I’m just hoping someone here can explain how the rating loss in Ranked works this season because I am seriously confused… I’ll try to explain the reason for my confusion as best I can, but if there’s anything else you need to know just ask.
Ok, so.. I finish my placement tonight and I’m not sure why, but it seems I got 26 points from the last placement game (thought I wouldn’t gain/loose any until after I was placed but whatevs)..
So I end up in Silver 3 with 1326 rating. That same game my friend (that got his placement yesterday I believe) gains 15 points so he’s now in Silver 2 with 1196.
We proceed to queue up together, and loose 3 games in a row. Now here’s where I get confused;
I loose 34, 30 and 29 rating for a total of 93 from these 3 games..
My friend looses 11, 10 and 11, which totals 32..
We’ve both played the same amount of games today (7 total, 4 first were placement games for me).
So my question is; why is there such a HUGE difference?! I feel like I’m losing rating as if I was in Gold or Plat and not just 1 tier higher in the same Division..
We’re playing the same games, loosing against the same people with the same rating.. I can’t get it to make sense.
I wish I could help, but i don’t get it either. Just playing for the fun, and improving myself. Some friends have lower winrate but are ranked higher, i’m just telling myself it is as it is.

This is the issue, because you queue placement games with people who are already placed. It means, people should wait to do placement games until everyone else’s volatility has settled down to where it should….then duo queue for placement games so you end up really high on the leader board….then just play once every few days.
Since in the beginning, everyone’s volatility will be high and playing placement game’s is like playing Russian Roulette and hoping RNGesus is on your side.

I was placed in lower gold, almost silver after placement. I have nearly 100% win rate after placements which means placement were beyond wrong. Now i have to grind like 1.5 division to where i used to be, which is not the issue but your rating gain decay hits pretty hard (went from 28 to 14 and i didn’t even hit plat yet) so by the time i get to my old rating i would gain like 2 ranks per win. You think this is ok?

If you actually played last season you know this stops at around +/- 10. (you start to lose more towards 15/20 when you approach top 100-ish).

I actually played last season and i did have matches that gave me 4 points for win… The player i duoq’d with even got 2 points sometimes….
