Some classes are better at running Orbs, sure. I run them frequently as my Warrior using Shield 5 and Stances. But just because some classes can run them better doesn’t mean a map with a somewhat unique mechanic ( in regards to GW2 ) should be completely put out of rotation.

There’s no one class to rule them all, and all have their strengths and weaknesses. I’m just going to chalk this one up there with it being “too hard” for the casualness of Guild Wars 2.

That is terrible news. You should add more maps like courtyard so that the entire game doesn’t revolve around who can bunker better. Or better yet, add another PvP game mode. A lot of people are bored of conquest and are moving on.

Why remove them only from Ranked? Why not remove them also from Unranked?

Unranked should be the practice place before entering Ranked, and therefore have the same features as Ranked.

Same thing as with Standard Models.

Moreover, since MMR develops itself in the same way in Ranked as in Unranked; having different features from one queue to the other, would mean differen MMR development in one queue as in the other.

My ranger has almost not AOE. The elite is on 45 second cooldown. I got 2 boons avaliable (swiftness and RNG protection).

Guess what? I love the map. I get lots of kills, i can stay alive almost the entire match unless i get locked and focused by all 5 enemies.

Courtyard make you realize that a build is only going to carry you so far, because once you try using a build not specifically the way it was designed, unless you are a really good player, you will die.

I don’t understand why you aren’t just moving out of the aoe? There isn’t a point that you have to sit on. Your argument would make more sense if you were arguing against conquest.

I am somewhat glad this was done.
I like the courtyard and all, but that’s maybe because I always win. Spirit Watch is another unconfy map sometimes, when people just keep scoring and scoring when there’s nothing you can do about it.

I like both maps. But this may be for the better.

Remove it from unranked also, today we got a team of thieves that kill one of us and then stealthed trough the whole thing.

I dont mind this cheese in hotjoin, but if its gonna make me waste 10 min on a worthless fight…yeah, it sucks big time.

So pls remove this HIGHLY EXPLOITABLE map from unranked as well, sadly some people ruin pvp for the rest of us with this kind of crap

I don’t want to play ranked but I want to avoid Courtyard, Skyhammer (and to a lesser extent, Spirit Watch) even more than I dislike playing ranked.

Courtyard would be fine in an arena where the other possible maps were also kill count, or if Conquest was similar in the builds and play styles to what works in Courtyard but that’s not the case.

It’s not a problem with Courtyard nor is it a problem with Deathmatch (although several years of combat system design and class balance intended for Conquest being wedged into Deathmatch is problematic), it’s a problem when you group maps together that cater to very different builds. Players who are prepared for and build their class and team for a Conquest map are wedged into a map that is bad for their team play and build style.

Conquest has some other problems (spawn camping, the ease of winning once one team gets the upperhand etc) and I think ArenaNet’s metrics probably show that. Almost every one of my Courtyard matches ends with one team destroying the other. It has to be one of the biggest red flags that this map isn’t for even for unranked.

I loved Random Arenas but the map pool design and the game’s balance supported that format in a way that is stronger than what I see with GW2 and Courtyard.

there is nothing wrong with Courtyard. learn to adjust your skills/builds appropriately for the map, it is not a typical conquest build.
biggest issue i see in courtyard from people is that they make no attempt to rez downed teammates. they’ll flock like flies to a slaughter to stomp someone but god forbid they rez a teammate.

but i still do think that you would better serve the community by creating more and better TDM style maps, then giving TDM a separate queue all together. and make it a solo only queue. i will guarantee you that you will increase the size of the pvp community.

I have only 1 complaint about the courtyard map:

My team was made of 5 randoms, which is ok. The enemy team was 5 made to order, which included 3 thieves, all with Shadow Refuge. They stealthed around for the first few minutes of the match, scored 1 kill on a player in our team and then stealthed out the clock, alternating their SR’s to stay hidden.

It was clever, but for the receiving end, we all had to endure waiting out the clock with literally nothing we could do, and none of us wanted to get dishonour by quitting and requeing.

I found this to be a disappointing experience in an otherwise fabulous pvp game.

edit: Abraxadrian (above poster) might well have been a team mate of mine.

Yeh the aoe complaint is laughable. I love courtyard and it was a nice change having it in ranked so I am disappointed.

I havent experienced this thief trolling yet tho, and I could see how painful that would be. Anet will have to do something about that.

I have only play courtyard once, and well, the match was very unbalanced, but that may have been due to the skill level and/or classes brought to the table. we were just camped under their spawn point killing them. I wonder if being able to have multiple spawn points would make it better/more interesting, or be able to flip spawns when you die right under your spawn location to many times.

I like deathmatch, and I hope they bring more maps to it. I would keep them medium to small maps, as large maps can get a bit boring because fights wouldn’t happen to often, and when thats all the game type is based on, well yeah. more fights = more entertainment, both from a spectator view and player view.

IM SO HYPED FOR HOT I CAN FLIP A TABLE.

