Skyhammer and Spirit Watch in SoloQ
These are definitely my most hated maps, particularly Skyhammer. It is a complete troll map and unbalanced in the extreme. I hear so much complaining every time before the match starts. But it seems like ANet takes the attitude ‘You really do like the map, you just don’t know it!’ I would bet if we had the option to pick a single map that we do not want to play on, 90+% would check off Skyhammer.
I just log out when Skyhammer pops. Anet already indicated approval that we could safely do this 4 times every 5 days. Problem solved!
Yeah they can be annoying, but what would you prefer, the same map for every match?
These additions are important imo because they correct some of the imbalances. For instance, if every map were simple three points it would be a pure bunkfest. The hammer eliminates the hardcore bunker if required it also gives strategic teamplay value over success based strictly on individual builds.
We all let off some steam after a particularly bad beating, you deal with it and move on, maybe even learn from it. I’ve learn to accept the maps themselves and I try to pick up on “best practices”. The more variance the better in regards to map types. I get bored without the differences, I hope to see more in the future.

Skyhammer actually promotes some worse bunker builds since you can focus more on self survivability and knockbacks and still be extremely useful.
Skyhammer is the only map where you can go full tank and 1-3 shot kill players no matter their build.
When skyhammer pops i login on my engineer specced just for this map and then i proceed to knock/pull people of the map constantly while getting hate whispers.
Doesn’t matter if they have stability or not, i can wait that out since i’m SO tanky and then get them of the map by using 2-3 skills….
Even if i win the vast majority of my skyhammer games(lose like 1 out of 10 maybe?) when i do this i don’t find it enjoyable at all and i highly doubt the players on the receiving end enjoy either.
IT’S NOT SKILLFUL AT ALL.
Having more game modes and variety would be good , having more maps like skyhammer is not the answer….
I’ll tell you what ANET doesn’t want to. These are their two most recent maps. They don’t want it to appear that the new maps are not any good. So, they keep them in solo queue and can honestly say that some people like them. “Some” is relative and as long as more than 1 person likes that map (the design team for example), what they say is true.
