They should think about the balance process in general. They are sitting together and try to find some good ideas. But instead they should use the forum and the community. Many great players are available. They should start an open discussion and communicate the ideas and listen to feedback.
I am going to post a seperate thread about the concerns, miscommunitations and general view of the developers from the community’s standpoint as they are out of touch, but for now I will help a brother out by clarifying his point;

This is where I have to draw a line and say that what we, Necromancers, got after 6 months is just plain awful. We got the same builds, of which one of them requires to survive via passive procs (Reaper’s Protection and Runes of the Nightmare), and a Power option that has been outclassed by many power builds within the game – without any changes that will incentify us to change our builds accordingly to make them fit a role better.
Changes were made, this much I will give you, but most of them are not regarded useful or do not have the desired effect we wanted.
You’ve also hidden nerfs from us untill patch-day which we would’ve been able to give feedback on if they were stated earlier – this has created a deep feeling of betrayal, think of Plague Form which has lost it’s toughness
Well of Blood also fits within this; the nerf was completely uncalled for and random. It is a healing skill that was already undervalued within the Necromancer’s community, and has only made it worse.When you peform an action and cast Deathshroud after it will interrupt the skill
This will sadly not allow us to create new builds which could benefit from it, think when stomping and ressing with Foot in the Grave – which is sad, considering it would change a lot for the general combat within the game.
Now i can interact when in DS , to bad that going into death shroud after interacting with something still interrupts the action.There is a consistent bug within the game which has not been fixed as well; When your lifeforce depleted and you proc Plague Form directly after, you will be kicked out immediately – Latency issue or not, this is just awful and should be fixed
Unholy Sanctuary also did nothing for build diversaty, as it is still incredibly underwelming
The only positive things are the changes to Spectral Armor/Last Gasp and Dagger Cleave, but neither of these are worth a 6 months wait

Necro is more than fine at the moment. It is one of the strongest classes in my opinion, especially in SoloQ. In TeamQ, I think it depends on how much condi removal the opposing team has.
I would agree and disagree at the same time… I will hopefully finish my essay about the underlying concerns and problems with the class in general – both as Necromancer, as well as an enemy facing one…
There are problems which needs to be looked at, but not just that, there also needs to be an understanding as to why a lot of people who play Necromancer are disattisfied, or downright angry….

just fyi: plageu still gives toughness, and lich probably still precision, but all transform stat chaneg sare no longer shown, so you ahve to do etsting to find out what tehy increase, which is rather stupid tbh

Both power and condi necro meta builds are pretty strong. Ofc there is room for some changes but overall necro is in a good state. Biggest buff to necro must be some of the nerfs to other professions. I wish people would stop blaming balance when the issue apparently is player skill.

Me:The main reason why Necromancers uniformally got kittened off is because nothing has changed… Not for the better in combat for Necromancers, as well as the enemy… We deal with passives, underlying class issues that do not help us surviving, have an entire traitline working against our class mechanic and are generally just going into a spiral of disappointment after disappointment…
Necromancer’s are in a “nice” spot in terms of play, but in terms of balancing and getting it to work “differently” we are quite stuck…

Actually, it is not that huge… It is a nice buff, that’s all, but not enough to make this true:
Our focus for necromancers in this balance update has been on improving their survivability through utilities and traits as well as improving the overall effectiveness of their melee and skirmishing weapons.
If Protection and Lifeforce income for 6 seconds when hit equals "(…) your utility skills have been updated to provide more survivability over time. ", then I am really quite disappointed overal…
Again, it did not make us “worse” but it certainly did not “help us” much – and neither the enemy who has another 6 months to complain about Reaper’s Protection and Nightmare runes being standard in every Terror build…
Edit: I just think they went too far with keeping information back and wording things badly… the “promises” make it sound huge, while in reality we did not recieve that much – and looking at the first Skill Bar, who did not expect the Necromancer to get some extreme loving?

Yeah i am also prety sad. Instead of improving some realy underused/weak spells/traits like siphon line, giving us ability to get healed in DS, reducing some cast times, increase lf genration with scepter. Oh and now also people can easyly dodge corrupt boon x.x . And i think only decent change was with axe and main hand dagger. Spectral armour buff was nice but totaly not needed.
Yes I play necro and they are in a decent spot not the strong class but def not at the bottom either.

at this moment, i think we as players have more insight and more understanding of the meta and the balance, than any dev could ever have. but it’s not anet-typical. it’s the same with every competitive game.
they should simply hire the top 5 competitive tpvp teams EU/NA/CN as pvp-counselors, give them a small compensation fee , demand a regular balance report and act accordingly.

