Right-click targeting re-enabled
Fast to bring back useless and unwanted functions. Slow to fix gamebreaking bugs.

Please remove this “feature” anet.
Ugh,,, I thought they have done a good job by removing this but now,,, lose all credibility…GG

I was so cool as it was removed. Why it is back ?
Turns out my GW2’s PvP vacations will be longer than anticipated. Switching target to clones, phantasms and minions during a fight just because I happen to navigate camera with right mouse button is unacceptable.
Please remove this “feature” anet.
/Agreed
ya so gw2 pvp is basically a bad arena brawler now, so y not play a game thats designed to be that, but well?
anet, please explain us how you intend to make an esports level game with this kind of decisions?
Page 12 & 13 is their “reasoning” for this mess.

Apparently it was a fix to allow spectators to r`click someone to follow them or similar.
Anyone else get the feeling that Anet don`t know wtk they`re doing at the worst of times?

Of all the bugs to fix, you chose this one? You guys really know your trolling.
I was testing the temporary fix as it was online, it was rather strange, they disabled the right click targeting of “enemy Players”. Targeting of minions/pets/clone or your allies with RightClick was still possible…
I thought this was a mistake when I first saw it in notes.
Anet dev says keys are for turning, left mouse is for skill clicking, right mouse is for targeting. Deal with it.
Did a dev really say that or are you just joking? Thats breaking two of the cardinal rules in pvp. Might as well go for the trifecta and make the “s” key unable to be remapped so we can backpedal as much as possible..
I hope you were just joking.

It is believable, I`ve seen some of them play live & they even click /cringe

This is unbelievable. At least give us the option to disable it. Who cares what spectators want. Its about the players playing that matter. Get your stuff together ANET.
What is the big deal here. It only targets if you click it fast or do not move the cursor at all. Holding RMB down and moving the cursor slightly will remove the cursor from the screen and then if you release it, still supposedly on top of the enemy it wont target that enemy.
So how can you move the camera if you do not move the cursor? or how do you move it in a time period of few milliseconds?
Video where i hold the RMB down and move my camera to the side and then back and then i release RMB : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/18485762/RMB%20Camera.wmv
Tested on the bots, dummies, friendly players and hostile players.

So you are telling me that during all the hours of your spvp play you have used the right mouse to turn and you have never ever accidently targeted another player or pet? Not one single time? I guarantee it has happened to you at least once and one time is too many. Its not necessary and its second rate. I guess another angle to come at this from is what would it hurt to give us the ability to disable targeting with right mouse button if we wanted to? And the answer is it would hurt nothing to give us that option. I don’t undestand the knee jerk defense mechanism some people have for A-net this is minor league any way you slice it imo.

Hello,
I see some people do not like this feature, but I do actually like it.
I use it all the time as in pve.
During those last 2-3 days I was not motivated at all to play PvP correctly because of this. I was just lauching my spell leaving the game select an ennemy for me and not bothering at all, could be the pet or the hunter or a mesmer phantasm instead of the player … I was not bothering at all.
I always use the right click to select the right target initiate an attack while starting to cast a spell.
So even if I sometimes accidentally selected an ennemy instead of rotating (which I do not remember ever happen), for the whole rest of the games I find it so practical that this small issue is not even an issue for me.
But yes an option would be great so everybody is happy. In my case it will be on

No i havent have it happen atleast i havent seen it happen maybe it has happened. I play with Rmb held down almost 24/7 the only reason to me is to release it to target someone.
However the option to make the right mouse button not have any effect on targeting whatsoever is a good idea.
Maybe an option to make it target only when double clicked?
Same for left click, so i could target someone whilst moving my camera, by double clicking the left mouse button rather than just clicking it once.
Or to go even deeper have left mouse button target when clicked once but if right mouse button would be held down it would take two clicks, this would allow me to once again move the camera whilst targetting. These things would have to be all options so it wouldnt affect people who dont want it to affect them.

Well it was good while it lasted..:(
Bumping for injustice. Explain yourselves, devs.

Should’ve listed this title as “[BUG] Right click targets enemy”! But seriously, an option would be nice or maybe just separate the controls for players versus spectators? I know as a developer it’s nice to reuse code, but…-shrug-

Look I didn’t mean to come off rude I was just trying to point out that if there is a feature many people want with no drawbacks they should implement it. It seems like a no brainer to me. Its not even close to gamebreaking to me but It does happen that it occassionally causes me to mis-target. Maybe I’m just not good enough. But every time this subject comes up there are plenty of people that don’t like how it is currently.

Their latest response…..
“Disabling right-click to attack/interact is certainly the safest approach to this issue. There are two problems, though. Anytime you have camera-look and targeting on the same input, you will have conflicting behavior. There isn’t a bug that targets are randomly selected, but rather the game trying to be smart at recognizing clicks versus camera movement. Even when you think you’re perfectly clicking on a target, most of the time you’re also moving the camera a tiny, tiny bit. There is a small threshold that determines whether your tiny movement should actually be a target selection. Lowering this threshold will reduce the chances of this happening, but is one of those numbers where we need to sit on it for a while to see if it ‘feels right’. The problem could also be solved by completely separating the different functionality of selection, auto-attacking, and camera movement. However, this is not something we’re prepared to work on at the moment as it is a much broader-reaching change. I hope this helps clear up what’s happening and what steps we’ll take to change it. Thank you again for all the feedback!”

I always thought it would be cool to have a cross-hair and make tab target the closest enemy in your cross-hair, because at the moment tab targeting is completely useless. Having to use the mouse to adjust the camera so you can maintain LOS with enemies and having to use it to target enemies at the same time is extremely tedious, especially in WvW.
