If you have stability you’re immune to the self-knockback.
Nah it’s not stab, same thing has happened to myself and others I’ve talked to.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
control effects override eachother, maybe someone dazed you and the daze made it look like you didn’t knock yourself back.

the self-knockback is treated as it’s own skill effect and as such can be negated via stability, aegis, blind (when the stars align), etc.

You were probably feared and gained stab from the passive trait. Though it did happen once to me in a 1v1 vs an ele. I thought I got dazed right after I used it tho.
Still not understanding. No stab, no daze, nothing. 100% cc-free knockback without stab. It’s happened many times to myself and others I have talked to, like I said.
It’s got to be some combination of skills used or something weird like that.
EDIT: No not feared….seriously CC-free. Nothing happened after I knocked them back, just went right at them.

Maybe you used your knockback then swapped weapons ? weapon swap can interrupt almost every cast (including eviscerate and ranger sword auto attack).
I know engis can’t swap weapons but maybe equipping kits has a similar effect.
Nope. It has to do with a way you swap your kits/weapon or something. I did not have stability and the enemy also didn’t negate the knockback.

I just did it again 1v1ing another engi. Knocked him back without knocking myself back.

I have many issues with magnet, jump shot and net shot.
Magnet: many times when i pull a guy , it doesn’t work (the guy is horizontal in his original position) or there is only an half pull (the guy is pulled far from me)
Net shot: many times there are obstrucutred message and i have the enemy in los 100%
Jump shot: many time it doesn’t work and the jump doesn’t start.
I dunno if it’s a server problem, lag problem, connection problem etc. but i think teleport and projectiles have some issues after the patch.

so you can actually blind/block a knockback coming from the rifle you have in your own hands? god i love anet’s logic
my new hypothesis is that you were blinded the moment you used your overcharged shot but the blind wore off before the projectile actually connected.
Kit swapping does not cancel out the knockback, i can confirm this after an intense test session.

I can almost guarantee you I was not blinded by the engi because I was able to get off my rotation before he used any skill

I main engi and I’ve only seen it happen once. Compared to all the times Magnet or a knockback skill is used and the enemy rubberbands back to their initial position, this is a non-issue.

Yeah the rubberband is an issue but that is the case with a lot of things that cause the Z-axis to be put into effect. The knockback thing is gamebreaking if the engi is 1v1ing someone or just trying to cc lock someone. Its happened at least 7 times for me. If someone managed to replicate this everytime, welcome to bug wars 2 again.
