Despite all this, rangers are still in a pretty bad place overall for competitive play. To answer your question more directly, with the longbow projectile range and velocity increases rolling to baseline it’s not likely their face roll potential will be changing any time soon. This is in terms of pug queues.

Or not be nearly hard-countered by reflects.

Or not die to any condition build unless your running either 6 in WS or 6 in NM (which youl only be able to chose ONE of post patch)
Or not rely on extremely long cooldown skills to reliably survive burst since you sacrifice 10 traits points to maximinze a weapon that should be more than kitten tier as a base.
Rangers, like turret Engis, aren’t really picked competitively but they ruin the casual PvP experience! Isn’t that the only thing that matters! Golly gee willikers Ranger daily day is the worst! How much longer must I endure the 1800 range pew pew pew! How much longer must I endure the overpowdered immob stacking elite that roots you in place until the end of time! Nerf plz! Nerf all classes until only Warrior and Elementalist remain!

Rangers are good in 1v1 but weak in 1vX.
But so are many other professions and builds.
If they faceroll from afar they are glassy (at least most of em) and will die just as fast as they kill.
If they got massive conditions.. you might be in trouble actually..
However not so much if they are using trapper build.
I only find power rangers hard if its a rigged duel in an area with too much ground to cover and they start maxrange. Thats no big deal though, just like comparing a thief getting the jump on you while not being prepared, its their thing, its their area of strength.
Condition is a whole different story unless its a trapperbuild (which is incredibly weak to cc and will get worse.)

I think why rangers get all this hate is that because ppl arent really used to fight opponents ranged anywhere other than pvp. I must admit, i main a ranger in pve and im pvp, no shame at all. Power lb+gs build is…its easy to handle, yes you be effective when you know that you cant fight on point, learn to position your self so that opponents cant get easily to you. Basically, its but more than spamming 2 and 4 on cooldown. Because all you have to negate enemy burst is 1 signet on very long cooldown… The condi build on other hand can fight on points but has its downsides as well, i bet most of ranger hate comes from other zerker builds(except medi guard) because ranger can just melt those so well, and is strong in 1v1 situations…sorry for trying to be constructive. And my language, im not a native english speaker.

Hot join itself is disaster, and any build will work, especially the Meta ones.
Tell you a secret, condition engi annihilate most hot joiners way more than LB does.
I seriously can’t think of any situation where LB ranger will do good in Rank arena.

PowerRangers are only a “problem” in random beginner-matches, in coordinated group play, they aren’t often played, because they have several big disadvantages compared to other DD’s:
- Very easily countered by reflect or stuff like that
- Offer only very little teamsupport/utility (nowhere near what for example a thief offers, or even a S/F-Ele, Powernecro or any other “glasscannons”)
- In coordinated groups, you almost always have classes like thiefs, medi-guards etc. that can easily jump to where they are and burst them down.
- Ppl that know how to play actually know how to LoS.
People hate ranger because they’ve always fit under the category of “easy and effective.”
That’s why I am baffled by the fact that we see almost no outrage about the Shoutbow War, not necessarily Overpowered in the current Meta (but surely at least close to it) but it severely hinders the viability of full-condition-builds: The only build, that by itself makes the meta much more narrow.

Yes, let’s have rangers and turret engis in competitive PvP, because that’s so much better than actually using your brain.
Also, elementalist is the class that is getting nerfs. Please, stop acting like they’re overbuffing it. You’re not crying about them not nerfing engi and you totally should, but hey as long as it’s you playing something that’s too strong, right?

I also think they should remove all obstacles from the arenas so people can’t hide and just openly shoot them. LB zerker ranger need a a slight nerf for the same reason turrets got nerfed. Its not op per say but to rewarding for the effort req to play. Reduce the range of the lb to 1300 and that would do wonders,

So does Warrior’s LB F1, 3 // Mediation Guardian // DD Ele because they’re all “easier to use” than LB ranger.
Let’s nerf these by:
Reduce the LB F1 range to 160. Cleansing Ire now has an ICD of 20
Reduce mediation default heal to 1k. Judgement Intervention CD becomes 80,
focus 5 CD becomes 80.
Signet of Restoration heal cut in half, Cleanse condition on regen has a ICD on 15.

Thats just lazy…. There simply are builds that are easier to play, but if there are enough counterplays available, just suck it up and deal with it appropriately.
In GW1, we had tons of builds (teamcomps rather) that were very easy to play and there were almost no real counters available and the good players sucked it up anyways and played the harder builds and won…. or not.
Isn’t it its own reward if you are able to win with sth. thats harder? Doesn’t that make you a better player? Why nerf everything you deem easier to play? where does it end? Yes, it’s a stupid argument to ask “if we nerf X cuz it’s easy, why not just nerf everything”, along the lines of ppl arguing against guy marriage, because it might lead to ppl marrying their houseplants…. But if you want to draw a line somewhere, I think Turret-engis where the right point to stop.
Really, if it’s so annoying to you to deal with PR’s, then build your team accordingly, or just have a counterbuild rdy you use when you see a ranger in the opposite team (it’s gonna be a PR, cuz other ranger-builds aren’t really viable).
At least w8 till the spezialisations arrive, it’s gonna change the whole meta anyways and it’s useless to nerf/buff anything before that that isn’t absolutely broken and PR’s clearly aren’t.