I acknowledged that Necromancers have decent options as builds – the only thing I have mentioned is the reason why people are let down and why I feel that changes are needed for a more healthier experience for both the players as the enemies?
And in case whining about Necromancers are underpowered or undesired in any way was not directed at me, at who was it aimed at?

In this case lol. They nerfed Golem, Lich form and plague form in a single patch. Necro elites weren’t even that good anyway. I would take venom, signet, banner, mass invis, moa, elemental, crate, etc etc in a heartbeat over our elites.
As for nerfing corrupt boon. Very lame. Necro is still ok. Just think they nerf it because all the devs play classes which don’t like necros. And necro owns bad players hard with the control it has.
And you cant go into death shroud half way through ressing stomping? Is that true? That is again totally hilarious and terrible. Why do they do things so halfheartedly.
And yes the plague bug is horrendously annoying.

I only played a bit with axe over staff in power necro.
Its nice to have 2 damaging sets, but actualy the range on axe is terrible – its melee 90% , and staff provides a lot more utility while DS takes over when u need damage. Now you have 3 damaging sets and 0 defense so gl on kiting and CC
The only thing i like about axe is the #3, as it has might and even stabilty higher on the list.

Not really! I too think that necro is strong and as you already know i play the profession. The whine coming from most necro players is pathetic!

Because they are a selfish class, lacking synergy. Their support options cripple them because they have to give everything up and still won’t compare to guardians and elementalists. Warriors are rather selfish too, but they can provide support in the form of crowd control, might stacking, they don’t have any problem stomping or reviving, and they have the tankiness to fight a 1v2 on point for a time. Hopefully with necromancers being able to stomp/revive while in death shroud they will be seen more on teams. One huge thing was addressed though. How long was necro asking for a cleaving attack? I know 2 targets isn’t a cleave, but it’s a significant buff for dagger. Of course, it’s human nature to complain about the negatives instead of focusing on positives.
I’m guessing the well of blood duration nerf was because of the new light field combo to gain light aura. As for the nerf to the heal it gave.. I mean I get not wanting that much of a heal in so little time being possible, but in my opinion it should have been increased by 100% instead of 50% so it wouldn’t be a nerf to the healing, or at least reduced the well’s cool down.

I actually want / wanted them to “change” the nec to a class who is more like others, more sustain, less pressure, they didn’t. But it doesn’t mean that nec is in bad position considering we got no nerf.
Nec still have proper 1v1 match up against almost everything exept staff ele I think, it’s still good in team fights, it’s still good to outnumber some situations or to finish some fights.
I wouldn’t say that the nec is in bad position, it is just a different gameplay than others profs, I mean let’s say the meta is actually guard / war / ele / thief / X , all those prof have a sustain clearly above the nec. So as nec you’ll be focus more coz more dangerous and have to play differently (positioning, team assist , blabla …)
Or once again, stop rage about SoS, play and learn to play PROPERLY with SoS and … enjoy

Just be glad you’re not a thief…. Seriously I see more necro complaints than thief, meanwhile they are way stronger than thieves right now in every facet of the game. I only play necro and thief.
edit: Actually all the necro elite nerfs were absolute rubbish. Lich needed to be toned down, but they didn’t scale the damage back high enough to make up for removing the power gain. Also- Flesh golem nerf? wtf? Since when was this a problem?
Despite the elite nerfs I still think they’re pretty strong

Necro is in a good place right now. I spent a good amount of time playing it in PvP yesterday, and it stacks up well so far.

