Please someone enlighten me on how can spectator mode/custom arenas be on higher priority than splitting solo queue from premade queue, tweeking mmr and a punishment system for leavers?

This is a game, its meant to have fun, and right now 60/70% of the games are not enjoyable and are just… frustrating! So whats the point of releasing a spectator mode? So we can watch others NOT having fun? Custom servers i can understand but, in my opinion, its still not as urgent as tweeking the current tournament system.
The amount of premades you face while pugging is TOO kitten HIGH! Your mmr formula is too volatile, a ransacker premade that lost 5 games in a row can easily be matched against a pug with rank 5s that won 3/4 games in a row. There is no way to quickly communicate with your team , quick commands like “x requests aid at the altar!”. When you loose a game you never get that “we did our best!” feeling. Its always “kitten this they’re premade”, “kitten this they’re full ransackers”, “kitten this we were just 4”…
And what worries me the most is that you only make updates of this stuff once every month, and since its not coming in the next patch, we’re likely to have another month and half of this! And this is assuming Spectator mode and CA are on this patch(the first mention of CA dates back to october, its been 6/7 months!)…
So i would really love an explanation on why spectator mode and CA are higher priority. Am i missing something?

My guess is that they have 2-3 pvp developers….which is pathetically depressing…anywhoo, I get the feeling they’ll focus on one thing and if other features or fixes crop up because of such a small team they want to finish that one thing before patch….think of it this way.

3 guys patch each month can only really focus on 1 or 2 things per patch…if they need to stop to fix an emergency then that screws up their entire end of month patch etc….Which for the record is the worst company decision of ever heard of but I honestly think thats whats happening.

^ and they NEED to change this if they want to continue making money. Hire more people to push features more to draw in more crowd….invest to gain profit.

Probably because they are near completion of custom arenas so they are working to get that done and like the other poster said they have way too little people working on the pvp team so they can’t really split tasks…

They will make money from custom arenas. That’s basically it.

They want custom arena’s for $$$, quite simply. I’m guessing those higher up in the chain of command have been asking ‘So we got pvp, why aren’t we making any money of it?! Work something out!‘. And thus, custom arena’s was born. It could be hit and miss for anet, but I know one thing – custom arenas wont mean anything if the game is not fun to play.

Spectator mode will be useful for those that can’t get sleep.

They want spectator mode because of esports. Somewhere in the other thread one of the devs has been talking about esports all the time and that they don’t want to make other game modes like deathmatch(without other objectives) because they were not esports observer friendly.

Lol. As if with spectator mode suddenly millions of people would start playing Guild Wars 2 as esports…

Money I expect. They need to get income from pvp so custom arenas seem their best bet.

Also custom arenas will be fun for pve guilds to enjoy. For serious pvpers it seems almost irrelevent unless some websites manage to organise monthly or weekly tournaments with prizes.

ugh.

Guys the custom arenas are a good thing if they implement them correctly (fingers crossed). Here is why…

One of the biggest complaints that has been persistent since launch is the “Conquest only” nature of PvP. Custom arenas will afford the opportunity to play the game in different “modes” if it is done correctly, and A-net should be able to gather statistical data on how these matches are set up and then better respond to what the community is finding most enjoyable.

Yes, the customs are there so A-net can make money. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, I’d be more upset if they weren’t trying to turn a profit, because that would meant that this game would disappear. Turning a profit (specifically on the PvP community) and producing the features/content that we really want are not mutually exclusive. They are mutually dependent. I’m sure splitting que will be on their agenda as soon as they have devs available to work on it. Perhaps they will even allow a “Soloque only” option on custom servers.

If this will take several more months as it looks right now, there will be no need for split queues any more. The player base in pvp will be to low to support two different queues.

if custom arenas cost money for all parties involved it won’t fly. my guild does spvp for fun every friday. we do stuff like necros vs. guards, thieves vs. eles etc. and we use the lobby. we all want custom so we don’t get 1 or 2 random peeps in our matches. if everyone had to throw down money to do it? wouldn’t happen. people weren’t paying money for paid tourneys, i don’t see people paying for what amounts to a practice space that we had for free in gw1(AKA Guild Halls).

It seems like it’s company policy that whatever is most requested, must be put on hold so features a minority enjoy can be worked on instead.

Seems like this game is a dev or two short in several areas of the game.

Hate to be the one to break the news to you this late, but costom arenas have always been intended as a gem store item. They will cost money, or a ridiculous number of gems. That is all there is to it.

If custom arena’s aren’t “knock your socks off” revolutionary for this game.
It’s dead.

Kind of the bottom line, their priority list only matters so much.
At some point they have to release something WELL MADE that largely changes current instanced PvP, they literally have to to do make custom arenas glorious,
if it took a year~ to just get around to making leaderboards + custom arenas… they are going to have literally no one left playing instanced PvP by the time they get around to their next addition. This seems to be their only shot at making GW2 anything but a massive show of “what not to do” when making a PvP focused MMO.

It is a nice lil deadline though at least, finally something that will just nail or carry GW2s fate, something besides the words “soon” from a dev to base my hopes of this game on.
