S3 Theory and solution
Class stacking was a huge problem last season and I would have thought Anet would have corrected that in the matchmaking system.
I guess I thought wrong — or maybe, just maybe, Anet does not view class stacking as an issue at all.
Evidence would seem to point the other way since they have prevented class stacking in the pro-league, I think.
If they stopped it there, then it must have been viewed as a problem. So why can’t the general pvp community get the same treatment?
In order to prevent class stacking ANET will have to ensure you cannot swap classes once pvp map loads or prevent you from DC’ing and coming back on a diff class.
If class stacking is prevented then there will be no need to swap classes either since you know you will be the only one of that class in your team.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
You’re absolutely right, and I have no problem with that policy. Anet has made clear that they would need to do those things too, sometimes last season. It should be done, I personally think it is healthier for the game overall.

Yea, class stacking feels like more of an issue, but I think it’s mostly because other aspects of matchmaking have improved so much. It’s just the next layer down as you peel the onion. =P
That’s probably true. So I have to ask, why does pro-league get it and we don’t?

Ez. You are not pro league.
lol guess that was easy, though not a good reason.
Class stacking is a symptom of bad balance. Nothing to do with the matchmaker.
If there was more than one viable build per class, class stacking wouldn’t matter that much.

There is truth to that, but we also have to live in the reality that there probably won’t be more than one viable competitive build per class anytime soon which does make class stacking either stupid OP or stupid weak.
Class stacking can be easily prevented by playing more than one profession. I don’t know why Anet would do anything about it. In virtually any other team-based game, good players in soloq play more than one role, so they can adapt to their comp. Do the same.

Pvp is a game mode within a larger game. In a pure pvp game you have a point. Too many casuals in the game. Think about the “new player” experience which was completely unnecessary, but done because structure was needed for new players to mmos. Pvp needs the same, because people won’t change and it makes the rest of us suffer because of their choice.

And you think they’ll be able to implement a matchmaker which does well at combating class stacking any time soon?

They already have it for the “pro league”. Devs were on the forums during season 2 talking about it. It didn’t sound like it was that big of a deal. Something about changing the sensitivity of the system to take class type more into account.
Camon, guys, adapt…-.-
I won matches with a team with 2 different classes…if you play good a class, you can won even with a full group of DHs. The real problem is that this kitten mm still makes team with all people losing
Yada yada yada the matching isnt the best the matchmaking isnt the best the matchmaking isnt the best. Blah blah blah.

Proleague is enforced by the ESL admins. That’s completely different from an automated system.
Yes, the current matchmaker can use profession uniqueness as a factor. However, that’s not what you’re asking for. That factor:
- Would favor unique professions on a team, but didn’t guarantee it. A team with multiple of the same profession got a penalty in the matchmaker scoring. However, if enough other factors rated highly, you’d get a team with duplicates.
- Didn’t really work and was set to either zero or something really low. Instead of creating unique teams, it was working against other factors, leading to longer queues and bigger skill differences.
Additionally, with players able to swap after the match is created, trying to use unique profession in the matchmaker would be ineffective. If players really wanted to abuse the system, they would queue as something random then switch to the OP profession once the match started.
