How do you count necros in your match before it starts?
Count the votes for skyhammer.
The similar goes for courtyard. You see, staff elementalists and necros are more likely to choose courtyard. Depends on the daily how much votes will it get. I allways pick it too because it’s faster, and refreshing, since every other map has the same strategy.
skyhammer and courtyard shouldn’t be in the unranked rotation.
courtyard 9/10 times will end with one team spawn camping the other,
why do people vote for that? its so dam boring.
It’s been popular they just managed it wrong as expected we deserve more TDM maps and it’s own queue. I just wish they could burn Foefire to the ground.

The problem is that Skyhammer and similar maps are centered around toys and objects. Less on captures and even less on pvp. As such, it can be quite refreshing to have to rely solely on your skills and your team for winning a match instead of sneaking to points or killing the lord, getting BLUE balls or using the kitten hammer.
As for Courtyard, the only problem it has is mentioned here – camping the spawnpoint which could be adjusted by Anet, if there wasn’t the season for Gemstore updates the whole year
It’s the best to 500-0 a premade – that has voted for courtyard – with a pug and then tell them to never vote for that hell-hole of a map again.
If i have to choose between spirit watch, skyhammer and courtyard ofc i ll pick last one. Why? Personally after playing for 4-5 months i became simply tired of all “toys” on the map and people losing head over them. Looking how people fight over orb, or skyhammer just to spam skill 1 which is easly dodgeable really makes me want to click Courtyard to change atmosphere. Ofc for some people it is still part of “tactic”, i respect it but lastly those things ruins gameplay and teamwork there for me. (like a guy shooting an empty point from trebuchate)
But i agree with ^. Camping and map design is pretty bad there. Usually it ends 500 – 0. I had maybe 2 matches with ended up with pretty balanced score. Idea of map isn’t bad (without toys, points) , just design is.
oftentimes courtyard will begin with a mass of dps. 1-2 people downed on both sides. one side gets a finish/kill → rally rest of that team (ie now its 5 v 4 or better) → wipe remaining 4 → spawn camp as other team trickles members back to the fray.
lots of solutions out there
*do battles in rounds best of 3 or so
*hold off spawns until full team is dead
*prevent rally from kills
Most of these wellnecros you see were attracted to pvp because it’s, more or less, their WvW zerg build being only torelable one in meta and rather easy to perform okay. No wonder they like Courtyard, since it’s similar to zerg/5 man roams.
Condition Necromancers don’t like Courtyard at all. Unless there’s at least one EBond Ranger and no shoutbows on the other side.

i vote for coutyard all the time has a ranger/mesmer/thief
only once in this month we spawn camped the other and only once i was spawn camped. i played more than 15 games on that map this month

If I’m in teamspeak I will always pick courtyard or skyhammer for the lolz because teamspeak in these maps multiplies the win factor by such a huge amount.

Necromancers are awful on sky hammer. Theifs sneak up to the hammer with invisibility, then activate their fear == dead necromancer.
Rangers are the ones who love sky hammer and courtyard. They got ranged knock backs for sky hammer, and aren’t forced onto points for courtyard (and get to play people who are mostly specced to fight on points).
it is not getting more popular, reason why it gets picked more is because there are more premades now and it is easier for them to win on that map

So last night I fought a full five man (must of been a premade cause its not possible otherwise) of Mesmers in courtyard.
I have to say I lol’d, actually I am not complaining, we were not a full team ourselves 4+1 and we were a balanced team.
This post caught my eye because it made me think of that group of mesmers in courtyard, Can you imagine, that there were 15 phantasms running around? It was chaos, in true mesmer fashion.
It turned out to be a good challenge as, the match was tied for a long time but at the end they got the drop on us and pulled off downing a couple right before the timer popped. 275/225.
As for popularity of courtyard, I can say that I have started playing unranked just for the rotation, only having four maps can get stale. Need the variety.
