use the join arena instead of “play now”, play now is only for while you waiting.
(but yeah I also hate that auto-balance…got thrown from winning team to losing, too many times..)
I normally just wait in hotm for match to start.
Hotjoin is not sPvP, it is standard PvP. sPvP and tPvP refer to the arena (s = solo, t = team).
In actual sPvP and tPvP, you cannot switch teams. You play one match then everyone is kicked out and you rejoin the Arena.
To play sPvP or tPvP you need to click on the Arenas button instead of Hotjoin/Play Now or Server list. Select either solo or team, and enjoy actual sPvP/tPvP.
sPvP puts teams together at random, sometimes you end up with a good split, sometimes it is one-sided (as far as skill goes). I’ve seen some pretty awesome players with low ranking and pretty terrible players with high ranking, so rank alone doesn’t mean anything except that they play frequently.

If you were on a winning team and got auto-joined to a losing team, you will get all the rank points and credit for winning the match. In fact, if you are auto-joined, you are guaranteed to win the match, unless you go into spectate and the match ends while you are in there.
I am Sick of playing spvp and tpvp and spvp is the only thing because spvp is the most unfair got dam thing in this game. because of the that auto-banlanced works lets say that it is 4vs5 ppl and you are on the team with 4. then you just spectate and when auto-B has done it work well then you can just jump on the winning team and get more rank points. I would love if A-net would so if the figth turns unfair the team with less players get some sort of buff. because auto suck all so for the players on winning team because one of them go from being on the winning team to the losing and have just wasted alot of his time. What they also should be looking at is how they sort ranking in spvp because you have all the high ranked players on one team and then you have all the low ranks on the other team so lvl 60 50 40 30 20 vs 10 4 5 6 and then maybe one lvl 50 because that is fun to be the high one with all the new beginners yeah gg A-net do some thing about it plz. i only play spvp because i dont know if i am going to be there for the hole figth or not and i dont want to be a idoit to my team mates in tpvp so normaly you would see spvp as a place to relax and having fun but really it is the place that is the most fostuating in this game. sry for my bad english

Did you write that entire wall of text because you think hotjoin is unfair? Hotjoin isn’t supposed to be fair or unfair, that’s what ranked pvp is for. All your problems will be solved when you start playing solo or team queue.
Anet likely didn’t want to remove the armor stats entirely because…well,

play in 8 vs 8 or 10 vs 10 custom arena hotjoins then.
auto balance does not matter much when team sizes are larger than 5.
you will enjoy the chaotic fights found in the servers that support more players.