Remove it from the game please. If you’ve ever played pvp in your leisure time and not for doing """balance""" work then you’d know that usually organized teams and guilds contest against unorganized ones.
When I first heard of the map I thought it’s going to be a small scale death match 2v2 for example. However, I forgot that gw2 severly punishes solo game play and that anything out of the 5+ player groups is outrageous and should not be tolerated.
Back to the topic though, the Courtyard map is imbalanced as kitten and should at least not be chosable in unranked, so that those who go to pvp with their friends with Teamspeak and so on cannot abuse the map to win.

But hey we all know how bad Arenanet is with balancing pvp, so it will not happen ever. Or they’ll simply “work on it”

Actually, if you had played more MMOs you’d realize that GW2 is very balanced in comparison to most MMOs. And as such Anet are doing a great job and simply telling them they’re bad at it is uncalled for. Of course balance isn’t perfect, I can think of a number of issues that chafe and the frequency of balance patches is unacceptable in and of itself. But the recent turret change gives me hope for the future.

I like courtyard. There just needs to be more controls for arenas and incentive to join arenas over ranked. If that happens I would probably play courtyard alot more. Great for 2v2-4v4 etc.

dont worry bud, all my pals who multi class like it too. ele, necro, mesmer, guard, ranger all of these classes rock in courtyard. only class that fails is thief. had some of my best games queued with a pal on zerk necro and another on cele staff ele.

yeah, i play engi and warrior and i run tough builds with loads off cc. it’s just what i like, been playing both of classes since beta. i like rifles, hammers, leaps, explosions, healing my allies, and stunlocking people. i would play them regardless of if they were meta or not, not that i even run the meta builds (i learnt them, but prefer my own).

using group heals and condition clear on cooldown because your team needs it is a good idea bud. yeah, so maybe i do ‘spam’, maybe i am constantly using skills, but i’m not doing it mindlessly. guildwars 2 is a fast active game, especially the engineer class which needs constant skill use to be the most effective. i don’t know why you would expect me not to use shouts on cd if my team has condis and are not all full health. lets use throw mine as an example: it has an 18sec cd and AOE knockbacks and rips one boon. i often use this skill on cooldown, or almost on cooldown because i can get good use out of it every 18 or so seconds. if i can get good use out of a skill i’m gonna use it, plus the faster i use it the faster i can use it again.

as for supcrate on cooldown, nah dude only scrubs do that. it’s a big AOE stun with area denial. amazing for securing stomps, interrupting them, securing ground in a fight, and many other things. you wanna get use out of that 180sec cd.

Engi and warrior are nothing special in Courtyard. Everybody usually stays together and turrets go down quick or just get ignored. Both classes need to be in close range to do decent burst damage and they have poor downed abilities for courtyard. They need to play a support role or else they will drag down their team.

Most of the other classes are almost impossible to kill as they can teleport, mist away or do crazy damage in downed state. Ele can do heavy AoE damage/healing. Necro can run away in death shroud and do killer damage in downed state. Mesmers are almost impossible to keep track of and their illusions make it hard to focus players in such a crowded environment. Rangers can do insane burst damage from a distance and have their pets revive downed people and themselves..ect….ect. I’ll admit that engi and war do work well together but courtyard favors classes that can get away, do heavy burst from a distance and have decent downed abilities as its a lot easier to get a rez in courtyard then any other map.

Courtyard is a really great change of pace from conquest. I have had some very fun games there, and some incredibly frustrating ones.

Many, not all of the bad ones were a result of a player on one of the teams afk ing and ruining the experience for everyone else.
It is important for players to respect that some players like or dont like certain content. I respect that some people dont like courtyard. I do I will vote for it in map selection. I wont quit or ruin a match because I dont get the map I voted for or a map I dont like. I think it is childish and selfish.

If you dont get the map you voted for, just try. Have a good time, and perhaps you will get the map you want in the next game.

Don’t vote for it then. I like the map and think there should be more DM maps in rotation.

Heck i don’t like skyhammer, spirit watch or foefire but suck it up if they’re voted for.

Great News, thanks. Spirit Watch and Courtyard are just about zerging, not my cup of tea. Skyhammer is just too easy for Rangers.

Courtyard and Spiritwatch are why I won’t queue unranked.. though I used to have a lot of fun on Skyhammer before it turned into exploit wars 2.

I dont know, Spirit Watch though, I actually like it. Alot of ability to use teleports around the map. You have to choose who runs the orb and play a class good for that.

You also have to fight for the orb and cap all at the same time. Usually having two run the back and then the rest fight over the orb has always seemed to do well when I play that map.

Courtyard on the other hand, I would be happy if that just went to custom arenas only and if people want to play TDM there they can in their custom arena.

Courtyard is entirely too situational. Just yesterday, three thieves on my team, two Power Necros on theirs. Liches were killing us like flies.

Also I play a thief, and I would rather have longer queues for thieves only than have more than 2 thieves on any given team. (But I dont speak for all thieves there.)
