launch of GW2, it was popping non stop. And that’s several YEARS since GW1’s release.
Please make this happen.
It is my opinion that everyone would love strictly single queues into 5-mans, free, paid, rated or non-rated.
Every tournament style game that is out right now has something of this nature.
Hotjoins do nothing to prepare a player for tournament pvp. Especially when 8v8 isn’t the style for tournaments and the 5v5 maps tend to have 4v5 most of the time. On top of that, hotjoins allow for the leaving of games which further imbalance the teams. For me, hotjoins are meant to farm glory/rank or test out some new build at this point in the game. Nothing more. Free tournaments are horribly imbalanced due to the fact that a VOIP premade can fight non-voiped solo queuers.

I’m glad I’m not alone in this. Did they address this at all in the State of the Game? I just want to know yes or no, because if it’s a no for now I won’t be paying any attention to the game for another month or two.

The biggest blunder would be to keep 8v8 hotjoin and the stupid free tourneys. This will split up the players all over the place. Solo queue 1v1 team ranked needs to completely replace hotjoin and free tourneys. 8v8 NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY ABOLISHED
Until 1v1 solo ranked queue im simply not touching spvp. especially if glory remains meaningless

I agree completely. 8v8 is garbage, and free tournies just split the player base more. Both Jons during the SoTG mentioned that they would like to see glory not be as worthless though, so that’s a plus.
