The rival of gw2 before hot patch in terms of similar twitch viewer numbers : smite online

I remember, viewer numbers of Smite and Gw2 was similar before Gw2 expansion released few month ago, like gw2 had around 2000 viewers and smite had around 3000 viewers few months ago.

Now,
Smite viewer number (while streaming their world leagues) : 70523
gw2 viewer number : around 500~600

Why don’t we make just every stuffs free (except gem store), balanced, balance classes and all builds equally around pvp over pve? Rip all cele and bunker build to make game a lot healthier and funnier, and then make specific role of DPS, defender(not full bunker, must be killable in 1vs1), supporter(not full healer, must be kill-able in1vs1) Why we still don’t have in-game booster store that rewards mvp of the match who kills lot by allowing him buy per-match boost item like lol and also why we don’t have standard league of legends map but 70% insufficiently copied map like stronghold??

Since the game become healthier and easier to kill, we can add even voices like “multiple kill, mmmmmmonster killl, godlike” voices like that. For supporter-appraising voice idk, maybe like combat medic→ultra-medic and etc?

Atm with smites world championship there is ~60k twitch viewers, during dota ti5 (its like world championship) there were ~300k english viewers alone. There usually are at least that much or more russians, most likely a lot of chinese as well. So napkin math: dota had at least 600k+ viewers with 1kk+ being more likely in twitch alone. All in all the previous year event had been watched by over 2kk people and since it’s getting more popular by the year(judging by gathered prize pool by community) it is safe to assume there were even more people watching it this year. All that is peek viewers, with more than 20kk total in 2014(there is no data for 2015).

All that ofc pales in comparison with lol which had something like 8.5kk peek viewers and over 32kk in total in 2014(again no data for 2015).

Unlike gw2 these games are huge, idk about stats for lol(cuz I don’t care) and gw2(cuz there are non available) but last month dota had over 12kk unique players – that is WoW territory in numbers . No way gw2 can compare.

Also with the way game is being developed it is unlikely to ever change, let’s not delude ourselves anet doesn’t have know how or enough dedication to make this game viable for esport.

This game has not and never will be an esports game no matter how hard anet wishes it to be. Esports games fixes bugs almost instantaneously and roll out balance patches as soo as they’re needed. Anet neglects these things and kitten around too long to even make this a second string contender in the esports world.

i just checked smite on youtube, such an ugly game…and pve pve pve, go kill mobs, shop wth is that?!?! meh..Even with all the bad sides of gw2, it has potential to overgrow those games that came out of broken warcraft 3 map =)

You compare a pure competitive game to an “all-in” game that offers pve pvp and wvw. The only way they will ever make this game even remotely “esprtz” is if they completely separate PvP from PvE from WvW and make heavy changes depending on each mode.

That will not happen.

Also their views will never grow significantly even with those changes because let’s be serious…mmo esprtz…who the hell cares..it’s like saying diet hamburger….it just doesn’t have a future. U can’t compare mmos to dotas. They are completely different.

I get that Tarcis is usually the one making the builds for the warrior community, but you’re overestimating the effect he has as he leaves the community. He’s not taking the meta with him; the meta battle website that you consider was a problem is still going to be up. Players will find the meta themselves. There’s a large quantity of warrior players who are devoted to the class that are most likely more than willing to find a strong build, be it meta or not.

Other than meta, give me a few other reasons how he influenced 100+ people.

You didn’t give an example as to how he influenced 100+ people, rather, I gave one for you.

I’m arguing with a guy that believed meta battle was the bigger problem as it “attracted newer players to the meta” (paraphrasing) which in turn causes the community to become toxic (as opposed to the fact that ArenaNet is struggling to find balance in classes).

Tarcis is just one example. losing people from 2000+ level to 500~800 level means there is absolutely someone who had 100+ viewers who almost quit the game.
