“I’d like to make it very clear that this reset does not mark the end of an official ‘season’, and as such, we will not be rewarding players for leaderboard placement. I know that this may be a tough pill to swallow for our more hardcore players, but we hope you understand our reasoning behind this.”
- Josh Davis
Dear anet, ncsoft, developers, what ever
First of all, i want to point out that my following argumentation will be based on
my assumption that those who do play PvP don’t only play for the sake of playing.
They somehow want to compare their skill level to other players -become better- and have proof that they’ve improved.
Therefore rewards are unavoidable, because you can’t compare your recent skill levels when someone (oh hey mr davis and all the other ones :D ..)
suddenly deletes your matches history.
It would be better to get a reward; something that proves which skill level you’ve played at
It’s all about the progress, I think you’d all agree that people would not play any PvE without any form of progress in terms of skins, titles, achievement points.
That’s why all the new events (which i actually liked) reward you with some sort of unique stuff; they make your account unique.
Concerning PvP there has been very little visible progress so far, except for the (invisible) improvement in skill!
You could decide whether you want to go hotjoin and farm your rank (sounds like no fun for me – but there are actually people who like it)
or spend your time on climbing the leaderboard, which is where i spend my time and effort at.
So to sum it up, what makes my account unique for me is my leaderboard-placement.
And now i see, that everything i’ve achieved so far will be deleted, cause some mistakes have been made.
So i personally feel like noone cared about the investments the competitive pvp-community did, and all their efforts have been ignored.
If they really know how to play, they will climb the ladder again" – that’s what someone wrote in a forumpost recently.
And well it’s true for sure, BUT i think everyone would agree it would extremely annoying to repeat the same work over and over again
if you know there will be someone who will negate it. ((Like when you are trying to build a house of cards, and someone simply keeps knocking it over – you wouldn’t start again more than one time)
What i’m saying is why should I keep playing ranked matches when Anet simply resets the leaderboard when they feel like doing it, when i don’t get anything that reminds me of all the effort that i’ve put in getting a high place on there.
I highly question the argumentation that they don’t give any rewards cause it’s not “end of season” because there is no season at all.
There will be no season after this reset either, so the next reset will also be without reward.
Question: Why don’t they wait until they finally manage to get some rewards into the game?
Or maybe simply give some rewards to make the leaderboard reasonable, any reward would be fine…
I agree that any titles would not be that meaningful, but who cares – People still put effort in it,
to improve at the current version of the game.
And all in all, the stronger players did finish at better rankings. (flame inc D: – just have a look at the leaderboards – oh wait they will be gone D:)
When the rankeds get reset there will be literally no difference (for me) between all those pvp accounts; everything that made
my account unique will be taken away.
So the question is: Why should you keep playing till there is an official announcement, saying that there won’t be any
reset anymore? (this feels totally like beta for me – i hate beta tests!).
This is the reason that the competitive PvP-community decreases every day (I don’t even need my second hand to count all these teams).
To sum up, i can see that some people might want this reset to happen, cause they might be “stuck” at lower rankeds due to syncs – op builds and so on.
(Eventhough i don’t think this kind of “elohell” does exist – just keep playing).
But there should definately some sort of reward for the effort stronger players put into their placement, like all the other approved MMO’s have.
P.S. You might ask why does this raging kid keep playing then, omgwtflolbbq ?!
It’s because i’m playing with the greatest PvP team i’ve ever had here, and it would be a shame to leave them just because i’m disappointed by the game we are playing.
(though i’m pretty sure they feel the same :P)
Regards,
Oops Kekzz
