So I’ve been back in the game for about a month or so now and was wondering, why did Anet change the Sky Hammer map so there is this ridiculous shield wall around the entire map? One of things that I enjoyed about the map so much was the fact that if you’re not careful, someone could easily kick you off the side to your death. I can’t even say how many times I used to duel folks over a point where we were both trying to boot the other player only to finally screw up and find myself falling to my death. It was SO funny!

Anywho, why was this changed? Right now, the map is just boring.

i agree. I loved the falls. The map was a nice change to the others. (Well i disliked the cannon but …). The map got “Normalized” to be more competative…
It´s all about fun and to creat a diverse environment for me. If the super top player gets kicked off the map due to a lucky blow so be it. It´s actually fun and will even out in the long run. It will actually just be part of skilled play. Never had a problem with it. But people are diffrent.

Unfortunately that was also one of the thigns that kept people from taking the map even slightly seriously. It was also harrying for people with out auto pop stunbreaks due to the fact that you could be stunned and pulled entirely from stealth and have no realistic counterplay.

I actually remembered that I had to change my sound settings if I wanted to play on this map. Turning off my music and turning the effects up on this map map so I could hear the floor shorting out when their is a stealthed “insert pull capable class here”.

Also fear necros were a bit…overbearing to fight on the skyhammer.

Yes it gave those builds a place where they were strong. But it also took out alot of build diversity on the other end. As you were pretty well forced to counter these tactics or there would be a high chance you would get one shot with zero practical counterplay and be forced to sit there as your team gets steamrolled just because you weren’t running x build.

This made it SUPER FUN for some classes and builds. And absolutely horrible for others.

I don’t think anet minds too much if there is diversity in maps. But from what I have seen they try not to have such an extreme split between them.

I guess they thought skyhammer was just too gimmicky to really justify the drama in the end.

At the beginning i asked myself WTF after i got pulled into holes by a dragonhunter but i learend to get better and actually enjoyed it (I main ele).

You can still cause falling deaths…just need to be in the hammer platform to do it.

I wouldn’t mind a “classic” Skyhammer map for unranked but even with the questionable competitive state gimmick deaths with zero counterplay are something that really don’t have a place in a mode that in theory should exist for people who wish to play for the sake of improvement.
