Just curious on this:

Player A goes into PvE. Player A plays for 3 months or 400 hours and gets to level 80 (possibly on multiple characters). Player A then acquires tons of cool gear, items and gold. Player A then decides he’ll take a break from PvE and start WvW. Player A now gets to take all of his items, gear, and money into WvW to help him along. He is at almost no statistical disadvantage to anyone who only played WvW the whole time.
Player A then decides to try SPvP. Player A is now a bit uglier than his peers but is on 100% equal footing.

Player B goes into WvW. Player B plays for 3 months or 400 hour and gets to level 80(possibly on multiple characters). Player B acquires tons of cool gear, items and gold. Player B then decides he’ll take a break from WvW and go into PvE. He is level 80 and has good enough gear to jump right in. He is at almost no disadvantage in PvE.
Player B then decides to try SPvP. Player B is now a bit uglier than his peers but is on 100% equal footing.

Player C goes into SPvP. Player C plays for 3 months or 400 hours. Player C acquires some cosmetic gear that he can’t take anywhere. Player C is broke. Player C decides to try WvW. Player C is at a huge disadvantage in gear, skills, traits. His peers may not understand their class as much as player C, but they have an inherent advantage.
Player C then says forget that, he now tries PvE. He is level 2. He must now play the game as if it were his first day launching it.
Player C gets the short end of the stick.

Player D just comes to the game. Talks to his friends: Player A, B, and C. He tries to decide the best way to play the game to experience it all. Player D immediately realizes whichever way he will start, it most assuredly would be insane to go the same route as Player C, because, well…that would be stupid.

If you played for 400 hours, and not once realized that you were still level 2, didn’t have any gear and didn’t have any gold, you deserve the short end of the stick.

Players A and B actually play MORE of the game than player C, who simply plays a minigame.

And no, I’m not hating on people for playing SPvP/TPvP, I do so as well. I actually participate in all 3 “modes” of the game. It’s a bit like the silly arguments that pvpers make in every MMO about “PvE’ers coming into PvP with their shinies and having advantages! SO UNFAIR!” and then stupid stats are invented coughresiliancecough to throw them a compensation bone and a double gear grind starts for the people that actually play the WHOLE GAME and not just a part.

In the good ol’ days of say Asheron’s Call: Darktide server (only server as far as I’m concerned, full FFA PvP server) there was no seperate “PvP” and “PvE”. Neither gear nor areas. All open world PvP/PvE all the time period. So people that wanted to do both, did both and were rewarded for doing both.

Nowadays though everyone likes their segregation. It’s like reverse civil rights in the MMO universe where people actually plead with the powers that be to be treated as separate and different/discriminated against from each other.

“I’m a PvEer and I deserve to have Y because of it!”

Well fine then good sirs, I’m both and deserve to have an advantage over the both of you.

And the reason we play it to be so competitive is because a few of us feel we can make PvP OUR ACTUAL JOBS when e-sports come out.

If you laugh at that, go look at the top LoL players. Personally, I feel this game will eventually grow to the point where it can support its career-gamers just as much, if not more than LoL.

I think the frustration of a competitive PvPer when he enters the other 2 primary game modes is understandable. After all, his efforts are not rewarded in as broad a manner as those who do WvW or PvE. At the same time, said PvPer is used to being on god-tier, and being a level 1-10 nub after that is frustrating.

I think your last sentence probably sums it up. I play PvP as a solo player but I do it seriously. I spend time on dummies figuring out the smallest discrepancies in sigils, runes, traits. I bought all character slots and have one of each profession. I’ve played them all to attempt to learn their strengths and weaknesses. I do all of this while getting better and better. Once I step out into the actual game (since apparently this is just a mini-game to the other guy), I feel like a peasant. The greatest disconnect imaginable.

If you want cash gold and a bank roll play PvE. Spvp is balanced around the fact it has next to no effect on PvE and that PvE has no effect on it at all. They are 2 separate world. Because gearing is so stupidly cheap in PvE this is a qq thread if I have ever seen one. Btw WvW is considered part of PvE.

If you played that many hours in pvp get you should have gotten into a few paid tournaments, won them, and sold the gems.

Maybe I missread but it sounds like you want everything by only doing PvP. You have to do both PvP and PvE if you want to compete in both areas.

PvP is very much about beauty. Beautiful PvP gear. Beautiful rank. Beautiful qualifying points. Beautiful (future) rating. Prestige and fame for being in a popular team.

Players A and B, like you even admitted, are ugly when they go into PvP. What happens to them? They get judged by other PvPers because of it. “Wtf you’re rank 2? Gtfo of this team” “LF1 more for paids, rank 40+.”

You have to look at what “end game” means for serious PvPers. Our end game is to find a good team that we can synergize with, participate in (future) monthly tournaments, and get the chance to compete in seasonal tournaments. This is our end game. PvE and WvW players are at a significant social disadvantage in the PvP community in this regard when they enter PvP.

PvP is for many of us NOT a mini-game. Some of us (such as PZ) will play it anywhere from 6-10 hours EVERY DAY just to be competitive.

That doesn’t change the fact that the SPvP part of the game is hardly equivalent to the PvE and WvW development of the game, the number of players and the overall %of the game’s makeup as a whole. It’s a very small section of the entire game. A person could run AC for 6-10 hours a day as well, doesn’t make it more than a tiny part of the game in the slightest.

And the reason we play it to be so competitive is because a few of us feel we can make PvP OUR ACTUAL JOBS when e-sports come out.

Good for you. I won’t go into my personal thoughts over the whole idea of making it your “job” because I’m sure you’d just be offended by it.

So a player with 100% world completion, multiple legendaries and massive WvW experience should be rewarded with increased power in SPvP too then right? I doubt you’d agree, nor would I. There’s no reason whatsoever that SPvP time should translate into PvE/WvW equivalents. It’s a seperate part of the game. It is, indeed, a mini-game within the overall game. You haven’t put in the time nor effort to achieve the same rewards as the PvE’er who has amassed his dungeon gear, his level, his gold, his legendaries (if he chose to go for them), etc. You don’t deserve them any more than he deserves to have everything unlocked and random QP totals, tickets for paids, nor anything involving tourney play.

Again, I play every part of the game, including SPvP and free tourney’s. By your logic I should have advantages over you as well as anyone else who neglects to play a part of the game.

now i only do sPvP, PvE is to easy (legendaries are FARM FARM FARM !!!) and WvW is ZERG everywhere.
i almost dont leave Heart of Mist and i dont care about the rest, only thing i want is we could spend those insane quantity of glory on gems and exist some rank boosters because lvl in spvp is ridiculous.
lvl 40 need already 45k rank to lvl up just one lvl, at lvl70 will be what?

Wish you could get exp from sPvP also. Got a bunch of alts i made for sPvP purposes, but can’t bring myself to grind to 80 again on them.

I agree with the OP completely. I started out playing both SPvP and PvE, but only got to rank 18 in PvE and decided it was not for me. Which is fine, i just played sPvP. Trouble is, after 3 months or so now, i am getting bored of sPvP. But I still dont like PvE. What I WOULD like to try is WvW, but i have heard if you are not full 80 you are doomed. Aaaaannd i dont really want to have to level in WvW either. So… i am left with just PvP. Cant see why they couldnt at least let PvP xp cross over into WvW. Anyhoo that’s my take on things. Ultimately i think it all just means i’ll prolly venture off to some other game very shortly. Which i suppose after 3 months i cant complain too much, really. Just a shame from my point of view.

Ps – actually if you could straight up buy levels with real money i would do so, just to check out the WvW without the time sink of leveling. i dont think you can do this though, can you?