Because spec duration combined with soldiers amulett, 30 in SR, warhorn, spec walk and spec armor actually gives a build that is on par with what other professions can achieve in terms of attrition.
The build itself is still pretty useless because you lack any significant contribution to (team) fights except not dying that easily.
Also that salt comes from beeing fearbombed or well/lich bombed by our “good” builds, which center around bursting because, you know, lack of recovery or disengage.
The axe buff was nice and the Last Gasp change a modest buff, but it’s clear now why the Necro Ready-Up was the very last.
First, they didn’t even include some meaningful nerfs in the Ready Up.
Why? Do you really think these were added last minute???
Second, the overall damage in the game changed with this patch but no adjustment in the size of the Life Force pool was made. This pretty much proves that their “balancing formula” is whack. Things like aegis, dodges, blocks, immunities, invulnerabilities, stealth, etc. are defenses that scale 100%. Necros have virtually none of those, but have LF which doesn’t scale at all. In fact, just 2 people versus 1 person attacking you corrupts the formula, much less 3 or more people.
The size of the LF pool HAS to change if the damage in the game changes +/-. Failure to do so just proves it’s all just a “guesstimation” which will make Necros either drastically OP or UP.
Third, of all the professions that got reductions in projectile speed and cast times, Necros needed it the most. How is it possible to say that the ranger bow needed a faster projectile speed and not the Necro staff? The cast times for Necros are absurd…especially the heal and focus OH. Instead, they actually ADDED longer cast times in this patch.
Fourth, and most ridiculous of all, they nerfed Lich form by over 30% yet claimed that they only do “small shaves” in nerfs and buffs.
Frankly, the Lich nerf was actually a good one if they actually were consistent about not wanting people to be 1 shot or 2 shot.
Think about this logic…They were ok nerfing an elite on 180 second cooldown that could 1 or 2 shot someone. However, they still allow Skyhammer in ranked PvP.
Better yet…How is it possible to reconcile the logic of this nerf yet allow Mesmers, Guardians, and Thieves to do almost identical burst to pre-patch Lich without anything near 180 second cooldowns.
The DS stomping is one of those buffs that is ridiculous – not because of logic – but because the logic came way too late. People have already trained hours of muscle memory on not being in DS to stomp. After 2 years…For them to finally acknowledge how ridiculous it is not being able to stomp in DS is like telling soccer players they can now use their hands.
I wonder when they will realize that not allowing any heals in DS, wasting all your +healing stats, and losing access to all utilities is an impossible thing to balance…especially when all other forms of defenses are unavailable to Necros.
Gratz on creating a profession that’s impossible to balance and almost inherently has to be OP 1v1 because of its severe weaknesses 1v2+
People seem to be overreacting about Necro not being buffed enough, changed in a right direction or changed at all.
I think that if youre not abusing Reapers protection and Runes of the Nightmare (only me and one other Necro as far as I know), it is one of the most balanced classes. They are at the same spot most of the time and their place in meta or team comps often revolves about recent balance changes to other classes.
So as Djoooce said, the biggest buffs to Necro are actually other classes nerfs. Also Spectral Armor was one of the best utilities since beta, it did not need a buff, Ive been using it forever and it worked out very well for me.

I don’t play necro competitively much, but I have long since learned to LOS and back off when a necro pops spectral armor against my burst ele. It completely kills my mojo and all the damage I dump into him just gives him a full DS bar.
Being able to have ~50% uptime of this now (with duration and CD reduction) is very strong. I have to imagine you can figure out a way to utilize this properly.
They made it so Flesh of the Master now kills all minions any time the MM is downed or changes levels (for PvE). So you guys were asking for an MM nerf, and you got it.

In SoloQ the necro’s problem is more its role in the game itself if you ask me. The strong side of the necro is using conditions to manipulate the enemy team, but with a scepter/staff build you do not want enemies to get close to you; so you wont be good in defending a node. So you require decent teamplay, which you don’t see a lot of times in SoloQ with ignorant non-communicative players. Further more you can’t play like a thief, mesmer or ele by roaming around the map due to our few escaping abilities and limited stability uptime (6 trait points for 4 secs of stability is kinda much for Foot in the Grave). It is just that for bunkering you got other professions that do better, and for power builds you have also other professions that do better. Probably another game mode would have been a bigger buff for the necro’s than all those ’’buffs’’ from the patch combined. And yes, I refuse to play a lame MM build.

@Blackmoa : Obviously yeah but it’s still a bit stupid to see that you are dying and not pressing DS coz even if the trait pop after the DS end you’ll have 1~2k hp and prolly die instant, If I activate it while having around 2k hp I can have smth like 3-4k hp after the end of the DS :P
Anyways no needs to argue on a trait that is not going to be meta if not buffed.
I’m trying 0 4 6 0 4 with settler, my sustain is up, my damage are clearly not that good even with SoS, I’m not fast enough coz I have to go on dps runes and not traveler, I’m just half an elementalist with a corrupt tbo
