I’ve always wondered why this disparity exists. Some people like to play with their friends – good for them. I have no problems with that. But why should it provide them with better rewards? If we assume that rewards are handed out based on skill, then how does tPvP imply better skill? Skill at communicating?

Ultimately one can choose to play alone or with a team. Both are valid, so why the disparity in rewards?

But I love the idea of having two separate queues. That’s awesome and was much needed. I just think they should have the same rewards.

Edit: To head off the response “If you want higher rewards, form your own team”, in my opinion that’s an arbitrary distinction. Suppose Anet gave higher rewards to people who had 4 vowels in their name, you would hardly say “Just create a character with 4 vowels if you want higher rewards!” The point is not that team play is a distinction, it’s that it’s an arbitrary distinction.

Team Arena is regarded as the more competitive queue, hence the higher rewards.

You can also solo queue into Team Arena (And many people do. Solo Arena does not often provide the best matches), so the rewards are still well within your reach as a solo player.

There is a distinction in that you can never face premades in the solo Q. So any premades that want to play have to enter the team Q, and everyone who wants to avoid premades has to stick to the solo Q.

And there is no reason to group randomly just to get into team Q, because then you just face a very good chance of taking a motley PUG group with no coordination, comms, or strategy up against a well oiled premade with voice comms and an optimal team comp, all playing at the top of their game.

So, basically team Q is designed for premades only, which, since you will always be facing other premades, expect to have to play at a much higher skill level as individuals, and as a whole, in order to win, compared to what they would have to do to get a win in the typical solo Q match.

You might find the same players in both Qs from day to day, and their personal skill level obviously doesn’t change from one mode to the other. But the extent to which they need to exercise that skill in order to win certainly does.

end of season rewards should be better for team queue due to the organization that a team requires but end of match rewards should be the same to prevent people solo queuing team queue. but since we don’t have a working leaderboard, a working matchmaking, no sense of progression, no real rewards other that the same cosmetics we’ve had for the last year and half (all in all, no features to make a competitive season) we will have to put up with this crap for a long time. not “we”, but whoever still plays this… kitten

Actually you are wrong. There is a lot more reason to do team vs solo queue.
1. No skyhammer.
2. The rewards are better enough.
3. A lot of the time you fight against pugs as well.
4. Not 100% but less 4v5.
5. The lose in TeamQ is better than SoloQ.

Soloq takes way less time than arranging a team for tpvp..you can just keep going, no wait, no ppl going afk in hom, no gf at the phone and on and on and on…you just join and you’re ready to go..

currently solo queue has no purpose, everyone just solo queues for team, solo queue is just team queue with less rewards.
as silvermember pointed out, no skyhammer, better rewards XD

I think solo queue and team queue should have the same rewards…

Why?

Because team queue is actually easier than solo queue…that’s why.

So why reward players more for doing something easier?

No Skyhammer, no spirit watch and better players on average makes team queue far easier than solo queue.

All you after do is avoid pre-mades. Basically when you come across a pre-made team farming just log out and try again later. They will eventually get bored.

imo team q is way harder when you don’t have a premade team of 5.
any less and you may end up with pugs because of the solo joiners.

also, since making a premade takes more effort (or sometimes not) it’s still something more than going solo. solo joiners in team q defo have a less chance of winning

As a long time PvP player of many games. The ultimate reality is;

Pre-mades have a elitism issue. They tend to believe that because they are playing in a more organised way that they therefore are playing more skillfully and at a higher degree. However when technology that provides VoIP, team practice, everyone running synergied builds this also makes them more forgiving. At any time they all know what is going on and who would most benefit going to help who. Generally their playstyle is very unflexiable with people having to run certain builds and having to perform certain roles.

PuG’s;
Have the higher failure rate over pre-m’s, however PuG also can have the highest reward. To be able to figure out quickly what each of your team is running and coordinate who would be best where requires more knowledge, intuition and understanding of each match mechanic. PuG’s rely more on action/reaction thinking as opposed to pre-m’s.

There is no difference in skill, just difference of execution. One relies on being very purposeful with what you do and on specifics and the other relies on being more diverse/balanced and being aware of what is happening/about to happen.

in GW1 a respectabled placed 8vs 8 GvG match required no more or less skill than a team arena 4 vs all contenders getting to 25 consecutive wins team.

Soloq takes way less time than arranging a team for tpvp..you can just keep going, no wait, no ppl going afk in hom, no gf at the phone and on and on and on…you just join and you’re ready to go..

This is the primary reason to make team queue rewards better than solo queue rewards. If you give two groups of players 100 hrs of game play and have one exclusively team queue and the other solo queue, the solo queue players will have played more games for the reasons highlighted by Archaon.

As long as MMR is working properly, and you have a healthly player pool, win % should stay relatively equal between the two unless you’re an outlier.

That said, I don’t think the current rank point rewards are in a good place. Prior to the bonus win chest rewarding rank points, the difference between a win in Team v. Solo queue was 20% (250 v. 300) and a loss was 17% (150 v. 175).

The difference between the team queue bonus chest and solo queue chest is 122% (450 v. 1000), that’s way out of line. I’d like to see it brought more in line with the original difference and be a 25% difference, as well as a solo or team queue loss giving more than or equal rank to a hot join win.

I’d like to see the following rank rewards:

Team Queue:
Base Win: 300
Bonus Win: 1,000
Loss: 225

Solo Queue:
Base Win: 250
Bonus Win: 800
Loss: 200
