I will be maybe the first person to say I understand and agree with the decision to not retroactively increase rank points already earned. At the time we were playing we knew what the rank points earned were, and it was enough for us to play anyway. You can’t go back now and decide to un-play all those matches. If you are done playing PvP then I don’t understand why you think your rank should go up. If you aren’t done playing PvP then I don’t understand how you feel this change benefits others more than yourself. Additionally, GW2 needs new players coming into the game and the game becomes less attractive for new players if they feel like everyone is already wayyyy ahead of them and they will never catch up.
That being said, rank points are mostly a grind, and I really wish there was more reward and recognition for skill that didn’t involve any sort of grinding. The leaderboards are supposed to represent that, but soloq leaderboards are flawed (after hundreds of games played you shouldn’t be able to jump up or down hundreds of ranks in just a few matches). Teamq leaderboards are much more accurate mostly because the better team wins a lot more often (very few 4v5s and bogus team compositions), but limiting yourself to only playing teamq greatly limits the days and times you can play the game with some sort of skill-based reward or recognition goal.
What I want are more ways to recognize individual player skill. I am interested in hearing thoughts of ways that would be fairly easy for Anet to do as well as be accurate and meaningful. Please discuss
I have a few random ideas to throw out there but I’ll just pick two for now:
Soloq round-robin
Soloq matches play to 100 and forest bosses, spirit orbs, and legacy lord worth 1/3rd normal points. After 100, the teams are rebalanced based on what their MMR would be from that match. After 5 matches, your individual MMR goes up or down based on your individual record within those 5 matches.
MMR character-based instead of account-based
This is important because I may play all 8 classes, but I’m not equally skilled at them all. To learn a new class in conquest mode (hotjoin doesn’t count to learn conquest) I have to play soloq, and if soloq leaderboards were to matter to me then basically I am SOL on having that option unless I want to ‘sacrifice’ my ranking to learn the new class, and every time I switch classes I have to ruin the matchmaking of a bunch of games before I finally settle where I belong.
