SPvP just isn't very fun
i have not been enjoying it much either.
hopefully the new mode adds some thing back. i used to spend countless hours in RA playing match after match. they were short so it was fun. crap team was over quick and u got to go to another match. good team > move on and fight together again
right now, these matches, even awful ones, just drag on… then u have to wait before playing another one… which can be equally terrible. just not fun
You can actually get gear faster from dungeons. You have to craft some of the pieces with the mountain of gold being thrown at you.
For the skins however, I am close to getting the “Dungeoneer” title, having only three explorable dungeon paths, ever. But since it is the only skins you get in pvp (glorious armor excluded), I think this is acceptable.

No, you get them much, much faster from PvP. You can complete a PvP track of CoF in less than a day. which gives you about 3 weapons chests, a few hundred tokens, and an Armor chest. Weapons alone cost an average of 300 tokens a piece if you buy them from a vendor, and since you only get the bonus tokens (which represent the bulk of the tokens you get from doing dungeons) once a day per path, there is no way you can get enough tokens in a day of dungeoning to get 3 weapons, let alone a piece of armor to go along with them. Plus you don’t get any tomes of knowledge from dungeons at all.
If it’s not fun, don’t play it.
Over last few months I’ve been slowly passing on GW2. Now, after Witcher 3 launch and buying PS4, I don’t play at all, I will just keep my eyes on announcements and updates.
Hopefully they will deliver HoT before October.

Well , i’ve mastered my build as much as I can with my mesmer. I never get rolled anymore, lowest point would be 150, I class a double digit as a role. But if you’re a good asset to your team and you know how to play the map, you should alone be good enough to make a difference. If you’re struggling, communicate with your team via chat, make suggestions, be proactive. How can a team have any chance of winning with no coordination AT ALL. They can’t so don’t complain when you loose if you have no tactics involved. Here’s me anyhow to give you a little idea.
On a broader level I’m not a fan of the way the game has been balanced the past year.
It’s more ‘balanced’ per say than ever, however lightning/air procs have vanillafied glass cannons, with doom/geo removing any need for condition-focused weapons. Combine this with a celestial amulet and hybrid or standardized burst is the only way to play the game now. And both are heavily reliant on passive mechanics.
Just my two cents. There’s too much noise on the forums for a considered discussion to impact on game development IMO anyhow.. oh well…

100% true. Not to mention the previous fun and team work involved in ressing and stomping no longer exists because if you res you insta die to thief/engi/power necro and if you stomp you just get cleaved down. There is simply too much damage in the game thanks to sigils I guess.

Unfortunately, it’s an issue with the people that play the game. There are just too many people that a) don’t understand how to play the game mode strategically, and b) just don’t know how to fight other players. When I get a few bad games because of this, I just stop PvPing or playing GW2 for a bit, and hope for better quality matches when I return - after the pool of players queuing changes.

I have been having much balanced games, where even more bad teams at least get 300+ points.:P I guess Practise mode is a big faceroll. The only problem with that is that they allow uneven teams. I think it would be best if you can queue for a team, and if someone decides to join the other team, both players will be added in the game. (Or something else like that.) At least a way that makes sure the teams are even and that it’s not 3 noobs vs 4 pro’s.
We still have that cancer named “Practice”. Practice, exactly, what?
It’s pretty obvious that when new player enters pvp the first time, he will choose this option to see what’s going on.
Then he will be thrown into hotjoin with completly one-sided matches with autobalance exploits. One thing he will learn is that zerging is good, caps are sidequests and you don’t defend.
What kind of “Practice” is that?
Terrible start for new players, even worse wide gap between new players and veterans. That’s the main reason why PvP community is so small, exvlusive and closed to newcomers.
I hope that Stronghold will have better success than conquest. It’s easier to understand and execute for a new player, promotes playing with guild and opens up build possibilities.

