S5 potentially rekt
It was a problem in GW1 RA because all players were equal in the eyes of the MM system— it only cared about putting players into matches as fast as possible, with no ratings assigned to them, hence the ‘random’ in the name. GW2 has MMRs for every player, so to get into a match with someone specific you’d need to have an MMR close to theirs as well, and even then you’re just as likely to end up on the opposite team as you are theirs.
Two duoq’s syncing won’t be an issue.
GW1 Random Arenas had random matchmaking; it just threw players into a game as quickly as possible. It was an easy fix to add some random delay as to when players would be thrown into matches to resolve the issue of syncing.
GW2 has non-random matchmaking. It uses MMR. So seeing an issue where two duoq teams sync-queue and get matched together is very unlikely.
Furthermore, in RA, it was just as likely to be on the opposite team as the person you were syncing with. The reason it worked was because if you were on the same team, and won, you continued to be on that same team. This is not a factor in GW2, because you need to re-queue after every single match.
This does NOTHING absolutely NOTHING to address the issue of class stacking.
I just came from a match with 4 lights and a medium against 2 wars, 2 DH and a Necro.
As expected, it was stupidly unbalanced.
Now that all of your concerns in the OP have been explained to essentially be invalid…
You make some post about how none of that pertains to class stacking, which you didn’t even mention in the OP…
Shifting the goalposts much, are we?
It’s an additional concern. I recognize that the initial criticisms have been addressed.

What, you don’t like to run 3 Thieves on your team?

better than running against 4 DH’s. 2 full trap and 2 regular. the spam is real.
We do not know ANETS plan for Season 5 other than the solo/duo q thing. They may still be working on class stacking issues. Who knows? Fingers crossed that they do.

Yeah i think class stacking really needs to be looked at. The classes are balanced around non-class stacking (e.g. 1 DH isn’t much of an issue, stacked DHs are) yet pvp allows class stacking. Even in OW stacking of the same character was disabled in competitive because it gave teams too much advantage on certain maps.
Certainly, nothing stops players from switching classes but at least you won’t end up with 4 DHs (that excel at point holding) vs 3 thieves (that can’t hold point to save their lives) teams right off the bat.
This raises questions:
So, if anti-class stacking were to be implemented (i.e. a given team can only have 1 of each profession[elite spec considered]), how would you picture that mechanically being done?
Like, for example, would there be a pre-match selection where everyone chooses what character they want, and if someone chooses a character that is a Dragonhunter, then all the characters that are Dragonhunter grey-out for everyone else?
What would happen if someone only had 1-4 characters, and all their professions were chosen before they could make a choice? Would the system auto-give them a temp-character with a template build?
Would this make it so people are forced to play on professions they are not comfortable with?
I mean, the premise of no class stacking is nice, but implementing that mechanically is another story.

Simplest way would be that you Q with the class you want and the matchmaker will try and form teams with no class stacking (although I think for ranked they really should allow max of 2 of the same class and only 1 double so you can have 2DH but not 2Dh and 2Rev in a team. Then during the pre match ready up phase prevent anyone from switching to class that has already one of in the team.

Why couldn’t they just equally distribute the classes in each match? If there are 4 necros and 4 dh in a match couldn’t they just split them between the 2 teams effectively eliminating any advantage of class stacking? There just seems to be alot of issues with banning multiple classes on thr same team.

The problem would be what the mmr distribution would look like after that. If you prioritize avoiding class stacks, you might stack one team with higher mmr players. Then the question you would need to ask is: what affects match outcome more? Mmr or class composition?
If they don’t address class switching during ready up time then anything they do with the Match Maker to prevent switching will be meaningless since you Q on a class that you feel not many people want to play (for example the current most Underpowered class) and then simply switch after.

That is definitely the question. If the matchmaking is putting 10 people of similar MMR into a match the answer would be class stacking for sure. But if the matchmaker expands it’s MMR range based on time in queue, then at a certain point MMR would begin to have a greater effect. If the algorithm accounted for this and swapped priority once the MMR range reached a certain point, that might be a solution. Will that stop people from complaining about how unfair PVP is? Probably not.

