Stay Low. Move Fast. Kill First. Die Last.
Separation of skill level?
Stay Low. Move Fast. Kill First. Die Last.
Well there has been plenty of threads on the subject in the PvP section already. I can tell without ever reading that section just from the dev responses.
One thing worth repeating from their responses is that rank does not equal skill. It equals time spent playing since rank points are earned for both winning and losing. You would just gain ranks faster by winning than losing.
There is probably some correlation but you should not automatically assume that a rank 40 is necessarily that much better than a rank 10.
Well from my experience the level 40’s have dominated haha. Still, I feel like a way match others with people of similar skill would make it a much more enjoyable way to become better at fighting other players, and my goal would be to eventually work my way up to WvW. (Even though I have tried to jump into WvW but was utterly destroyed)
I’m not trying to make it seem like i’m just some horrible player who rages all the time at the fact he is bad at the game. Just wishing there was a way to make it easier on newer people to ease their way into PvP so they would eventually have a fighting chance against the more experienced players.
Stay Low. Move Fast. Kill First. Die Last.
All I can really add to this is practice
I’m a veteran to the MMORPG game…many years haha, my most extensive being WoW (though that is irrelevant). In any event, the PVP here imo is vastly different and when I first started out I was pretty bad and I’ve gotten better and still have quite a bit of improving to do. Just keep on with it, practice, try new builds, watch vids, and hopefully it’ll all click. Best of luck!
You’re not that Laintime who played an UD warrior (and made videos about it) since ganking in Plaguelands was what the cool kids did, are you?
Balthazar runes are broken.
Hahaha no I’m not BUT I use to really enjoy his vids :p and where I got (I guess stole, my bad) the name from. Impressive though…no one has ever asked, mentioned, or called me out on the name.
Proud Warlord title holder and UD warrior here since age immemorial. I used to follow people that did well back then and Laintime was one of them. Shameless self-plug but whatever, I sometimes recognize names and try to figure out where they have gone.

Laintime was one of the most well known names in the WCM circuit. So its not that impressive tbh :p
Laintime, Vurtne, Niar, Kishkumen, Maydie etc where the major movie studs. But we had a lot of guys ofc that didnt make videos or had videos that had a bit less exposure. Like the Warders of the melee ppl who dominated the EU scene during vanilla, tbc up till the early wotlk days.
But its cool to see im not the only wow veteran on these forums.
On topic:
The system matches ppl who are in queue. So you need to be a bit lucky as higher or lower rated player to get matched with people of even skillllevel. Ive seen matches with ppl during their first games getting matched with the absolute top of the ladder. So rank 40 isnt that bad even.
They are busy creating a new and improved system that seperates new players from veterans. So fingers crossed that it will improve the situation.

@OP:
How do you know their rank? Ranks aren’t displayed anymore.
PLay tournaments, eventually you will lose so often that your enemies are just as bad as you.
They talked about adding ladders and leagues “soon” in another thread, eventually…maybe 2 years from now, they will have a system that splits skill levels properly, balanced classes, and proper rewards.

aw 2 years.. but i guess better later than never. And i’ll try out some of the arenas then, might even improve along the way

Well just posted a topic of this but seems it was already made (prob a 1000 times )
Would be great if you can choose where you belong in spvp.
If just started like me. i can understand the OP, if Devs say rank is no skill. it’s in my opinion not completly true. Time to learn it, equals a amount of skill. (ofcourse individualy)
So if you can choose the games in skill level. a lvl 40 would have challenge on it’s oppenents. But so does a 0-10 lvl. As for A-Net a extra search bar and some moderations in this game option hasn’t to be to difficult, i think?

Oh the glory.
ive been doing some hotjoins because of the constant 4v5’s i am getting these days. what i’ve noticed is that most high ranks would stack in one team and demolish the other team that has low ranks. anyway, all you have to do is spectate and see where the high ranks are. i feel bad for the new players practicing in hotjoin.
