It’s been said before, but here it is again… People should not be encouraged via daily achievements to play a specific class in a competitive game mode. Not only does it have a negative effect on the overall class proficiency in the queue, but it also screws up team comps, pretty much all day every day.

Please remove profession dailies from Ranked.

It’s not Anet’s fault there’s crappy people out there that decide to play ranked pvp on a class they don’t know.

The dailies should be consistent across all forms of pvp—hotjoin, unranked, and ranked. A player who mains, say, an Ele should not have to do both an unranked/hotjoin and a ranked match if he or she wants to play ranked and it happens to be ele day.

But it is Anet’s fault that it’s encouraged. No matter how you look at it, Anet is complicit.

I don’t really disagree with you on this.
Perhaps the best option is to remove profession-based PvP achievements altogether.

I can’t say they’re really encouraging players to play classes they’re unfamiliar with in league games, that’s pretty much the whole point of hotjoin and unranked.

This boils down to a kittenty player base.

Sure you could say that. Players are encouraged to play specific professions for any game type. I blame the player base for making poor decisions as well, but Anet absolutely is complicit and absolutely could do something to end it.

And don’t forget the other complaint, that it screws with team comps. Whether the player is proficient are not, nobody wants to play ranked matches in which half the players are using the same class. It’s absurd.

As for “the whole point of hotjoin and unranked,” I thought you didn’t want players to have to use two different game types to get the achieves. You’re contradicting yourself.

To me at least there’s a difference between
I have no idea what I’m doing, so I’ll (willfully/knowingly) force other players to deal with my incompetence in a timed competitive event with penalties for losing
and
I play several classes decently well. Today’s [X] class day, I’m decent with [X] class, I’ll play that instead of my main [Y] class so I don’t have to take time out of league to run a quick hotjoin

The first results in blowout games and the guy not finishing the daily anyway while (intentionally/willfully/knowingly) screwing over other people. The second doesn’t.

The difference?

I understand your point and agree with you. I’d never try to get Rev daily in ranked cos I’m rubbish at it. I wouldn’t do Ele now either, cos it’s weak as. Wouldn’t even do Engi atm even though I’m decent at it, cos I’m not fully confident I’d play it as well as or better than the next guy.

But not everyone goes in with the same standards for themselves. I’d say most don’t, though of course that’s speculation. We can blame it on the players as much as we’d like, but that doesn’t negate Anet’s complicity by actively encouraging people to do it.

And you’re still ignoring the fact that it influences class stacking to an absurd degree.

The main point is that these blowout games can be reduced in Ranked. Anet could easily make dailies the same structured for every class only you get the achievement just once.

Remove daily profession winner altogether. Problem sort of solved. You will still get people trying new things in ranked, just less of it.

Replace with;
-Win 1 match.
-Win 2 matches.
Done. Same amount of time just not including the professions.

Kitten.

Since GW2 is targeted to PvE players (and I think they’re responsible for the issue) and focused on their needs, actually dailies encourage them to visit arenas at all. Otherwise a big amount of them wouldn’t head to arenas. PvP players as a minority as usual are suffering from that.

Yes, it is Anets fault for encouraging to play specific classes, but it is no different than the class win achievements for the seasons

Kind of. But the League Professional achievement only requires you to be proficient in three classes, which isn’t really all that demanding, at least not by comparison. With daily, eventually you’re going to have to play with almost every profession to get them every day. It requires a lot of time and effort to be able to play almost every class very well. And even then you’re going to favor a few classes over the others, so you’re still encouraged to play classes that you wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) pick for Ranked Arena. Every player should be doing their absolute best in a Ranked match, not sacrificing their contribution to the team in exchange for a chance at a daily reward.

I never liked League Professional; but, as related as it may seem, it’s an entirely different topic, so let’s move on from that here.

I don’t look at this so much as a “PVP players vs PVE players” issue. There are plenty of ways for PVEers to get their dailies done without ever stepping foot in arenas. As for the achievement rewards, they’re not terribly enticing for the most part. There are much faster ways to get the loot they want in PVE (unless we’re talking Legacy skins or something).

I digress. My point is: nobody, regardless of their experience in PvP, should be encouraged to do any less than their best in Ranked Arena. Yet people are encouraged to do so on a daily basis. We’re 4 years into the game, why is this still a thing?
