SkyHammer...
I hated it when I first played it, but as I played it more I came to appreciate it more. I’d say it’s my favorite map right now.
What don’t you like about it? Getting knocked off?
Priorities, what to do?

Don’t even go there. The map is obviously much easier for certain professions to traverse.
this map is made for playerz which like to oneshot lowlvls on spawnpointz in other games with there maxed out characters
or grief wherever they can
or kick lil kids from there bycicle
and has NOTHING TO DO with any competive gameplay – just a map designed to kitten people

I loath this map… when I do spvp, its just in a random join game, so when Im fighting to defend a node, I dont need some mega laser making my job nearly impossible.
Cant even count the number of 1v1 or 2v1’s ive been in and would have won if i hadnt been screwed by that laser.
Certain professions having iWin buttons when in the vicinity of the edge of the map isnt cool either. Nor are the glass floors, although those havent caused me much grief.
You can tell me to just “mind my surroundings” but the fact remains that this map favors certain classes/builds heavily over others, and I dont pvp to play against the terrain, I pvp to combat other players.

It’s all about positioning and if the other player can take advantage of your bad decisions or if you can take advantage of theirs. Every class has a way to knock or pull people off so, I don’t think it’s a big deal but I do believe the Skyhammer should be the one to break the flooring and the walls open for people to take advantage of those rather than people breaking it themselves.

That will just turn the map into a competition of which team has a better suited person for knocking somebody out the skyhammer pit. It means that if maps are randomized that there will always be a tendency for teams to have heavy CC, making the map inherently bad for encouraging a fluid TPvP meta. We already have trebuchets and repair kits in Khylo; this was an unnecessary map that I believe could have had its development time put towards the other modes Anet has vaguely mentioned.
Nearly every match on this map is a blowout. That spells broken. This map relies too much on PvE mechanics, the super jumps, the breakaway flooring, the super canon, the underground passage ways….every map, except this one, has a single mechanic that can turn the tides….this map is a traffic jam.
It’s not skill to knock somebody off the map. Or to roll into a hole while fighting at points. Especially the rolling.
It’s a fun map for hotjoin where you can mess around with it, but it’s not FUN.
with more then half of the classes hardly having any stability whatsoever this map is indeed just bad design. go mid or enjoy cliffdiving.

Other maps are pretty much competitions for the secondary objectives as well so, I don’t see your point. Forest is like that, Temple is like that, BoK is like that.
Stealth classes can easily take out whoever is on the Hammer without them knowing. Backstab or pull them off. If a team focuses on the Hammer too much they risk losing the points and in that way it just balances out.
You can make the Skyhammer dodgeable and that won’t make it too overpowered. Make it dodgeable, make it the only way to break barriers and it becomes a game of who can better make use of the Hammer to take out enemies fast. Rather than who can pull enemies into hole from stealth or get a person to dodge into a hole by mistake.

When people use certain builds JUST to play this map and troll people, it’s not a good map. Guardians and Engis mainly.
Spirit watch comes second to this.

There’s a huge difference between Skyhammer and other objective maps, being that the hammer is always there, and cannot be destroyed. It’s almost a cap point of its own.
In Forest, when somebody kills Chieftan/Svanir, that battle is over, for the time being. In temple, when somebody successfully gets Tranquility, everybody moves on to the main objective. In Khylo, you have a treb that can be destroyed/repaired, which adds an element of interest in that you don’t know if the teams will actually try to use treb play or simply trade and then go back to capping.
Are the other maps perfect? No, and Conquest as a game design without these other objectives would still need a lot of work. However, they are significantly better than Skyhammer.
Skyhammer is fun.
Requires a different play style and strategy, but something many players are unwilling and/or uncomfortable changing.
The only exclusive skyhammer stream
I’d still recommend removing it from ranked matches, but I don’t hate it as much as I used to. I learned to focus on playing defensively and not to engage in any fight I have no chance of winning.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of fights that most builds just can’t engage in on skyhammer. There are relatively few builds that have even a distant chance of winning a platform fight vs. a guard/warrior.

Are you saying you don’t like the map because you roll into holes?
That’s not very skilled indeed.
I’d say it’s skill if you wouldn’t be knocked off and rolling into holes.
Positioning, stunbreaker, stability.. ever heard of that?
And also try to not roll into holes

Stability on a Mesmer? Thanks bro I’ll use that one boon I don’t have access to. Positioning varies, and I don’t see how stunbreaker is supposed to help.. at all.
The advice on trying not to roll into holes is laughable at best. The home points are so tight and confined, it’s almost impossible not to fall in a hole or get pushed off. Or let’s not forget Necro chain fear.
Another big problem with the way the map is made is points, and contesting them. I play GS Mesmer so I NEED to stay at range, that’s fine, I’ll go above the points so I don’t fall into the holes, w/e. But because of the lame mechanics in this game, I won’t be contesting the point. So if I’m going up against a bunker guardian, I might as well run away because I will not win easily, if at all.
Secondly, the map has massive imbalances depending on what class you play. Mesmer has no stability, and our in-combat mobility is actually bad for us in this map because fighting on home points is hard thanks to the stupid holes we have to avoid constantly.
Necro and sometimes Warrior with FM! can be OP. Bunker Guards with their stability have absolutely no problems. Ranger, Ele and Thief I don’t play enough, so I won’t comment on them as much.
Cannon has too much influence in that map. It needs to be dodgeable then the map will be fine.
Currently cannon control is king and will win you the game. Also hammer/lbow warrior, engy, guard, necro are pretty much the only viable professions in that map. Everything else is subpar.

I can’t agree to this. The builds with heavy position manipulation have the biggest advantage on the skyhammer platform, in much the same way there are certain builds that would have an advantage running an orb in spirit watch.
However, other places on the map where there’s a lot of room and multiple vertical levels, those favor a lot of ranged emphasis or mobility builds. There’s tons and tons of ways to shake a pursuer on skyhammer, and people who use them right have a great advantage over builds that are limited in mobility or range.
Priorities, what to do?

Ever consider that you might not be able to use the exact same build for every single map? Mesmers can absolutely excel at skyhammer. Just take the time to put more than 2 seconds of thought into how you play this game and you should do just fine.

Yeah but the problem is, that there is no counter to cannon and it forces you off the point so any teamfights over a point is won by the team holding the cannon. Engy in cannon room and warr covering him and helping mid is very nasty. And warr+engy or warr+neccy combo is pretty much unbeatable to get them off the cannon. Same with guard+condi profession there. The team that holds the cannon only has to worry about not getting backcapped and has no reason to push far, unless they’ve just wiped the enemy team.

Actually, I don’t even have to change my mesmer build for this map. I can usually avoid getting feared off and use invis or blink if I get random feared. I hardly ever get knocked off because that is all positioning. The biggest problem is when your team doesn’t care about skyhammer and you can take the guy on skyhammer, but the other team always has a decent roamer for backup. This map actually is great for my mesmer. Sometimes I prefer it because other people spec weaker specs just for the cc and it makes for an easier win.

Yeah, elementalists have the same number of abilities to knock people off as an engineer, necro or guardian. Whoever gets knocked out of the map by an Updraft should really stop playing this game, seriously.
Worst map ever is Capricorn btw (for the water of course)
