So Anet, are we BETA testers?
from anet
LOL u mad?
You know it fits with colins face :P
They have said somewhere that despite the bugs/op’ness of some skills, they can’t really test in their private environment as we can (public).
More different builds coming up so yes, we’re kind of Beta-testers and they patch on the fly.
We are beta testers since the game released, just look at the leaderboards.
If you’re just realizing that pvp is still in beta I’ve got some bad news for you
WoW has PTR, balance is still kitten and bugged when they release the patches.
I’d rather get the changes immediately, I can handle the bugs for a few days/weeks.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
They should have the balance changes monthly
Already quit PvP. Just log in here and there to troll.
Nope I think this is it… I mean if they can’t foresee the balance nightmare that massively overtuning burning or giving mesmers half of their most powerful traits as baseline would be then I don’t think they really have enough of a grasp to get it to anything meaningfully beyond what we have now. It’s like there’s literally no checks and balances in even the design phase let alone the balancing phase.

Not sure what it’s been like since BC, but back then the PTC got things fixed. I remember a fairly big issue over a Warlock death coil change that ended up getting reverted because of PTC outcry.
A test server could potentially help GW2 immensely, but ArenaNet would actually have to utilize it properly and have a good dialogue with the players that are testing. Just getting the changes on paper for a lot of the stuff they implement would be enough to let them know it’s a horrible idea. I mean how many times have we got the week or so before patch preview and everyone is like “that’s a terrible idea”, but it’s too late to change it. The chances of ArenaNet listening and making timely changes though are astronomical though, so yeah we will never see a test server and if we did they would just give players the silent treatment like they currently do.
There was a test server of sorts, but it got shut down.
So in a way, yes we are the beta testers of the latest patch. And usually there is one follow up patch (not counting hotfixes) within a reasonable time frame. After that patch, whatever is broken, bugged, overpowered or underpowered is usually staying that way till the next balance patch.
Which is typically just around the cornor of 6 months from now.
They should have the balance changes monthly
10 more balance changes per year than they have now? I don’t think they’re capable of that.

From my investigation: Answer? Correct!

Are MMOs ever not in beta? Things are always being added, always being changed, and new bugs always being introduced and always being patched.

The difference is most MMO’s have test servers. It’s always a bad day when big balance patches come in with anet – of course, any MMO will have these problems, it’s magnified when no one tests it out.
