the enemy starts walking sideways and half of its burst misses or just run a bit farer and out of range. and if you have sword instead of scepter they will kite you forever while their regen keep them up. that 1 teleport on it wont help when they just teleport blink clone jump away….

i switched from scepter to sword focus buuuut againts good people they will kite you forever while you loose allot of dmg when you could just simply auto attack spam with scepter for 600+ dmg + burn while runing after them.

Conquest meta?? Have you played it in any mode?? One thing is sure it might be only melee weapon but your utilities are probably not 10-30% melee. Range will always be present I don’t see why the hate, d/d is a “melee” set ele uses it… Rev is getting melee staff…

the sad thing is in this game you cant have pure melee because you dont have enought action bars for a melee class to place ALL that capclosers/mobility/Surviability skills a melee needs to be pure melee. you need to switch to a ranged weapon to get the other half of mobility and capclosers and even dmg a melee needs.

thank god Revenant changing that with legend swaping. Without breaking the immersion of playing a melee class.

There are no melee professions. And none of the professions are forced into ranged weapons. It just so happens that for a lot of builds, ranged weapons provide the best complement to melee weapons. Would you consider d/d elemenalist a melee build?

Don’t use sword #3 on guardian for damage. The DPS difference between guardian sword #3 and the auto-attack chain is negligible.

There are no melee professions. And none of the professions are forced into ranged weapons. It just so happens that for a lot of builds, ranged weapons provide the best complement to melee weapons. Would you consider d/d elemenalist a melee build?

aaand thats my issue with this game.

elementalist is not the same he still uses Magic of the elements no matter of the weapon that’s what defines them

then comes a warrior and its prety much forced into a Bow yep nice melee there.
and againts good players guardian sword will get kited to oblivion.

i call this whole weapon switching system “The immersion breaking system”

You can play full melee in wvw as well as full ranged but in conquest it’s not recommended, what is a melee weapon to you?? Necro d/d has 4/5 skills ranged , mesmer GS has all skills ranged. Don’t be blinded by the physical aspect of the weapon, only reason that would work on rev is due to utility swap but those are not full melee neither are the weapons skills.

I can only see one full in conquest turret engi with hammer complete bunker decap also I run Hammer/GS in TDM with guard.

Edit: Where does it say war or guard are pure melee at the core? The same for ranger with range??

They said themselves somewhere the Revenant is sort of a “brawler” class, even reflected in the traits such as ones that reduce damage taken beyond 600 range and so on. It somewhat will be, but inevitably it will also have some ranged options. But unlike anyone else, it will likely be made to be the most viable “melee only” pvp class otherwise many weapon sets will be useless.

Another thing to keep an eye out on: Hammer Engineer. And Sword Ele.

thats the prob people that want to play Pure melee CAN’T but people that want to play pure ranged CAN even if it has a realy minimal melee in it its not 50% of it. and they are meta.

Have you tried a double Melee ranger? GS+ Sword/dagger? It works great! Pop hydromancy sigils and use muddy terrain to keep on enemies. Sword auto also has a cripple on it, in addition to being a leap chain- no one will get away from you with MH sword. You also have dagger 5, it’s a ranged cripple to catch up to fleeing prey. Both weapon sets have a gap closer, and both evade spam.

Only ranged builds that are close to meta in pvp are terror necro and staff ele those are not optimal for conquest,engi uses Bomb and Tool Kit. Again you can play full melee in wvw even out of zerg and be good even thief. Conquest will not allow it the way you want but yeah revenant might be the class you want or the closest PvP wise.

Most of the warrior roamer builds for WvWvW are pure melee. The ONLY reason why the longbow is used in conquest so heavily is because it’s F1 skill can cover the entire point and the weapon can spam generate might making the melee attacks even stronger. Pure melee on a warrior is completely viable and pretty strong, it’s just that the ability to consume the ENTIRE point in your AoE while building AoE might for your team and curing conditions off you is really powerful in that game mode.

Nerf the longbow’s damage radius or ability to reliably remove conditions and I’m sure you’d see a rise in hammer/mace warriors who can stunlock someone for eternity or hammer/greatsword burst builds with strong crowd control.

So to sum it up, GW2 is still a melee heavy game. The longbow is just too good at stacking might and curing conditions while keeping enemies off the point.