It could work BUT implementing any class stacking mechanic will increase que times.
This community whines a lot for even an additional minute so I do not see it happening unless pvp suddenly gets a large influx of people.
The influx of people won’t happen soon. There is a widespread perception that PvP is unfair and brutal.
That belief was strongly increased when ANET attracted PvE players to PvP with a legendary backpack. These (relative) innocents were then exposed to stacked matches.
PvP needs to upgrade it’s credibility to the game as a whole. A solo/duo season might be a step in that direction. To do this, we’ll need very even matches.
Longer queue times would be an excellent trade for non class stacked matches.
3 stacked matches in a row. One was 500 – 5. If ANET can’t provide fun matches, they can’t expect people to play. I’m seeing stacks of necro and dh over and over.
I guess the playerbase for PvP is getting smaller and smaller, which means queue times would be huge if it’s placing players with similar MMR (or trying to anyway) on a team, with only say, one of each profession on that team also.
The only other work around I can think of, and this isn’t really something that would be that practical in GW2, would be for the system to put players into a lobby after it puts you all into a game. When you’re in the lobby each team member chooses the class they want to play. If someone else already has rolled say, Guardian, then the other four members have to choose another class.
Like I said, this type of system isn’t practical for GW2, given that it’s an MMO and not everyone rolls every class in the game, so they might not have access to the other classes, unless the game has pre-made characters that you could select, if you didn’t have your own of those classes.

Unranked is atrocious, I’ve won 4v5 games because other side is so terrible and I’ve lost 5v4 because of the reverse.
It’s not even class stacking, the MMR system in unranked is basically non existent/trash tier.
I started playing gw2 less then a year ago so my opinion can’t be compared to most of the pvp players that have a lot of played games behind them. But what I can see is that matchmaking in gw2 is horrible (ranked or unranked), on several occasions 8 out of 10 matches were a loss of 500vs100 points, sometimes even worse. It’s extremely discouraging, what’s worse this game isn’t new and has such an unfinished pvp system, therefore I’m not convinced that anet will ever be able to solve the issue. That ofc forced me to feed my pvp desire elsewhere.
This solo queue poll is just more insult to injury because it just looks like a cheap fix so they can say “ok there, we tried and it didn’t work” since obviously the queue is not the only problem. In my opinion solo and team queue should be separate leagues (with addition that only players of the same/similar skill level can party up for competitive team league in order to keep it fair), but it still needs a much better matchmaking system. I rather wait a little longer in order to have more balanced game and actually enjoy playing it.
PVP dailies are also a part of the problem imo, players want to finish the daily so you get a lot of class stacking and in addition some play on a class they know nothing about. I have 2 classes that I felt comfortable taking into pvp, I didn’t use the ones that were leveled up with tomes because I felt like a burden going into a game where I have no idea what I’m doing.

Before you were complaining about thieves and engis being OP. Now you are concerned about warriors and DH. It is hard to keep track of your complaints.

Lol. Are we playing the same game? Am I the only one who has fun playing unranked? There’s like twice the number of maps and for me at least, the matches are pretty good most of the time.

This is a symptom of volatile MMR. You didn’t play unranked consistently enough to have a fixed one, yet.

I know it’s not the case, but going on argument about a failed none-competitive grindy league system will not help your point anyway.
There is hundred of players who are not Rubis Season 4 and are better than hundred of supposed to be “Legendary” players.

I made Ruby twice in 4 seasons. and Sapphire twice. Each time, I stopped playing before the end of the season. It simply wasn’t fun.
I did however finally win my wings on my alt account. I busted my kitten to do it, too.

I’ve played almost every day since they added salty sea dog title, that’s like months on end and it’s still trash. Tired of hearing that excuse where I don’t play enough, I almost play as much as vallun does until like 2 weeks ago and even watching his stream he gets these trash tier games often.
