Serious Gold seller problem is back
I really wonder why people sell gold. I mean isn’t there already a gem => gold conversion system up in place? Just buy gems and get gold. Why would anyone want to go outside the system?
The faster you report each spammer (and then of course block them so they can no longer bother you), the faster they’ll be gotten rid of. It takes 3 clicks to report, and 3 clicks to block, it really can’t get any easier.
The faster you do this, the less time the gold seller has to use the account. The less time they’ve got to use the account, the less profitable it is to sell gold. It’s economics – once you do your part in making it uneconomical for them to sell gold, they’ll go away and not come back.
my problem is i keep getting most of the spam when i’m halfway through a match, so not sure if they have an alt account they’re playing on and scraping account names from the game, or scraping longer lists of names from HOTM before sending out messages to everyone as fast as they can

Because its alot cheaper than the conversion you mentioned, attracting ppl with too much money on their hands.
However, it’s mostly those people who get their account banned or hacked later on.
I just want to know, who is actually buying gold? Because there must be a market for this, else they would not bother doing it.

Lots of ppl do but most will never tell.
Anet is cracking down heavy on this. You can get suspended really easily now buying gold and in the worst case getting permanently banned.
I know people who do and used to be able to buy alot of gold without getting anything , not even a suspension but now it’s really common.
Now there’s a 500gold limit on your in-game mail a week which also combats purchasing large amounts of gold which also at the same time if triggered sets flags off on your account and then the devs review that activity and suspend you if it’s from a suspicious source such as a known gold-selling account.
Most spam bots are generated accounts hence why most of them have characters like this “Akjsdlshwierywiryw.####” as their account name. They’re just automatically made in bulk and send out masssssive whispers to scraped names in a given zone and those are made by the gold company in bulk just to get people’s foot in the door to buy the gold in the first place.
Then you have the actual gold creators, which like the image above , various bots ranging from gatherers to hunters but most are stolen/hacked/cracked accounts.
