Rent your own sever (Is It for Real Money? )
Yes, both of the features talked about in the blog post are for real money.
It makes sense to me why ANet would go down this path, and from a F2P MMO model why this is a good choice for ANet and it’s players. And for clarification it will cost in-game Gems which are purchasable with real money or Gold which is earned by playing the kitten game.
eSports will thrive because elite private servers will emerge and people will prepare for the next sPvP patch. Guild Wars 2 will probably grow as a game because the guys that come back to try it after dominating are now caught up in the meta.
Im sorry, where does it say rent custom servers with gems ? Maybe i missed something.
They haven’t said how you pay for the servers officially yet. It is speculated that it will work via gems. Gems would make sense in many ways, it offers players a way to pay either real money, or in game money, and PvP only players can earn gems via paid tournaments.
Gems make sense with the choice of them giving gems to paid tournament winners. I’m betting on gems. This would be the best choice as I have them coming out of the wazoo thanks to my casual gold farming operation in pve.
I’m going to guess it will be by gems, although it hasn’t been specified yet. My concern isn’t with how it costs since gems or gold it can all be translated the same way, simply 2 different money markets that fluxuate; my concern is with the cost of these servers. If I rent one for say 6 hours I’d like it to cost less then a day and if I were to rent one for a week I’d want it to cost less then 7 individual days would. Hopefully anet is smart about pricing to allow for these servers to exist on a permanent basis if people choose (much like servers on other games work) while also allowing for short term rental.
My guild currently runs a weekly pvp get together and I would be more then willing to spring for a server for 6 hours or so, so long as the price point isn’t over the top, and I can get rid of the raid on the capricorn map.