Conquest will never be as fun as GW1 style GvG. Hopefully with 3+ Stronghold maps PvP in this game will go up a notch.
I love the pvp engine in this game.
The only problem is the MMR algorithm.
I agree that sPvP just isn’t very fun especially if you don’t have a team to roll with.
Matchups are all over the place with kids generally thinking there the kitten for facerolling a 4v5 or sometimes even 3v5 plus games in general seems to be getting more full of trolls and people without a clue how to play.
In the past day I have seen facerolls both ways, with just one close game between them and every game has been multiples of the same class on each team, usually 2+ rangers, necros or mesmers and then usually one warrior or guardian. I’ve personally seen just one engi and one thief all day (unranked queues)
I just feel sPvP comes down to who has the more effective zerg rather than skill now since most players seem to forget about the points altogether and fight nowhere near points and play CoD mode.
Courtyard (or CoDyard as I call it) is also going up in map selection lately which is a shame because personally I think its the worst map of them all simply because its a CoD players wet dream, players 10 metres apart with no objectives outside of killing other players until the unbalanced matchmaking system finally allows one team or the other to spawn camp players as they drop down. God I hate that map….
It would be nice to see some smaller game modes such as 3v3 to try balance the system slightly better but the reality is between bad players and good players theres such a large gap in skill that it makes things really hard to balance regardless of the system.
For example a couple of days ago I was 1v1 a friend from my guild both of us playing ele, I generally don’t play ele much but its something I am trying to pick up whereas he has been playing d/d for a long time. Even on a full zerk build I couldn’t even damage the guy, I tried again using celestial but all that did was increase the time it took me to die. I know I suck on ele but to not even damage was really shocking considering full zerk too.
Before people decide to flame me for the comment about there being a large skillcap, I am not suggesting to remove the skillcap because that is what makes pvp interesting, however I just wanted to state why I think matchups are the way they are.

Yeah, that is pretty much my sentiments as well. I wish ranked actually put you in matches only with people of your same PVP rank, that would go a long way to fixing the problem I think. But, you would probably just have people jump on a different account with a lower rank just so they could wipe the floor with people of lower skill than them.
i love it – i started on an ele – didn’t really know what i was doing – switched to ranger – played a few hundred games – learned something about the other classes by playing against them – switched to engi – played a few more hundred gamed – learned some more – made a guard, warrior and necro to play around on, now i’m back on ele and finally i kinda know what i’m doing although i have a long way to go
my point is stick to it – pvp is a very steep learning curve that takes many months of hardcore or probably many years of soft core play to master
i’m mixed about rewards – if you are a hardcore pvper you can get dungeon rewards like amu’s much faster then doing them in pve – but other loot and loot boxes are WAYYYY less then what you can get from wvw or pve
Been playing since launch, 90% of the time in pvp – still having fun.
In the same boat kinda. I’m just doing spvp to unlock titles, finishers, tomes, and armor sets til HoT.
A few professions builds are completely broken op, and chance on crit sigils lessons any skill play further.
Coming from a necro main, it isnt very fun cause every class easily rolls us, unless im playing power, and even then, I still get rolled. Every game there are cele players everywhere running all their cool condi clears and stun breakers. Also just finished 2 recent games which had leavers in both. Not only am I playing twice as hard to make up for my kitten class, but those who leave just make every game an automatic lose.

^ exactly. The learning curve for this game is really really big. There is an immense amount of knowledge about skills, classes, boons, cool downs, builds, animations, etc that you need to have to know what to do in a situation. Then you have to have enough skill with your class to pull it off. Guild Wars 2 pvp is not pick up and go. You will need 100s of games, and will have to do a lot of reading to get even average.
Duels, steamers, and guides are all great Duels for improvement. Duling people who you are on TS with and getting feedback, and spectating their actions is really helpful.

Not fun, you say??? Come on! We have 4v5s, premade teams with no soloq, horrible class balance, a boring meta, the courtyard/skyhammer maps, and lackluster matchmaking! That really doesn’t do it for you?
All this “stick with it” talk is just crap. Spvp is bad. Really bad. I can only hope it gets better in the expansion, but I don’t have my hopes up. Too bad, too, as I absolutely loved random arenas in GW1.

RA was what got me hooked on GW1.

Random arena was truly fun. I can’t pin the reasons why, perhaps it only worked in GW1? I think AB was a TON of fun also, considering it was conquest makes me wonder if it isn’t the game-mode but the pvp mechanics themselves.
